Today I replace the #dust shields for the front #brakes on my #Hyundai #Getz. They were extremely rusted and make a horrible scraping noise. Not much left to do before #MOT now!!

Did the exact same thing today on my Getz. Nice twist you did, when you cut it open instead of disassemble, saves med a trip to the mechanic

Man they should separate those two parts . Those things Rust easily and u have to take the hub every time . That’s crazy 😢

Mate please use the axl stabds next time then only the "krik" ( dutchword) jack its saver.

You’re right. I have some, but couldn’t work out how to replace the jack with the axle stand without placing the jack under a ‘non designated’ lifting point. I have since found that I can put the jack underneath where the control arms attach to the frame, keeping the jacking point free for the axle stand when the car is sufficiently lifted

I'm going to do the same repair on my Getz, both front dust shields are pretty bad. Though, i wont remove the whole knuckle from the car. But, how much did you cut off the shield, in order to pry it on?

Yeah definitely don’t remove the knuckle, was a nightmare 😂. I used an angle grinder, though I guess you could use some metal snips, jigsaw perhaps. I couldn’t open it wide enough with one cut though - I had to gradually remove more material/make the opening wider until I could pry it on without it feeling like it was bending too much. Ok, you cut the brake shield. How did you get it to stay in the proper position ?

If I recall correctly, the brake caliper mounting bolts go through the brake shield. The trick was to make the cut large enough to get the shield around the wheel hub, but small enough that the fit was still snug

Buy some axle stands if you want to do work like this! Car balanced on that shitty jack is a accident waiting to happen.... Nobody wants to see you get squashed on video! Also by removing the complete hub assembly you will have lost your camber adjustment

Have since bought myself some, but cheers for the tip :) tell me more about this camber adjustment. Could it be linked to a clunking noise I get when I brake, since doing the repairs?
