I've never heard anyone describe stock V70R headlights as "weak", if you had the true xenon bulbs that came from factory you technically had the highest lumen rated headlights ever produced in a factory vehicle. That being said they do start to seriously lose their power because of the nature of xenon bulbs over the course of their lifespan but they're only about $100 each to replace.

Looking great, I did a similar mod on an A4 in the past. Just a suggestion : you can have your low beam much higher than that at almost 90 degree because you're riding low. You won't blind incoming traffic because the cut off is pretty sharp. I rarely had to use my high beam.

The lights look Amazing! you will need to do a slight adjustment as they are pointing too low. especially the passenger side. park your car on a leveled surface 25ft away from a wall, and adjust the lights to be shinning at least 20-24 inches (knee height) from the ground. I can send you a photo of my adjustment i did on my 1998 Volvo V70 (scored jewel headlights from an 03 C70 as it is a much needed upgrade), as I have also just redid my headlights and added projectors to them.

I just did this with my 2007 Mercedes e550. Threw 8000k HIDs in. Huge improvement. Want to do this to my 850 Turbo too

I always hated the "sportier" headlights for s60 and v70n. These looks sooo much better. What would look even better is if you would get halolights around the projectors. ^^

Looks great man!!! Even though my headlights actually work quite well cuz my bulbs aren't crap and are adjusted properly. I'm still gonna have this done to mine. More for the looks since my R is becoming a summer only car and is light 24/7 here in AK in the summer

@Gregson, which bulb (Yeaky 4500K, Yeaky 5500K, Yeaky 6500K, 4300K, or 5000K) did you pick and why? Also, did you pick a shroud? And to be clear, did you send the whole original assembly to HIDprojectors.com and they returned it to you with the projector installed or did you open the assembly yourself and installed the projector yourself?

In Europe, xenon lights are required by law to be automatically load adjusted. That means that if you load the trunk / boot with some weight, the lights will automatically be adjusted down, so the lights will produce much less glare to oncoming vehicles. On my V60 / 2012 model, the xenon projectors also turn with the wheels on turns. The original xenon headlights are set up with bi-xenon lamps and an extra halogen high beam reflector with a 65W H9 lamp. I am very satisfied with the light output of those. Also the complete light assembly is very easy to remove. It is fastened with two plastic pins and one cable connector. Very service friendly. I don't know the rules about what is allowed in the us, by the way.

Do you have any error messages in your instrument cluster after the installation?

First thing I did with mine. Halogen headlights are still the best.... Just need to keep the lenses polished and buy decent bulbs.

Based on this video I ordered these in a DIY kit. I did have to add some shims to adjust the height of the lights so the adjusting screws would actually have some room to dial them in. It took me about 5 - 6 hours to get them done but the look great and are a significant upgrade from the factory reflectors. Thanks to HIDprojectors.com and especially Tom for being very responsive to any questions I had when installing them. I can provide pictures of the install and finished result if anyone is curious.

Does their website replace your glass lenses if you want them to?

I've always loved the V70R, and have enjoyed following this build. I recently acquired a C30 T5 with Polestar tune, and hope you can answer me this: when I shut off the engine, what am I hearing that hums for another 30s or so? Is there some little electric oil pump that runs for a bit to aid in turbo cooling, or is it something else? Thanks for sharing your Volvo love!

I can be wrong but HiD have no homologation --> are illegal. So in case of accident, you can get no money from insurance company.... In my Volvo C30 I've replaced Hid to PHILIPS H7 12V White Vision in refreshed lenses. Could you measure lux in you setup?

I have a regular v70 with the xenon headlights and i think they're pretty good. I think v70r has different headlights if you think they were so bad.

Damm Dude!! I just just done another night drive down to London in my 2004 Volvo S40. I have known about this for a while as I have had it four years b don't do much night driving. The headlamps on low beam are totally unfit for night time

Damn you need to raise it up more. It's angled too low to the road. Should be able to see straight ahead.

Have you measured the beam output before & after?

Interesting project, but not for me. I have a V70R and a P2 S80 with factory HID's. As others have said, the factory HID's on your car were dying and badly aimed. I have first hand experience with this because I had the same situation and was living with it with the S80, until I bought the cheapest V70R in America for $1500 which had perfect HID's. The back to back comparison sold me on regularly changing HID bulbs. I completely understand your desire to customize your car and it does look much different. Unfortunately I could never do the conversion due to the legalities of headlight illumination in my area, nor do I feel I need the extra light. All in all, a solid, innovative project and if you ever want to return the car to stock, it's probably pretty easy to do with another set of factory HID housings.

My headlights in my R are awesome...I use different bulbs from OE, though. I mean, I'm not saying this wasn't a worhty upgrade. I think projectors are the way to go with HID. Volvo's implementation was certainly weird. The high beams were really trash, but if everything is lined up properly, you don't really need them. Well, around here you don't.... I installed higher lumen HID bulbs in a 5000k color, so it fairly matches the OE shade. I then manually adjusted the aim of the reflectors. I rarely use my high beams in my R now. Just getting to the end of the video now. I wonder if your lights were adjusted right. The old shot, they were pointing VERY low.

You need to adjust those because your cut off is way too close.

No wonder the stock us headlights suck, the eu spec ones have an extra highbeam light where the us spec ones have the daytime running lights, the eu xenon/hid also raise the lowbeam but more to aid the separate highbeam light than to actually be the highbeam itself

It does seem to be a big difference in brightness, but your road comparison looks like your original headlights are out of adjustment aimed just a few feet in front of your car. Again at the garage doors. The old professor

I'M WILLING TO BET THE REASON FOR THE CRAP FIT OF THE RIGHT HEADLAMP IS BECAUSE YOUR PREVIOUS WRECK DAMAGE WASN'T REPAIRED QUITE CORRECTLY.

Why would you ruin the car like that and yes its brighter you have better performing bulbs and btw if its not stock whit HID lights the light will not go up and down and will shine to bright for the cars in the other lane

So you want to blind oncoming traffic? This is one category I’m not happy about.. lights that blind me when I’m driving. Sorry dude, I don’t like these…. The stock R lights are perfect as they are- use the brights if you have issues.

"The low beams are just good as the high beams were . . . " I don't know if these will blind your fellow traveler, sure hope not. Am so sick of being blinded by even factory lights from Toyota and a few others and screw all of these lifted trucks with even more ridiculous setups. Driving at night is awful anymore because of captured imploded stars guiding them.
