Very cool. I would love to see the brick fitted inside the console, personally. Might have also looked into reusing the original connector from the dead PSU rather than soldering to the board as well. I love that it's just a simple straight 12V

Debatable, sometimes the PSU forces the air to travel over hot components. Could be fixed by putting it back in with the connectors cut off I suppose.

Lol. To be honest, I left it all open mainly for artistic license but also planning some other hacks and just can't face going through all those screws again!

It's an interesting situation. From the design it looks like air is being funneled through the PSU by the main fan. But also the PSU has some heatsink metal and thermal blu tack ( I don't know what else to call it) on the outside pulling heat away from board components. I don't know whether on balance it's cooler or hotter!

So theoretically you can power Xbox with USB PD 3.1 using powerful step down converter and make it portable by powering from powerful power bank for 1-2 hours. I am intrigued. Does it worth it though

9 months later, still playing smooth? Coz I replaced my xbox series s psu with a andowol psu 200w that is 240v 20a. Whenever i do heavy games like fifa and gta or flight sim it shuts down but when streaming nothing happens

Think you might be over volting the Xbox. 200w is way to much and the original only puts out 163 watts.

Its also worth checking the power supply for failed capacitors, usually you can buy them for $1 apiece in a 10 pack or similar. If it works after you warm it up, but not when cold, then you have bad capacitors. Or if you can tell they have bulged or leaked. Sometimes I salvage capacitors from old equipment and do a check to see if they work. Then its up to you if you buy new or just keep using the ones that fixed it. Of course don't open the power supply if you don't know about the mains side capacitor discharge, it can easily give you a big shock. Of course you can test it for voltage or discharge it with a large resistor on a stick (it should have its own discharge resistor, but it can take a while).

That's great info. I need to learn a bit more about power supplies before heading in that direction. Have changed capacitors on a PC motherboard but I'm less scared of those than a PSU!

So what's the purpose of soldering the leads to the board. I mean could you tell us why you did what you did, other than just doing a video highlight? I like all these DIY videos you and other people do, but absolutely hate it when nothing is explained

Thanks for watching!. I'm soldering onto the board because I have other hacks planned. You could push spade connectors into the available socket instead. I'm experimenting with my format so the feedback is helpful for my next video. Appreciate it!

You can also use an adapter for Xbox360 to XboxOne or Xbox E. Then use an Xbox360 power supply you may have laying about or $5 at a yard sale

Sorry but i really need to say that this mod is very stupid,a 120W PSU on a System that has by default a 160W PSU....there's a reason the original is 160W and not 120W!

That's fair to say but I've not had any problems so far. Will have to see how it goes long term. There's always the option of spending more to get a more powerful PSU. Luckily the hack is plug n play! I guess you're not going to like what I do to this Xbox next!
