I visited Solihull with the ‘Land-Rover Experience’ tour. The Defender assembly line was fantastic, all very hands-on production methods. The guy doing door gaps had a variety of nylon wedges, with great enthusiasm he’d pop a wedge in the door gap and slam the door shut, as hard as he could to ‘tweak’ the gap! Also used the knee on the door and pull the top of the door frame in technique.

G'Day Mike. Mate I don't know if I have ever told you this before about my 130's suspension spring setup. I have used Kings Springs (a good brand here in Oz). I have the "Front KRFR-03HD" and the "Rear KLRR-05EHD" which is about as tough a spring as you can get for a 130. I then looked around for a HD helper set, didn't find any anywhere. A few months later on, I was scrapping a Holden Commodore VP that happen to have a set of HD Tow Springs installed and as I was mucking about with them it suddenly dawned on me that they were almost the same size as the 130 helper springs I had taken out of the 130. So I grabbed the old set of helpers and plonked them all down on the drive way next to each other and damned me if they weren't the same diameter BUT taller and thicker. Here was the interesting bit, I couldn't squash those springs down much more than 1cm when I lent my whole weight onto them (and at the time I was no shrinking violet I can tell you) where as the old helpers I could almost get to half compressed height. So now I have a set of HD Tow Springs for a Commodore VP fitted to my 130 as a set of HD Helper springs. They are a cheap and cheerful alternative to anything else. automotivesuperstore.com.au/king-springs-khrr-24

I’ve discovered the wheels on that 110 are rated only for a 90, and a full loaded 110 to factory load, the 110 exceeds the rating for the wheels. If he is overloading the 110, he could be in trouble with those wheel. I have them on mine, but don’t load it up that much

THE PEN OF TRUTH. I thought that it was lost forever. My accountant never believed me when I told him that I used one to do my book keeping, LOL. Can you remember those foot long bar heaters that stuck to the inside of the windscreen with two suction cups, all you needed to do was plug it into the lighter socket and they would heat up and demist your screen. What a bugger if you forgot that it was plugged in when you parked up, a flat battery in 20 minutes. ( 6 volts ) Do they still make something similar????? I can tell that winter is near Mike. You have long hair and the starts of a beard ( have you got a job on Christmas eve?). Best wishes, and stay safe Mike. From Yorkshire Rob.

Great video Mike! One of the many jobs left to do on my 110, now I've finished welding the bulkhead up. Also the heated screen in mine works well! I'd be screwed in winter with out it as the demisters as you know are, well... Crap
@BritannicaRestorations
@BritannicaRestorations 3 жыл бұрын
Depends on your heater - my setup works very well and chucks out a lot of heat but with an aftermarket heated screen being $1100 Canadian plus tax and shipping from the US, it is not a cheap option May be C$2000 by the time it is fitted! No glass shops in Canada carry any Defender screens as there were so few officially imported

@@BritannicaRestorations ahh well... I'm in South Yorkshire, England so its not so much of an issue for me. The heat output on mine is fine its the spread of air across the windscreen that's the problem, it has the wider vents fitted as standard (1992 200 tdi) so I am in the process of developing a vent to fit with no modification needed but spreads the air across the windscreen and hopefully helps demist the side windows too. Prototypes look promising so we shall see, keep up the good work 👍🏻

There are quite a few mods for Defender vents, but I have found the passenger side always demists better than the drivers which is needed more - this is due to the location of the blower to the vent I was looking into throttling back the passenger side a bit to balance it out

After watching your previous video on fitting the door seal I had already made the mistake of fitting a cheap aftermarket one on my 08 puma but after the video bought 2 genuine LR ones and they were great i also used dum dum as you said prev also in the corners in the door windows all this was too late though as the previous owner had not changed them in the 170000 miles it had done as the bulkhead had started to rot and not easy to fix as no vents so no corner fixes as the older models also when you get to the door locks they are'nt as easy to change the barrel quite a bit different if chance have a good look in the corners of the dash near the bolts for hidden corrosion I actually think Pumas are the worst they have ever done apart from comfort but wish I still had my ex BT 1996 Defender. Have fun and thanks for the videos

Y'see, this is why I stopped driving Defenders. Even when there's nothing really wrong with them, they're still like driving a barn. I had a go in one of those Kahn Defenders a few months ago and the interior was all quilted leather, LED lighting and deep-pile carpets but there was still daylight visible at the top of the door and water still dribbles onto the floor when you open the door in the rain. I'd have one for touring Africa but I'll stick to my Disco for daily-driving in the UK.

They have been fitted in the past, but you have to trim the edge down where the seal fits as there is a bend on the lip, and that reduces the area for the seal to clinch on

Bit controversial here but what the heck! I find 75% of owners do not work on their own trucks - they may tinker a bit, but with vehicle prices being a kings ransom here, they are willing to pay for someone else to do the 'difficult bits' - just in case they make a problem worse! This varies from owner to owner

I wonder how many have ended up in scrapyards because of an enthusiastic armature 'having a go'.
