Replacement of instrument cluster bulbs in 2007 Ford Explorer .
Bulbs found on Amazon. Product description said BMW bulbs, however, if you get beige cap, 1.5 watt, 12 volt then the replacement bulb will work regardless of amazon product description details. Link follows.

*Thanks for the video brother! I have a 2010 Ford Explorer and I was able to replace the bulbs myself and the bulbs you linked worked perfectly. FYI, if you have a 2010 XLT you will not have that plug and hose to the vent and the socket that works for the bulbs is a 6mm.*

I recently purchased a 2010 Explorer XLT .. with 190k miles. I had to replace puddle light bulbs .. the control for the side mirrors needs to be changed and the radio light and radiator were all ghosted .. and now I need to change the instrument cluster bulbs .. so thank you for making this video .. you make it look easy

Thanks for this video showing how to replace a bulb in the instrument cluster. I followed your directions for my 2007 Explorer with the bulb I purchased from the dealer, and had no problem with the replacement. So easy to do myself.

No way! This was awesome 😎 You just saved me a lot of money. I bought the bulbs you recommended (still available 😮) which I could believe the link still works. Turned out that all the bulbs must have vibrated off the contact. A little twist of the bulb and I am back in business. Thanks again 😎

You totally saved me. I use my explorer as a winter truck and the speedometer lights went out so I was basically driving blind for a few months until I got used to it lol but today I finally changed them and they work great! Thanks for the video, also I didn’t realize how cramped it would be trying to take that last connector out from the gauge cluster.

Thanks for the vid from Detroit! I did mine last week 2006 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer and I did it in like 20 minutes. I got the same BMW bulbs and they worked great.

I am so glad you mentioned about the bulbs being BMW cause I have a whole bunch of from my last car. I froze the video when one of them was in your hand. And I was thinking "Would my BMW bulbs fit into these" and then you said it. I was like Alright! Thanks for the video.

Thanks for the video..very helpful.... Checked amazon for Ford part and they had 1 OEM bulb for $7.83 but no specs listed...not sure if same as the ones you found but looks exactly like it. ..Mercedes had the same bulb x4 for $8.02.

Will this work for a 2008 explorer? Same bulb size? Also are these the same bulbs used in the climate control panel?

These bulbs are B8.4D LED. Available from hundreds of non OEM sources. Just get the correct color. Amazon has 10 of them for less than $10. other websites have overseas @10 for $3.

Great except I have no backlights on the gauges now. Where are those bulbs located? Or are they the same ones that you can get to on the back of the cluster? I can see the gauge needles but can't see the writing on the gauge faces at all now at night. I could see the gauge writing before, but now I cannot, wondering if the bulbs may not be installed all the way...going to go take it apart again and see what happened.

Simple as a couple of bulbs not properly in place. Reseated them and now I can see how fast I'm going in the dark again HAHA!!! Great video by the way, very very simple job. Wish all vehicles were that easy. I have instrument cluster bulbs burned out in my 88 Ford Bronco 2 and my 87 Ford Ranger, but to get to them it requires removing most of the dash....no thanks.

I have a 2007 Mountaineer, the tachometer seems to be loose. Is there a way to repair it. Whenever the suv idles the bar falls way down past 0 rpms.

My instrument lighting is blue. Do I need to get blue light bulbs or is that the color of the needles and guages. Or do I get white bulbs which which will or should make everything have that nice blue like before?

Harvey Ibarra. I'm not certain. Best bet might be to pull the old bulb and check. My guess is the bulbs are standard and the tinting on the instrument cluster determines the color you see. Mine is a aqua greenish but bulbs were clear.

Are the warning indicator light bulbs the same as the others? I want to replace all of mine when I do it. Edit: All the bulbs are the same and I replaced all the bulbs yesterday. Great tutorial on changing these. I didn't even break a sweat and probably saved myself a couple hundred dollars doing it myself 😊

@@dougconley On my 2009, the warning indicator lights are tiny surface mounted devices, presumably LEDs. They are not serviceable as they are soldered to the circuit board. I took the cluster apart further, exposing the board so I could cover up the "Check Engine" light source with a tiny square of Gorilla Tape. The code has to do with catalyst efficiency- I don't care about that, and I don't like staring at that light all the time. Problem solved!

Does the neg battery lead need to be disconnected before unplugging the IC harness. I just need to change a bulb.

Martin Bacher Best practice and a schooled mechanic would probably tell you to disconnect battery. I didn't. It was fine.

MrlonelyPR Not sure. Just a mechanic on my own vehicles. Not versed on the larger product lines. Can't imagine it's too drastically different. Take your time. Look around. I'm sure it's easy enough to figure out.

You aren't messing with any wiring connected to the airbag.

From a technical stand point that's likely the prescribed practice. I didn't. No problems caused for me.

Interesting side note on that airbag light. I have had my Sport Trac V8 Limited 4x4 4.6L since new 250k miles ago. Don't know why, but, have learned that everytime the light appears, it was time for needing an imminent battery replacement. Like clockwork! What a great Truck! BTW... finally getting around to replacing that darn speedo light after yrs of bugging me. Thks KZfaqr for this video. A true gift that keeps on giving.
