The problem isn’t when filmmakers use it of their own accord, it’s when accountants chime in with “We could have one free intern use this tool instead of paying all those greedy professional animators and VFX people!” And then comes the bidding limbo contest to see who can go the lowest.

That certainly possible and very likely with other uses of AI, such as image generation. But this specific tool feels more inevitable to the trade than anything. For one, motion capture tools are becoming more and more accessible seemingly everyday. There are probably numerous “technician” jobs from older projects that are no longer needed today. That’s just how it goes as technology improves and isn’t exclusive to AI. Another thing to consider is that I’d be willing to say most VFX people are eager for any tools that make rotoscoping more efficient. This tool seems to be heading to that direction. And, in these early stages, professionals are at advantage because they can fix the problems that these early tools create, such as all of the compositing that Ryan mentions in this video. I think Ryan’s closing thoughts speak for themselves and I for one share in his hope.

The background replacement issues stem from it needing data of areas that it fills in so having just a few frames of clear video before your character enters or even moving back and forth across a room apparently helps massively. Shots of a character walking through a corridor will always be hard as there is little room for the ML to see what is behind the character full stop.

All the professional 3D animators thought their jobs were gone but you still need to create animations that aren't direct copies of human movement and if you don't know the principles of animation then how can you fix things when they do go wrong or add unique movements from the base animations you receive from tools like this?

I can imagine this working better with just doing motion capture for CGI projects since you don't have to worry about blending a model into it's environment (which is the hardest part for the AI here). I always thought that such tech should be possible with things like Kinect and I'm surprised we don't see more of it.

What I love about this compared to other AI tools is that it doesn't take the power out of the creative's hands and it doesn't literally do all the work for the creator. It's not built around the idea of "Hey, want to be an animator but don't want to have to do any of that animating bullcrap?" It's clear that the people behind Wonder Studio care about the industry and aren't promoting a service that will be used as a grift that ultimately stiffs artists. This is what AI tools are supposed to be, tools that simplify a process that is otherwise prohibitively expensive or overly tedious . You still have to film. Your actor still has to do a decent job performing. You still have to put in the work to get good results. It still requires at least some discipline to get something worthwhile, and that's what separates it from other generative AI tools.

Also, while we can't put the genie back in the bottle, we can take steps to regulate it to ensure that it's implemented in ways that are ethical and not harmful to the livelihoods of creatives.

That's not really a fault of any tool. Different tools have different functions. Wonder Studio, as the name implies, is meant to be a multi-function tool. It's a compilation of multiple different types of AI and ML tools to go into a studio interface, allowing a user to have more control. If you're trying to compare that to individual generative AI tools and say that those tools remove power out of the creative's hands, that's not really a fair comparison. Because those tools are not meant to give you that same type of power. Those tools are meant for generation by nature, and that's it. A tool like Wonder Studio is not a tool per se, it's a collection of tools with a different nature. I'm not really sure what you're trying to compare this to, as again, it's just not really a fair comparison. Your statement "You still have to put in the work to get good results. It still requires at least some discipline to get something worthwhile, and that's what separates it from other generative AI tools." doesn't really make too much sense, since 1) this isn't a generative AI, and 2) it can apply to any tool just depending on your perspective. At the end of the day, you could take several different generative AI tools and combine them manually using hard work and creativity to achieve the same results. As an example, you could create a base character design using Midjourney. Then film your own footage of an actor doing something. Then combine that MJ character design with your footage using Runway Gen-1 to create a video of your actor in the design of your concept art. By combining three different steps together, you're doing what Wonder Studio does by its nature (combine steps of tracking, matchmove, animation, lighting, rendering and comp). Also your statement, "it doesn't take the power out of the creative's hands and it doesn't literally do all the work for the creator" - that's literally what this can and will do. Anyone can film footage, find an existing 3D asset, and just replace it into their scene with the click of a button. Sorry to barge in with this :) Just hope this helps you see all these tools in a different light.

I understand that this cool in a technical way. But I still feel that this big AI steps is the first ever killer for artists… and some ppl say that you still need artists to do these changes. But I think it will be more like persons who just learn to do click and drag without even be interested in movies or animations. Even creating the renders will be done by AI so no need anymore for Artists…

I do believe that AI will be able to do all these things. From writing the script to creating the characters and rendering. However it's still drawing from a limited resource and if people aren't creating fresh stories and content then I think it will be become more and more watered down and bland...a bit like the Marvel films. I can already spot AI generated thumbnails that people are now using for their KZfaq videos,.
@Dante02d12
@Dante02d12 Жыл бұрын
@@thebubblegummonsters640 There are unlimited ways to customize AI generation. People who don't dive in think it's just click&drag, like OP. It's not. In the case of image generation, there are LoRAs, that's something you can use to change the style of output, and even get very accurate details correctly. There are also many models which give very different results, so you have to juggle between them to find the right one for your job. Current tools also aren't perfect, so current AI artists have to fix their works, with inpainting or external tools like Photoshop. It's the exact same job as an artist, it's just much faster. Literally everything we hear about AI image generation was said about digital art twenty years ago. And yes, digital art did take over 90% of the industry. It's called evolution. Tools change, the job gets easier, more people get in the industry, competition gets extremely tight. In the end, there will be artists standing out, and artists lurking in the shadows. It will be hard for artists. But name one period where it _wasn't_ hard for them. In the whole Human History. I'll wait.

The part that’s most lacking currently is adding custom character. This review at least mentions it.. “there is some prep work needed” which is is an understatement. The private forum is filled with people who are really struggling with that process. Most reviews opt to primarily stick with pre loaded characters for a good reason. Until that’s fixed with proper auto rigging then it’s definitely not yet a one click solution.
