great video! 3:43 humbly emphasize to clean ALL rust from mating surfaces of the rotor - whether installing a new or reinstall of old rotor. Slight amount of rust will create a condition of braking "wobble" at highway speeds that only seems like it's a warped rotor. Found this the hard way after having right front rotor turned a few times - then installed new rotor only to have problem re-surface. I used my angle die grinder with scotchbrite pads, then small fine sandpaper for area hard to reach lug bolts. Solved a great mystery and now 30k miles later perfect brake performance... surfaces need to be perfectly clean like surgical steel. also coat those surfaces lightly with anti-seize and minimal prep next time .

Thanks a ton for making these vids! I've been linking some of your videos on Tacomaworld for people looking for tutorials! Quick question: how necessary is a brake bleed after this? What happens when the brake fluid reservoir is above the max line? Would the brake fluid just go back and fill the brake pistons that were compressed?
@KFloTacoma
@KFloTacoma 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing my content brother! I appreciate that. To answer your questions: brake bleeding just works out well in terms of timing since all the bleeders valves are already exposed when doing this. Although, It's not really a necessity if you've done it right before hand - you're not breaking open the system so it should be ok. Brake bleeding should be done if the brakes feel squishy, fluid looks really dirty, or if you're in a high humidity climate since brake fluid does absorb water over time (I bleed mine every 2 years). If theres too much brake fluid in the reservoir after you're done you can address that in one of two ways: use a turkey baster to suck out the excess from the reservoir or bleed out the brake fluid at any of the calipers until the fluid is down to proper levels.

Thanks for the video. I have a 2008 Taco 6 cylinder 4x4 and 2002 Taco TWD in my household. Can you recommend a "disk lateral run out gauge and disk thickness gauge?" Can we get a video on hub cleanliness and run out for us folks that deal with snow and road salt. Thank you.
@KFloTacoma
@KFloTacoma 4 жыл бұрын
The disk thickness gauge is just a regular caliper and a lateral run out can be achieved with a flatness gauge block with some feeler gauges. I'll add that video to the list, thank you for the suggestions.

@KFloTacoma
@KFloTacoma 3 жыл бұрын
That's rough bro. I would recommend spraying all these parts with PB blaster the night before and letting it all soak. Worst comes to worse, you can always torch these things - that will definitely help break these loose.

@@KFloTacoma I ended up just replacing the calipers. I read that some people grease those pins each time they rotate tires. I guess that's what I'll try since I live in the snow and road salt mountains of Pennsylvania.

I watched your video again because those Power Stop K137 with rotors have already finished at 43,000 miles. My 09 Taco with 203,000 miles garage kept getting a lot of rust on the calipers on the inside. Also uneven wear not sure maybe the caliper is sticking.
@KFloTacoma
@KFloTacoma Ай бұрын
Sounds like your caliper is doing just that. The piston seals may be seized and will need a rebuild. Brake dust does rust, even indoors or not. I still am using the powerstops even with my 35" tires and camper - still going strong. I did replace my front calipers though

Great vid, do you have to bleed brakes when done? Or just add some fluid to container and it should be good?
@KFloTacoma
@KFloTacoma 4 жыл бұрын
Usually new brake pads mean that the fluid will be higher since the pistons will be pushed in more. Bleeding the brakes is really up to you. I only bleed brakes if the fluid gets too dirty or the brakes feel squishy
