one thing I would suggest is to stop using soap bubbles from a spray bottle. It was designed to do the hairpins on a coil to soak the area then use the dauber on the wetted tubes. Leaks are missed all the time when you depend on a spray bottle. You'll also note the soap solution will last 6 times longer (using less) and not leave a big soapy mess. even micro leaks can be seen with the dauber when its held in place on the joint. You should only need 40-50 PSI to show a leak. When you find one, don't dump the nitrogen till you bubble test the other joints while its still pressurized. The final pressure test shouldn't require more than 150 PSI, unless your leak checking with your hearing. The brazing shield / blankets, are also made by Lynn Co, same guys that make the Kwool furnace refractory material. Its aluminum on one side and white refractory on the other. This makes it easy to shape around wires or pipes. I've had the black stuff pop a hole thru, although not the white stuff. I always spray down the area with a water bottle and have a fire extinguisher a few feet behind me just in case. A senior tech taught me this in the 90's while brazing on a Carrier dehumidifier and the insulation had some oil residue on it and it flashed over the whole unit in a second. The extinguisher was a CO2 and quickly put it out but it was scary how fast it flashed over the whole unit. I learned its never easy to find a fire extinguisher when you need one.

Those are such a pain. I wish they just had a notch in that panel that the coil sits on so you wouldn’t have to run the line set and drain up into that hole. Some of the newer ones do.

Hey Curtis, this isn't me armchair quarterbacking. I'd really like to know, or maybe if we have some professional pipefitters in here. I've noticed you generally put your swags up. Makes for an easy braze, but back when I was in school, we were told to put the swags down so the condensate rolled over the bell and down so it didn't sit on the braze. Have you ever heard of that, is it just not necessary, or is there anything in the codes that addresses it?

Hi we have a 920 sq ft double wide, built in 1999 with R22 HVAC unit. It’s an INTERTHERM. Vaporizer iced up and was wondering if we could just replace the top a/c unit on the furnace and the outside unit. Any feed back is appreciated.
