Ep#2 In this episode we replace the rotten, water damaged bedroom slide out floor for the second time, and install vinyl plank flooring. The RV should hopefully start to look like its coming together after this!!

I used some the flooring on my static trailer about fifteen years ago. I fit it and came back two weeks later and if was like a BMX park. I tore it out and glued down cork floor tiles. Gave them about three coats of varnish , one each time I left for home after the weekend. They were still there when I sold it three years ago. They were warm under foot, waterproof and quiet. Back then they didn't have moisture resistant MDF flooring. I still dont believe its moisture resistant and it burns faster than a bush fire.

Terrific job well done. I think I would have thrown that "chip board" floor away though. It's heavy, it rots if it gets wet, and the cockroaches seem to love it. I think they get "stoned" on the glue that holds it together. I know it's a bit expensive but a piece of 3ply marine ply with the waterproof coating and a 1/8 Aluminium sheet would have been my choice.

Floating floor in my RV worked out well. Just make sure it is secure around the edges so it doesnt gap out on you. When you move the camper the frame shifts around and has a tendency to pull the slats apart if they arent really really tight.. I just rebuilt a rotted out slide (including a whole new roof and subfloor throughout out the entire camper,) so I feel your pain. NOT FUN! haha

The 401 project got me to your site. On those floors, it's just a matter of time until they poop out on you. You'd be much better off with vinyl but the main thing is to seal it all really well and make sure the floors are dry when you close it up for a length of time. Any of that particle board you find should be removed or that mold will be back. I love your site and now realize why you do what you do. Family is everything and you are truly blessed.

Only problem I can see with the floating floor is whats underneath - if there is no membrane and it just sits on particle board? - think what happened to the original floor! water gets everywhere!

Hey man, new subscriber. If you didn't glue or epoxy the floating floor in high water areas, it will seperate eventually and then chain reaction across the floor. Clear gorilla glue in the seams, in front of entrance Doorway, sinks, toilets, and shower. I've installed a couple hundred of these floors since 2017.

Biggest problem with rv's is water, moisture, get a good dehumidifier and have it on when ever parked !

Any reason for omitting the two metal pieces off the bottom of the slide out floor. I’m guessing they were wear guards / abrasion resistance for vapor barrier

I have had bad experience with Gorilla Spray Adhesive in hot weather becoming tacky again an making a mess. Hopefully it works well for you, love your videos.

I would have cutdown the box around the tv so that it was not as think out from the wall. Then put it back up, so that it only stuck out a couple of inches instead of 6.

Hey so I was recently gifted a pretty nice RV but it has 3 holes in the floor. This works on all flooring for it right? 2 are in a sliding out part and one is in the kitchen area. The sliding out part doesn't seem to have plywood flooring for some reason though.

Thank you Josh ! The first piece was normal plywood. The second piece was a much thicker engineered particle board form the manufacturer. Much heavier and stronger

Tip. Don't caulk around the flooring, When I did mine , I did caulk and when it expands and contracts, it can't move.

Be careful don't make the trailer heaver! You might want to remove the old floor like the ceramic in the bathroom.

Did you find the source of the water damage before going through all the work?? Did you test the plumbing/water system before starting?

The source was coming from leaky windows and roof seals. We resealed it all and she’s been good as new !

Maybe I missed it but.....the water damage in the slideouts was caused by leaks. Did you ever find the source of the leaks?

As an owner and installer of a flooring company, I would not have installed the floating floor, definitely would have gone with glue direct. A little more prep but the end product is much easier to maintain, will last longer, and is 100× easer to replace should the floor ever be damaged. The shifting of the camper will eventually work seams loose, floating floor should be installed where there is no movement in the subfloor. Hope is stays together for a little while at least, with all the work you put into it.

@@rebuildrescue you did a good job, just one other piece of advice. You never want your end seams any closer than the width of the material. We call it a zable. Looks like your boards are about 6" width so you don't want you end joints closer than 6". It's stronger when you space them, the closer they are together, the weaker that joint is. Keep up the good work tho! Enjoying the work, like that fact you aren't afraid to tackle something you haven't tried before.

What kind of auction was this? Insurance auction? Slide-out floor was damaged, any other major damage? Heck, it was still usable with the moldy wood removed and slide-out pulled in, no?

It was a bank auction. It would have been usable but not too nice with the ant infestation in that rotted wood.

Your last scene just scared me. The way that corner piece is sticking out is a very dangerous thing for anybody walking around the trailer, especially at low light. Please think of some kind of safety cushioning before somebody gets seriously hurt. Otherwise keep up the good repairs.
