Preventative maintenance is exactly what it means. Preventing if possible any future issues that can be controlled by proper maintenance and upkeep of your appliances. It's a simple job that I can save you from hundreds in damages.

Awesome Sam. I changed the hoses to my washing machine last year in my house. I used the braided no burst hoses. A bit expensive but worth it. God bless.

You are right ideally the braided supply line is best. I've been using them on toilets, faucets, dishwashers... unfortunately sometimes even when explaining to homeowners the difference they usually opt for the cheaper option. Great job on doing your own preventative maintenance Harry! 👍

ALWAYS DOUBLE TRIPLE CHECK HOT & COLD SUPPLY. ! Recently discovered in home i purchased. (manufactured) red pipe said HOT the water supply line BLUE said (cold) that was NOT the case. Best use hand( using caution) or digital temp reader if your HW tank is set high or have sensitive skin. I used a 5 gallon bucket and unhook them from the washer and I'm the washer and let them run into the tub and immediately I could tell the hot was on the cold side. They were hooked to the washer correctly but the manufacturer and you facturer had made a mistake a mistake at that particular Junction.

How often do I need to replace them? Mine have been in for 12 years, but they look in perfect shape.

Some have a 5 or 10 year warranty (metal braid). I've also read one commenter say they replace all supply lines every three years just in case.

my hot water hose is stuck (calcified) to the washer. It sucks.

I just had the same problem. I ended up using a hacksaw to cut through on one side of the threaded part. I was able to pull it back a bit and spray in some WD-40 penetrant. The combination enabled me to finally get some movement!, after hours of trying to remove the dang thing without snapping the supply line! I want to know a way to prevent the rust and calcification.

Does that hot water hose also need the strainer net? My hot water hose is leaking- it kooks new so I think it might be missing the washer - had burst pipes last week so learned how to replace them

Generally if it’s leaking it is missing the rubber washer. In regards to the strainer usually it is installed on the hot side as the hot side corrodes faster especially in hard water conditions. With that said I have seen the washer strainer installed on both sides. The strainer protects the calcium rust deposits from clogging your valve. I’m doing a video soon on upgrading washer supply lines to braided stainless steel and will ensure to spend time explaining the importance of installing the washers. Thank you for watching!

@@MoreThanMaintenance thank you for your detailed response- I really appreciate it. I thought the water was coming from the washer hose but it's coming from where the water pipe connects to the hot water spigot - I tightened it as I can & used that white plumber tape but still has very slow leak

@@MoreThanMaintenanceI just replaced 20 year old rubber lines after reading a tip metal braid is better, both had a strainer but only the hot line had build up. It turned out the rubber was cracked, too, so I'm glad it was caught in time!
