Replacing Service Valve King Valve HVAC Repair.

When dealing with a refrigerant leak locating it is the most tedious part. Usually it is the shrader valve but once in a while it is the service king valve. There are different items you can use to seal the leak but I chose on this one to replace it for those who are not comfortable with using those products.

hey sam great video! can the king valve be removed without evacuating the system? a tool similar to the schrader valve remover?

instead of changing out the entire valve ,would a new o ring replacement stop the leak ??

My condensor is 41 years old. The king valves look much like yours. What's puzzling me is that there are no Schrader valves in the service ports. I guess they're not absolutely necessary since the king valve is in a position that closes those ports. My king valves seem to be this item: COPELAND CORPORATION 510702202 2 3/8" SUCTION SERVICE VALVE

There’s units out there where you won’t see the schrader pin cause you have to open up the king valves to let the refrigerant in and out so most of the time they are not necessary even tho you are recommended to have a schrader pin in them

What's that humming in the background? Is the compressor running? Could you have tried a new O-ring in the service valve? It's just the O-rings that do the sealing. Nothing else in the service valve would have changed.

Need help! Just purchased HVAC services a referral. Heil AC unit installed new, didn’t work due to leak. I was told that the supplier does not take out and replace system. They needed to order a King Val. Can anyone confirm this information for me please. The installer does not take my calls. Please help me.

Your answer to the question from the HVAC student about pump down the system, in this case of removing the king valve even if you had pump down the system, it wouldn’t work because when you remove the valve how can you prevent the Freon from coming out of the compressor? Am I wrong ? If you remove the king valve there’s no stopping of Freon from bursting out of the compressor.

Just have a friend stick a finger over the open pipe when you get the old one off while you get the new one ready to weld back on.😁

I'm a HVAC student. I got a question. Before you change the king valve, you recover the refrigerant o pump down the system? Thanks in advance.

On this one I recovered the refrigerant which was R22 and put in the NU22B. You can not mix refrigerants therefore a proper recovery and vacuum is necessary. Pump down would be used if I wanted to store refrigerant in the compressor and was charging with the same refrigerant. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching. 🙂

What good does pump down do when you replace the king valve. Nothing is going to keep the refrigerate in the condenser.

Why do a lot of A/C company's want to replace the whole unit when the valves are leaking. A/C Company came and serviced the system and damaged the king valves. Now they want to replace the whole unit?

Answer is simple, they want to sell you on the idea, new/shiny is better however that's not always true. Profits is what's motivates.

@@WilliamVG what about when u purchase a new unit and the king Val does not work at least that what I was told? Should the entire system be switched out? I mean I bought a new system and if it parts are defective is t the unit defective; therefore they should have taken out and replaced?

I agree. It's a standard service valve, not a king valve. I BELIEVE a king valve system would have no Schrader cores. You isolate the system by closing ( Backseating?) the king valves. ONLY THEN would you take off the caps and attach your gauges. hmm, maybe this is not accurate....
