Replace Broken Wheel Stud Lug on Honda Acura w/o Removing Axle - Easy Way (Acura TSX)

How to replace a broken or stripped wheel stud/ lug stud on your Honda or Acura. This was filmed on an Acura TSX, but since most Acura’s and Honda’s are built similar it should be the same process. This workaround does not require removing the axle which is labor-intensive and cost-prohibitive.

Just did it on our 2013 Honda CRV. My neighbor is a retired machinist/handyman with good tools, and we did it in 30 min. The hub is sufficiently thick to take a bit of grinding. Once the stud was inserted, I simply hammered it close to the end, then we pulled it in place with the nut and a few thick washers. Good video, much obliged!

Well, I couldn’t believe they wanted that kind of money to replace one stud. Then I did like you, I got all new wheel studs & lug nuts. I figured 20 minutes & it would be done!! Boy,was I wrong!!!! My son had actually going to pay to have it done, but I know BEST!!LOL) So I got it up, took off the wheel, disc brake assembly. I watch videos on how to it & tried to band the STUDD out! NO, wasn’t happening. Also thought that I could cut some off the dust shield. NO that wasn’t happening. But I got to thinking that I just had the brakes done. So it wasn’t my fault. So I wrote to corporate & told them that it had to have happened with the air gun that removes the lug nuts. I figured the tech didn’t readjust the settings on the struts. Not only that, but cover for the struts (factory) were never returned or put back on. ALSO, the driver side struts, the nuts weren’t even finger tight. Well the once smug manager was all of a sudden almost down on his knees apologizing like a 5 year old. They said they go through it and replace the wheel stud and make sure all was tight. The recommends replacing the hub assembly when replacing wheel studs. HOWEVER, since it was on THEIR dime, not mine, they replaced the bearing, not the hub. So I’m assuming that would be all you have to change in order to replace your studds. So I would try that first before all the other I tried that didn’t work. A torque wrench would be good to have. Good luck!!!!!!!

Novice and 1st time doing anything like this! I have done brake jobs and that is about it! I did it with on 2 wheel stud lugs(Across from each other)and I used a Makita Osculating Multi-Tool. It took a while to get through the lug studs. Ran into a problem getting the lug studs out. I realized they are tapered and I needed to shave the sides down on the back to get them out. I then had a problem getting the new ones in. You MUST have an open lug nut to bring in the new lug studs. The correct size is M12-1.50!!! O'Reilly's had a good laugh and said it is almost impossible to do it without it. Also the bolt gets very hot when holding it and trying cut the side of it. I tried using a C-Clamp but it kept moving on me. Some advice on how to cut the bolt would be helpful. I am pretty sure it is unsafe to use an osculating tool 0.25 inches away from your finger. But 3-4 hours in I just wanted to get it DONE. Very helpful video and saved a bunch of money on my teenagers 2011 Acura TSX with 185K miles on it.

Followed the directions to a T. Everything worked perfect, except, my stud turned in the hub once I pulled it tight with a lug nut. I removed it, trimmed a new one down to a flat head so it slips thru the channel grooved with the grinder, and used JB weld when I pulled the new stud thru the hub. Let it set overnight and it didn't spin when I installed the wheel and torqued it.

I took a different approach on my 2017 civic. Tap the broken stud loose with hammer and use a cut off wheel in front and behind the hub to get it out. Take your new stud and cut the head off the back, drill a hole through the center to 17/64 and then tap it for a short 5/16 bolt. Tap the new stud in from the front (you may have to shave a bit off from the diameter first) then cover the 5/16 bolt with locktite and put a 1/2 inch lock washer on and install from the back side of the hub. So far it’s holding up just fine when torquing the lug nuts to the recommended 80 ft/lbs

@@Itsme83. Thank you for your response. Today I tried to replace but when I tried to fixed it myself. As soon as I loosened the nut of clippers the break fluid started leaking. I stoped going further and tighten back the nut and let it be as it is else I get myself in more trouble. So I think I’ve to rely on some professional now.

This poor guy lmao. He's confident in himself but if you do this for a living you'll know by his terminology he has no idea wtf he's doing. He got it done, but barely and only by brute force. He "tapered" his wheel hub to help get the stud in and out, lmao in other words he beat the hell out of it and dent it in. Fellas so innocent he dont even know hes doing anything wrong. Would not recommend this channel or video.

The hell you talking about? You do not have to replace the damn axle if you remove it. smh What you probably WILL have to replace, if you do this job correctly, is the wheel bearing, because removing the hub, most of the time destroys/removes the bearing and bearing race. Anybody reading this, unless you're driving a old beater/farm vehicle/etc, do NOT do this hackish bull**it. Do it correctly.
