As I stated in the video, this is not going to give you more or louder bass, just tighter, more accurate bass.
It really does help the JBL system sound a little better.
And the JBL needs all the help it can get.
How Toyota gets away with this as "Premium Audio" I'll never understand.

Would highly recommend using poly fill inside of the enclosure. This will help make the sub sound a lot louder and smooth out Bass note transitions....I did this with my JL W6V2 in a sealed .65 cubic inch box and it worked wonders

Ended doing this on my 2007 Limited with the exact same Kicker. I did bridge it +/+ and -/- for the 2 ohm setting as noted in the comments. Also, had to cut out some ribs on the inside of the box to gain some depth, cut out the attached grill, and mount the sub on the outside of the big trim panel that covers the entire back. Ended up working out basically the same as what you did more or less. Sounds good and no vibration!

How does it sound? Are you happy with the results and is it worth doing or do I need to replace the small amp too?

I think the directions you have are wiring the 4 ohm sun to 8 ohms and not 2 ohms which is the factory JBL system. 4 ohm dual voice coil subs wiring to 2 ohms require the two pos have a connection wire and the two neg having a connecting wire then they go to the amp.

i was able to fit a Skar 8" shallow mount in my '15 - the box volume was around .68 ft so i added foam blocks to get it down to the .35 ft recommended by Skar. this is just to say that other shallow-mount/high excursion subs will fit in these plastic boxes, with a little trim here and there (to note, i replaced the entire JBL crap w/ aftermarket amps and door mids too)

Nice Video! Your Kicker Model must be older, I used your link in the discription back in May to buy the same speaker from Crutchfild, it looks the same, except they added more "ass" to the backend! :} This speaker does Not fit the stock box anymore. I am curious, was your speaker depth less than 4 1/8" ? I would take down the link .

I just got my 2016 1794 and coming from a Denali with (not so great) Bose system Toyota really dropped the ball cause wow, it’s horrible… and that’s the “upgraded” jbl system. Can’t image the basic system! Probably 2 laptop speakers lol 😂

The magnet is most likely a neodymium...the woofer has an OEM Aurasound look to it.

It is a neo magnet. Not sure this would be an upgrade with the factory amp in place.

Great video! I have a 2020 Platinum Crewmax. The Kicker speaker you used in your vehicle is too deep to fit in mine. Do you have any other suggestions?

I used the Crutchfield link back in May and the same thing happened to me! It looks like the model changed for 2020. The model installed must have been manufactured in 2019. Its the only thing I can figure. Did you find one that worked?

So question, all you did was change out that sub and left everything else factory? I have a '18 Crew Max and don't wanna change out my head unit, due to many accessories are linked to it. By the way, I like how you're rock'n The Verve👍🙂

You wired what you said was a 4ohm DVC woofer in series, which yields a single 8ohm circuit. If it was a 2ohm DVC and you wired in series, it would yield a single 4ohm circuit - I can't read the back of the speaker well enough to know for sure, and am not sure what the OE impedance was originally.

Yes I was gonna say the same thing. He even put a diagram saying the correct way. Then wired a dual 2 ohm dual voice coil in series ( I paused the video) which would give your a final impedance of 4 ohms.

Yup. Just typed that and now looking to see who else. He wired a 4 ohm dvc to 8 ohms instead of 2 ohms. The factory JBL is 2 ohms.

Does the new Tundras come with 4 ohms system or still uses 2 ohms? My 08 limited is giving me so much issues. I replaced the head but it has too much power for the speakers. Hard to find new speakers at 2ohms.

Go buy some JBLs and have you bypass the amp if your tundra came with a JBL amp

Just replaced my factory 8" JBL sub with a 2 ohm shallow mount Pioneer 8" sub. Factory sounded better.

My 2020 tundras trd pro sound system sucks ass. It doesn’t get loud enough. When you first start driving, it’s fine, but as you get used to the volume level you want more. You keep turning it up and eventually you are at max volume and you want more but you can’t. I fucking hate it

I have a 20 platinum with the jbl. This has to be the worst audio in any new vehicle. Jbl scammed us all lol.

Yes, it's not a night/day difference, but for less than $100 it's worth it. And if you decide you upgrade the system later you can continue to use the 8" Kicker with a nw box/amp.

I think its just the Tundra, i have a 2016 tacoma limited with jbl premiun audio and it sounds badass, the bass hits hard and the sounds of the speaker is crisp. The same thing i’ll say for my wife 2016 camry xle v6 sounds beautiful, i just bought a 2021 tundra platinum and the bass is not there at all, its crap for a 50k plus truck.

I would recommend replacing that weak junk sub amp back there with a more powerful one. That sub is rated for 300w rms and it’s probably getting less than half of that.

run them in parallel to get 2ohm and your output should double

@@303MoTo just make sure the stock one was 2ohms, then use 2 jumpers +/+ and -/- and measure with a multimeter you should show 2 ohms on a 4ohm dual voicecoil sub

I have no clue about ohms and how this process works. I seen someone post this on Tundras.com: tnstatic.net/attachments/capture-_2018-09-14-14-59-47-jpg.183775/. Is the upper right picture the correct way to bridge it?

@@jamescaccavale9930 yes, upper right for a dual 4 to 2 ohm load. just make sure the factory sub is a 2ohm sub as a speaker with a lower rated impedance can cause your amp to go into protection mode and cut out

The JBL system in my 08 Camry ROCKED! I couldn't wait to get my Platinum Tundra with the "same" system. I thought the sub was blown until I got on the forums and learned this thing is just DUDD! Shame on Toyota for installing this system in a $60K truck! And shame on JBL for putting their name and good reputation on this POS. Toyota TRD on the outside, TuRD on the inside!

I had a 2008 Camry v6 with the JBL. It was amazing for stock. My 08 sequoia with JBL sounds great too - except now that it is 15 years old and has 212k miles, my door 6x9 literally have deteriorated. I just spent: 440 on a head unit and wire harnesses 300 for a sub box 350 fora kicker comp q 1100 watt 15” sub 340 for replacement door speakers/harness/wiring. Sequoia still runs like new. I’ve restored the parts that are wearing out: struts, shocks, window seals, speakers, driver head rest. Other than Routine maintenance that’s it.

Why not buy once cry once? If you are going to go through all hassle of tearing everything apart, why not just buy what you really want and install it the first time?.

At the time I was just trying to be simple and inexpensive. I've since replaced the entire audio package except for the head unit. Check my other videos out. Thanks for watching!
