Oh my God, you mentioned the transitional video!!! I honestly thought I had lost my mind when I couldn't find it anymore. Like, was seriously questioning my memory for several years, but I knew it once existed! That's too bad and really stupid about how KZfaq used to have that work. Also, great video!

That 6m is so mint it’s breathtaking. A big difference from some of the ratty looking ones available on the auction sites lately.

Wow, your insight where you show the cross section of the mouthpiece/neck is incredible. Never thought about the fact that, in addition to lengthening the instrument, you're altering the inside of the mouthpiece chamber. Love how detailed your videos are!

Gotta agree. 6m Horn is the best alto I've ever played.. Super nice with a brilhart mouthpiece too.

The RESO pads plus rolled create a great seal snd super reduce wear. Great horns. These also can tolerate minor leaks somehow.

Ah damn I wish I got to see the transitional video before it was deleted, I have a 1931 6M transitional with the art deco engraving and you only have to breathe through it to make a tone, they're really something special when setup correctly. Great video 👌

Man I love these overview videos. Would be really cool to see one on the Mark VII, maybe compared to a late VI. Those horns seem to be controversial, but I feel they’re well built and most people who play them sound great. There’s also rumors about the N and M body tubes that I think it’d be interesting to hear a repair man’s take on

My alto is a 250,XXX 6M, no micro tuner, swivel thumb rest. Apparently it was owned by a classical musician before me, if I remember correctly. I have tried many other horns, but keep coming back to the 6M and my New Wonder II tenor. Both have a very special sound.

Thank's for another great Conn video. I've got a 26M and 30M. My father, who was a professional musician, left me the tenor when he passed away and recently I bought the alto to go with it ( I play them but not professionally). My father had bought the Conn after his MKVI was stolen on a gig which, recalling his knowledge and standards, says a lot for the Conn. My horns are the same year, according to serial numbers, 1932 but while the alto doesn't have the alternate E♭ tenor does and which my father wedged closed with a piece of cork under the cage. If you could share some more info on this deleted key that would be nice.

Thanks Matt, great video again. I’m an info kinda guy and I just love the technical knowledge you offer for free, so kind. I have a transitional 6m from 1933 but it has the New York neck. Seal seems good and it plays great, but I’m still trying to find the right mouthpiece. I play funk, so have tried a few brighter pieces but I have heard Meyer suggested before along with Brilhart. Do you have an opinion? I know we are all different. Cheers 🎷

If a slot of one of the set screws is fully destroyed, do you have to drill them out? Do they make screw extractors that small to take em out? Thank you for putting out this video 🙏

Hey Matt, I have a 1934 6m that I took on as a project and overhauled. It played beautifully for the first year but now it won't hold a straight pitch. The body that I have has damage where the neck connects to the horn. It looks like someone has rung jt with a wrench in the past. How can i fix this?

I have a conn saxophone it looks like it's old as hell needs repairs bad pads everything else I'm going to have to look at it and hopefully I can get back to you to let you know what model it is plus it is real heavy this thing will break your neck so I'll get back to you next time thanks

Once the neck is fixed up, would it need to be re-fixed again often, or is it good (given a reasonably careful owner) for 5-10(+?) years?
@StohrerMusic
@StohrerMusic 2 жыл бұрын
I think they should last decades if properly fit and kept clean, with perhaps minor touch ups at each overhaul being enough to keep it in shape for the rest of its life.

Does this saxophone fall under the list of vintage horns that favour larger chamber pieces or would any mouthpiece be good. I just seen professor Wallace use one of these with a selmer concept and I've never seen anything like it
@StohrerMusic
@StohrerMusic 2 жыл бұрын
Due to the microtuner, these can be more mouthpiece friendly than most horns, modern or vintage.

would you also recommend some of the slightly post war 6m altos for the same quality instrument? im looking at one from 1948 (still has rounded tone holes) and wondering if these ones are as desirable as the ones you're referring to
@StohrerMusic

Not as desirable or sought after but good instruments that can sometimes be had for a good price. Don't pay "pre war prices" for one though.
