You can dress the string (stretch it with a brass rod or roller) to reduce most of that retuning time.

Many years ago, a lower string on a 1940 Baldwin grand snapped during a worship service-thankfully no one was injured when it flew out into the area in front of the sanctuary.

I’ve actually seen that happen during a church service. I was playing bass guitar and suddenly a string came flying out of the piano.

That’s neat! I noticed at one point the fact that some strings loop around to become two. The lower strings tend to be only one, though? Have you ever fixed a broken lower string like that?
