Couple of other things to consider: 1, it’s a good idea to plug the connector into a socket when soldering- that way, if the plastic melts slightly then resets, your pins will still line up. 2, a bit of blu tack works way better than the helping hand tool- I use that tool only when I use the loupe/ magnifying glass thingy. Put the blu tack on something heavy and heatproof- I use a chunky marble coaster. 3, if you do cut the wires too short for heat shrink, you can use liquid insulation tape. This is a black bitumen type substance that you paint on. Added bonus- it’s more flexible than heat shrink (and it waterproofs your connector to a degree). I usually take the pack apart, solder a new lead onto the tabs, and reassemble- but that’s not for the faint of heart or novice solderers. Great video as always!

I saw a recommendation for soldering an xt30 that said to always put the "mate" on the plug while heating so that the pins can't move. I think I'd do the same on this little BT2.0. It matters more for the male side maybe, but just seems safer in all situations to me. The only downside is that there is more metal connected that you have to heat up.
@Hyprmtr
@Hyprmtr 4 жыл бұрын
Martin Gates I do this same thing. It does take a bit more heat as the pins will heat soak but at least the plug is aligned and easy to connect and take apart.

thats how i do it, but i got a surprise the other day. I had taken off the rubber tips on my helping hands, aaaand i wanted a helping hand, so i clipped onto the xt60 no problem for black wire... and when i went to do the red it exploded! The alligator clip on the helping hands shorted the xt60. No damage or injury besides an exploded xt60 connector. I took off the rubber tips to work on something tiny earlier and neglected to replace them... be careful m'kay

I always put a mating connector on the connector I'm soldering for 2 reasons: 1. to keep pins in place even if the plastic deforms a little, and 2. if it already has wires then it easily indicates the polarity.
@prescottmajette5290
@prescottmajette5290 4 жыл бұрын
Its a good tip for the micro connectors, but youve got to have a screaming hot iron to do it with an xt60 because the other plug and wires suck the heat right out.
@GoatZilla
@GoatZilla 4 жыл бұрын
@@prescottmajette5290 What soldering iron do you use? I use a TS100; I usually do bump the temperatures up though for big stuff like XT60s. You can also only partially insert the mating connector so the heat bridge isn't quite so ... severe.

@@GoatZilla Its just some chinese knock off that takes hakko tips. Does up to 480C and 70w though, so its honestly pretty decent. Even with my biggest chisel tip and 480C, those xt60's can be a big pain.

Hello mister shutterbug! What do you think about 1s xt30? I'm thinking about trying that out on a mobula 7 I put in a uz80 frame for a 1s and 2s option. I wanted to direct solder the motors also but I cant get the motor plugs off I think they are glued on and dont want to break something prying on the board. Love your videos you are a wealth of knowledge
@MrShutterBug
@MrShutterBug 2 жыл бұрын
XT30 will work perfectly for 1S, but it is overkill and heavy for something like a Mob7. I think you would be better off with BT2.0 connector or the GNB27 connector. Even PH2.0 can work quite well if it is a good quality connector with solid pins (I find that nothing is as good as the original PH2.0 designed and manufactured by JST, not any of the rip-offs. You can get them from digikey.com). Hope that helps.

@MrShutterBug
@MrShutterBug 2 жыл бұрын
I don't know the size of your drone, but 650mah isn't that much bigger than 530mah, so it will probably work. How much flight time you get will depend on many factors including the size of the props and the weight of the drone.

Yes, you can replace the connector on the drone using a similar process. However, if you plugged in the battery backwards, then the flight controller and ESCs are probably damaged. Most circuit boards in this hobby do not have reverse polarity protection.

Mr ShutterBug the issue I have with ph2.0 is after a number of uses either the battery or pigtail cause the battery voltage to be drastically reduced. I swapped a pigtail and that temporarily fixed the issue now I’m trying deoxit contact cleaner. Someone suggested that to me to cure the issue. They said it’s just oxidation that adds resistance which makes the sagging worse. Just cleaned the connections and gonna charge it up soon so we will see.
