Sometimes people mistake it for their washer leaking water but the most likely culprit is your washer water valve. In this video it is obvious there was a washer valve leak. we'll show you how to perform this water valve replacement.

Washing machine water valve replacement is easy for DIY people
Either way we like to replace both hoses and the washer shut off valves at the same time. You should change your washing machine hoses with new stainless steel hoses every 5 years especially if you see a washer hose dripping water, you need to repair that before it bursts.
Washer valve replacement repair
Sometimes when you change your washing machine hoses you'll discover that now you have a washer valve leak, because these washer shut off valves stay open all year round, then you just closed it and re-opened it again, which awoke the sleeping giant that is your dried out degenerated gasket inside the washer valve.
Shut off valve repair for your washing machine water supply
Sometimes you'll even find your washer valve stuck and you can't get it to open or close. As part of this shut off valve repair, it doe snot matter if you have a washing machine shut off valve stuck or you have washing machine valves, we still remove them the same way. If your washer water valve is soldered to the copper pipe coming out of the wall, we use a torch to melt the solder and pull the water shutoff valve off the pipe. Soon you will no longer have any washer water valve leaking, and no washer hose dripping water either.

Gotta use the Kroil penetrating oil. It just works. I was taught that shark bite type connectors were not approved for hidden installing such as behind drywall

They are allowed, many plumbers don't like them, and I do try to avoid using them behind a wall, but no choice in this case. That polybutylene piping will fail one day soon I am sure, it will fail before the Shark Bite does. In some cases it might be worth it to place an access panel on the drywall over your repair.

Even scarier than the Poly butylene pipe is the CPVC pipe which is actually very brittle and all you have to do is barely touch it in it cracks just look at our plumbing disaster video that we uploaded a couple of weeks ago where we showed that we were doing a repair on CPVC at our friends house and it cracked and we had to end up cutting into the wall in cementing in a repair pieces to get the system back up and running again but see PVC is an extremely dangerous and brittle pipe system, and plumbers all over Central Florida right now are making a fortune re-piping people’s houses

LOL I gotta work those music volume levels better. I am switching to Adobe Premiere soon, and will be working that out as well. You only have to replace polybutylene if you are re-piping the whole house. At the time we bought this part, there was no SharkBite fitting that connected Polybutylene on one side with a threaded FIP on the other side to screw onto the the bottom of the shut off valves, so we had to do a double connector.

You can buy transition couplings for PB to PEX. Would be much better than sharkbites in the wall. I'd pull out as much PB as possible if you can get underneath this wall. I wouldn't replace with PVC (or CPVC).

Couple things: when trying to repair a small leak in a polybutylene pipe, I created a much larger one down the line, by pulling and jostling it too much, so be careful about how you handing the PB that will be left in place. I ended up replacing all the polybutylene inside the walls with PEX. Also, as a DIY'er I have used SharkBites a lot because I've never been able to solder well. You do have to follow the instructions, especially regarding how far to insert the piping! And although they are removable, the really shouldn't be reused. They are code compliant in my former state for in the wall use.

Hey Jeff, thanks for the video! I have PB pipe on my old mobile home. I need to replace the water heater, and what they had done was crimped a adjustable copper water heater feed to the end of the pipe. Could I technically just crimp a new one on there to replace it, or is that just not up to code.. or? Or just buy the coupling to connect to pvc then to the copper feed..? Thanks brother!
@jeffostroff
@jeffostroff 3 жыл бұрын
Good question. You could use a SharkBite like I did here in this video to convert to copper. So if you look at that first adapter that I used, the one that plugs directly onto the Gray Polybutylene pipe, that adapter on the other end you can insert copper pipe now you're back to normal piping again and you can do whatever you want sweat on an adapter that will connect up to your flexible hose on the water heater. Plumbers for the most part don't like to use shark bites especially if they're going to be inside of a wall where you can't see them if they leak. So those are the two considerations you have to balance here if you want to do it correctly you may have to bring in a knowledgeable plumber who knows the best ways to connect up to the Poly butylene.

@@jeffostroff It's been a month... I would Really Appreciate your thoughts / ideas on this suggestion. It seems that this could turn a ~3+ hour valve replacement job into a 5 minute job. I've talked to a plumber & many big box employees about doing this and they are dismissive or act like I'm an annoying noob for going against the traditional, time tested set up (similar to what you ended up with). The only drawbacks I can think of is that the valves will not be as secure (against the washer box, so might wiggle a bit). Or, the regular open/closing of the valve handle/wheel might torque stress the copper pipe (behind the drywall) at solder joints... increasing the chance of a leak ? PS - Thanks for your great videos !
@jeffostroff
@jeffostroff 3 жыл бұрын
@@Dave--FkTheDeepstate Well I would like to see this done 1st to get an idea of exactly how it's supposed to work but just sticking a threaded adapter down into the Box how do you made it to the pipe? With most of the other washing machine boxes that I see they are embedded in the wall and the copper pipe inside the wall comes up and solders into the bottom of the valve. If you remove that valve and put something else in how then do you made it to the pipe in the wall? That's why I still think you would end up having a tear up the drywall.

Yes and shark bites unfortunately open up a whole different Pandora's box they can leak also however they are more reliable than the Poly butylene so you're basically trading one evil for a little bit lesser evil. Anytime I do shark bites I try to make sure they are outside the wall And if I can avoid using the mall tickets absolutely necessary like in this case there really was no other solution to convert Poly butylene to the copper.

@jeffostroff
@jeffostroff 3 жыл бұрын
Experts are divided about whether shark bites are reliable or not. I had not choice in this case, there is no other way to mate up to polybutylene pipe inside the wall. and the sharkbite is no more risky than the gray pipe itself. You can also place access panel on the wall where you installed a Sharkbite. I have used them only a few times and usually outside the wall for example when converting from Poly butylene pipes into copper so I can put a regular copper water shut off valve under the kitchen sink for example but there at least you can open cabinet and check on it to make sure there are no leaks. I would never put a sharkbite inside the wall. But I also use sharkbite caps all the time to temporarily cap off some of my copper pipes during remodeling that's OK because they're going to be removed and replaced with a real valve later.

The hot water washer hose will not come off. Tried to loosen and tighten the hose to hopefully get some movement but it wouldn’t budge. In doing so, the whole valve assembly moved about an inch to the left and right a few times. It occurred to me that I was bending the copper tube below and behind the drywall. Should I be worried? Fill time for the washing machine didn’t change. Should I be worried? Is the copper pipe much stronger than I give it credit for?
@jeffostroff
@jeffostroff 2 жыл бұрын
I doubt you have copper tubing behind the wall what you have is copper pipe and I doubt that you have bent it. if you could not get your hot water hose to come off it was probably corroded on really bad usually what people do then is they try to use a Dremel and slice through these screw on sleeve part of the hose where it screws onto the valve they make a couple of slices across it and then just take it apart piece by piece
