This is a part 1 of a walk-through showing how to replace intake manifold on the Mercedes M272 V6 engine. Same procedure applies to the M273, which is a V8 version of the same engine.
Quick guide: • Replacing MB M272 Inta...
Full video, part 1: • Replacing MB M272 Inta...
Full video, part 2: • Replacing MB M272 Inta...
Part one is about removing bolts, cables and preparing things for intake manifold removal.
Part two is about disconnecting fuel system, removing the intake manifold, moving parts to the new manifold and putting things back together. I also show what the actual problem is inside the manifold and compare it to the new unit.
The new intake manifold is a OEM from Pierburg and I got it from Germany for about 500 euros. You also have to buy intake gaskets, they do not come with the manifold. But my unit had throttle valve actuator gasket with it, that I did not had to buy. Do not use old gaskets or there will be a vacuum leak.
Tools I used are standard tools, nothing special or brand specific tools are not required.
I personally do not have much experience of car engines but I know how to hold a wrench and a screwdriver so I thought this could be a fun and teaching DIY-project to do on my own. I also saved over 2000 euros instead of leaving my ride to a car repair shop for over a week.
The old manifold was driven about 170 000km when it started to show some early signs of problems and at about 200 000km it was complete wreck and parts started to fall off.
Project took me about two days, but I think I could have done it one day if I would have burned the midnight oil. But that would have taken all the fun out of this project. I also used about one extra day to do some investigation about the job before starting to work. This video shows the process and all tricks and tips I learned.
Be careful when working around open intake tracks, do not let anything get in to the engine or a engine failure could or will occur. A small amount of common dirt is ok, that will come out from tailpipe. But protect the valves!

Excellent video, i´m going to keep viewing it!, but let me tell you one thing: next time you will manipulate this fuel system, please, disconnect NEGATIVE cable of the battery. I did this work a couple of weeks ago to clean injectors and throttle body. Thank you for share!

affirca77 Great, I'm happy if this video helps people. And thanks for the feedback. You are absolutely right that when working with fuel system, disconnecting ground from battery is wise thing to do. I was thinking this also but as I did pre-work investigation, I found out that it is not required by MB's official repair guide so I did not disconnect it. But always have working fire distinquisher next to you when working with the fuel system :)

affirca77 Hi! Sorry, I do not have the manual but I was able to do a quick view on it at official MB dealer, before I decided to do the job by my self.

Janne, what happens if you take off both connectors from the ECU? I'd rather remove the ECU entirely to keep it clean and have the space. Thanks for the video!!!

No need to remove the fuel rails 'insitu', you point that out in the video, but just confirming it here too. Anyway, you used fishing line to secure the gasket, couldn't you use some contact cement or a couple dabs of silicone adhesive too?

+aa240sx Yes, I used fishing line so I do not compromise sealing. But I believe that a little bit of something heat-resistant material could also be used to hold the gasgets in place while instaling manifold. Fishing line seemed like a good idea and it worked, but there probably are some better ways to do it. This was something I did :)

I'm struggling to get access to one of the T27 screws that bolt on the the air circulation pump ( your's is already removed and isn't shown)

Yes, I had the pump removed before started to film this. But if I remember correctly all I had to use was a screwdriver and a ratchet with extension pole. No special tools was used.

Yeah I just removed the entire circulation pump with the bracket. I ordered a remanufactured intake manifold with an aluminum piece instead of that plastic crap!!! So the fish line worked well for getting the new gaskets on???

Now when you say it, I remembered that I also had the pump removed with the bracket. The fish line worked for me but afterwards I started to think if it would be easier to use cable ties. Or maybe just a little drop of superglue to the holes and poles which focuses the gasgets to the intake.

I agree, with proper tools it's much more fun to work with. But as I'm not a mechanic and my professional career is with computers, I do not need any expensive pro tools in my garage. My Mickey Mouse set does just fine every random task I need them to do 😁
