Will the torque arms cause the drives to off set ? mIne are by about an inch. No vibration or tire wear.. weird
@koollee2 жыл бұрын
Mine is offset about an inch as well. Torque arm bushing (on the #2 / first drive axle) is squeezed out to 1 side.. I got vibration at the back of the truck, then it seems like the front (steering wheel starts shaking. Ive spent alot of money chasing the problem But Didnt do the torque arms. Did u solve your offset problem? If so, how did u do it?

The vibration that you felt would it feel like it's in the Driveline..? I've replace the U-joints but I still got vibration and cant tell where it's coming from. Just curious of what type of vibration did you feel I feel it in my steering wheel I feel it in my rear end and I've never changed them since I've got the truck and I put a half a million miles on it.. 2007 Freightliner Columbia

I'm having the same issue on my columbia 2010.. that truck has developed one bumpy ride.. I'm changing this suckers since one of them is pretty bad.. then will go from there since I already got a three axles alignment and new steers less than two weeks ago

When these go bad will it cause the truck to sway? I'm thinking this may be my problem?
@Rocksteady176 Жыл бұрын
Swaying is usually caused by bad bushings on low air leaf suspension or bad bushings on full leaf suspension.
@rcj9611 Жыл бұрын
@@Rocksteady176 so basically just change out all bushings on the leaf springs
@Rocksteady176 Жыл бұрын
@@rcj9611 Yes, as well as the torque rods. Leaf spring bushings can go back and forth and cause swaying if they are bad. The torque rod can as well but usually its only because the leaf spring bushings are bad. Best to replace the torque rods as well.
@rcj9611 Жыл бұрын
@Owner Op Life yeah I replaced torque rods months ago. Appreciate the feedback. I'll work on replacing leaf spring bushings
@Rocksteady176 Жыл бұрын
@@rcj9611 Replace leaf bushing. Meassure axle centering from brake drum inner liner to frame and make sure you have the same meassurement on both sides. If not then shim the torque rod at differential side until you havevit centered. Same with second rear axle. Then go in for a two rear axle thrust alignment to match up rear with front. You can use a string but the lasers are more accurate. Then you should be hood to go and no more sway.

That large hardware is not sensitive to torque. Every big rig mechanic I've met impacts 'em.
@mattmoschkau28316 жыл бұрын
Manufactures have different torque specs on suspension components and if you replace these bolts check the service bulletin from the part manufacture, especially if using aftermarket bolts from Hendrickson or Euclid as it will vary. These bolts are suppose to be replaced with torque arms but very few people ever do that. Factory spec is roughly 450 ft lbs with a max of 502 ft lbs.
@thereviewer41735 жыл бұрын
Matt Moschkau nospam3001 The torque spec will not be over 100 ft lbs on the torque arms. I just replaced my shocks and the bolts are about the same size. The torque was close to 100 ft lbs. You can figure out the torque spec on most nuts by using a torque wrench, but the opposite direction. If your torque wrench can’t be used both directions, you might want to get yourself one that does to figure out the torque spec the bolt has. I used 100 ft lbs for my shocks. I used 30 ft lbs on my airbags. My airbags actually came with a label indicating the torque spec based on the thickness of the bolt.

@justsayin51772 жыл бұрын
You should not be teaching this procedure. How did you disassemble and what size is the socket on the impact. Also which side of the torque bars do you disconnect first,? Stop teaching. Thx
@Rocksteady176 Жыл бұрын
Torque arm replacement requires proper shimming and alignment. I bet your axles are now offset. You have to meassure centering the axle first and then add or subtract shims so the axle is completly centered. Front and back axle should be perfectly centered and then a rear axle alignment is required to make sure your torsion is set correctly. People put videos up like this but only sjow you what they know. Anybody can replace the torque arms but there is a lot more to it then that. Otherwise, your tires will pay the price through damage and excessive wear. Not to mention, your pinion can very easily cost you thousands all because you did not center and align properly. This video should be taken down because it is misinformation!!!
