supposed to grind off the head of the pin, before trying to push it through, that's what broke your tool

It's one I got from Super Cheap. Works a treat. It has anchor points so you can secure your bike.

What tool was used to remove the front sprocket?

It was a 36mm Socket. The nut was only hand tight. The correct torque for the nut is 85Nm (93ft/lb) according to M r Google.
