Replacing rotted wood trim around front door post

I'm no professional (clearly) and I'm not sure of the proper way of repairing this but I did it this way (my way lol). My whole intentions was to replace the old trim with new trim, and that was good enough for me. The wood that was under the trim may need to be replacement as well but I wasn't trying to do all that today (or by myself), I would seek a professional for that.

I need to replace mine too. But I'm planning on replacing them with PVC instead of wood.

I'm sure you've probably already resolved this or moved on but the easiest solution would probably have been to just replace with 6x6 posts and forget the casements altogether unless you just wanted the extra trim at the base. Granted new posts would have been way more expensive. Your end result looks good - You did a good job on the mitre cuts.

I used a miter saw to make the 45 degree cut.

I just used a hand saw to cut it off. The one you can see a little at the 0:25 mark in the video

Late lol, but a multi-tool would work to do cut off the old wood.

@@MarkSarpyJr, I hear ya. How can we get along without it now right? They are great little tools for a lot of projects. Definitely heavily used in my DIY activities.
