In this video Sean shows the entire process of replacing a Lippert Level-up hydraulic jack on the RV. The part arrived from Lippert within a week of being shipped and the installation process was under an hour. Although initially intimidating, it turned out to be an easy DIY RV maintenance project.

Good that Sean is handy and can do that stuff! Mark is handy and saves us so much by doing things himself. Great how to video. We checked into getting the snap pads but they don't yet have them for travel trailer scissor jacks!

It not only saves money, but time as well. Since we live in our RV, we don't like to put it in the shop.

We are having a “sticky” jack that doesn’t come down every time... thanks for the info. Ours is different brand but the general info is encouraging for my DIY guy👍🏻

Wow nice job Sean. I think for the 400 dollars I would seriously save that old jack and see what it takes to rebuild one your self or have it rebuilt and keep for a spare. And if u take it apart and damage it no money lost. Good way to learn. I do that some times.

I did not have to bleed the lines. I put the jack up and down a couple of times right after finishing and that was it. Thanks for watching!

Looks like a REAL good excuse to buy some tools! LOL Did you have to "bleed" the air out of the hydraulic system when you were done? Thanks for the video! Love the "how to" video's

Luckily, I did not. The new jack was full of fluid and the line was full. It seemed to be okay without bleeding the system.

@@ChickerysTravels the Lippert jacks are self bleeding, any air that happens to get into the lines will bubble out once they are operated a few times.

Sean, it's a shame that we are in a throw away society! Lippert wants to subtract maximum value from your pocket book instead of actually applying a simple fix for these systems. We just ordered a set of Snap Pads for our DRV. They will be here tomorrow! Thanks for sharing your repair!

Thanks, Joe. I wish they would make a rebuild kit for these jacks. I wouldn't mind doing the rebuild to save $$ and the environment. I hope you like the SnapPads as much as we do.

Alot of unknowns in your video..raising the jacks up before you disconnect the lines to keep air out of the system...marking the lines as to know which ones go where..using a torque wrench on the bolts and not saying what the bolts get torqued to....and checking the legs to extend and retract to make sure no leaks and any air in the system is purged out...

Did the entire system lose pressure when you disconnected the lines? Was there a check valve?

No the entire system didn't lose pressure and yes, there was a check valve.

My dad was a mechanic in the Air Force and taught me how to fix things from a young age.

I've never done this either (about to do the same replacement for the same reason). Are there risks of depressurizing the system or getting air in the lines? Is there a break in (i.e. cycling the jack several times)? The jack comes with zero instructions.

I had the same problem...no instructions. I did not see a break in period. I cycled the jacks a few times (while hooked to the truck) to purge any air out. Technically, it should just be that line that has any air, but I cycled them all.

Yes, I did not show it on the video. The funny thing is, I have to replace the same jack because I made a turn a little too sharp and damaged it. The only things hurt were the jack and my pride :(

@ChickerysTravels I have a cylinder to replace on my fifth wheel and found this video to be VERY helpful. Didn't even notice the background music, was too busy watching and listening to what you said. As to torque values and wrench sizes, I imagine those would be specific to your jack and installation. There are several different sizes of jacks depending of course on the weight of your RV. This was a DIY video, not a Disney + production. Give the guy a break!

@@Mark-nt7hr Thanks for that feedback! When I changed my jack, the only video on anything similar was a farmer who changed a hydraulic jack on some large piece of equipment. I listened to him talk about pigs for the first several minutes of the video but didn't complain because once he got to the point, it was very helpful.
