I am in a new home that is only a year old. Recently my rotor sprinkers were failing to popup. Each head would just accumulate a large puddle of water round it. After a very frustrating amount of chasing nonexistent valve issues, I finally figured out that the issue was lack of pressure due to leaking at the head. I got to this video after being advised to try replacing the seals. However, when I went to remove the head, I noticed that it came rather easily unscrewed. This got me on to the idea of CHECKING THAT THE HEAD IS SCREWED IN TIGHTLY. I went around with a pair of channel locks and found that 6 out of 8 heads were way loose. Tightening them down solved the issue. No idea why it took a year for this to show up but glad I finally got it resolved. So my advice it to check that the head is screwed in reasonably tightly before moving to replacing seals.

good video. Problem I find is the new seals are like $4 retail and a new PGP is like $7..

Also, this video is a little misleading as shown. If anyone can simply reach down and unscrew the thing like demonstrated, let me know. I had to dig up the entire thing and get a pair of pliers on the cap to unscrew it. For seven or eight bucks, you can buy a brand new head. Definitely not worth the time and frustration of having these things break as you’re trying to fix them.

Yes not as easy to unscrew especially if they been in the ground for some time but these heads run 40 bucks. Or the Toro t7 does that we use. We have like 150 heads. Once one digs a few up its not that hard. Much better to fix than replace. I should look into that cheaper head tho 😏 good point though.

Awesome thank you. We have toros but same principles apply. I was able to fix a bunch of heads.

Where do you buy the riser seals? Where can we buy the adustment tool? Or is there some alternative tool that can be used?

I followed the instructions exactly and now I can't screw the lid back onto the body cup without it being a crooked uneven fit. Any suggestions?

@@Hunter_Industries Every time I work on the g series sprinkler heads, if I take the top cap off (not leaking), and try putting it back on, I always get a spray leak from the underside of the cap(where it screws on). I even tried a new riser seal and it did the same thing. I had to retry(off and on) several times and finally got it. I guess you have to hold your mouth open just right, a real pia. Home owner from Deep in the heart of Texas.

I replaced the seals and the head pops up and does not leak like before, but the head stays up and I have to hit it in order for it to retract. Can't see where I screwed up.

hey hunter, why don't you make the seal self cleaning by making the riser tapered.

Where do you buy the seals? Everyone just sells the whole sprinkler head.

What does That piece at the very bottom with all the little teeth almost looks like a gear actually do the one on my pop up sprinkler head is cracked and is able to come off

The cracked piece indicated the head is damaged and needs to be replaced.
