DIY... Total Materials costing under $30!
Ok, so this isn't my best filming/editing job... Actually its quite terrible from the filming angles and quality, to the lack of filming thereof... But hey... THAT AUDIO THO! Im happy to announce that I have discovered a super way to record audio that isn't from my phone! I have a RAZER SCORPION X ($50 gaming headset) and a AUX-USB converter that allows me to record directly over my videos. Pretty awesome!
Oh yeah... The saddle pad. I hate it. If you want to buy it off me, its yours for $50.
So you may also be wondering how long this actually took... In total I'd say it was over 3 months. From getting the materials in July, to completing it for the show in October, the main hitch up was in finding quilt binding! I only bought one pack because I thought that was all I needed. I was wrong, and when i went back to get more EVERY HOBBY LOBBY AND JOANN WAS SOLD OUT FOR A MONTH! Darned home mask-makers kept snatching it. So as soon as I found more, I was back in business.
Last but not least... Thank you dearly for watching. I love to hear that you guys watch for my videos and enjoy them. Keep the feedback rolling in, and i'll be sure to respond!

I suggest using spacer mesh for the bottom. Adds more padding and breathability.

Couple of suggestions! If your fabric can be ironed, try a fusible stabilizer to hold the batting and fabric together, then they won't shift- also adds a little weight to the material so it won't pucker as much! Also for piping- if you get the kind with the lip, the lip can tuck under your binding as you sew and then it is attached without hand sewing!

I'll be keeping this comment in camera roll for future reference! I am however ashamed to admit that I did buy piping with a lip.... and cut it off before hand sewing. I was frankly afraid I'd be in a little over my head trying to do binding/ piping simultaneously. I might get braver next time around!

I made one following your instructions: cotton cover and binding, two layers of wool wadding, polypropylene back then covered by mesh. I also added a spine and straps with Velcro. It looks like it will do the job well.

Thank you so much, it took forever to do! Sewing isn't super hard... as long as you have 3 machines and can swap them out when one (or two) breaks...

I can barely sew using a machine 🙈 My aunt can sew though. I might send her your video and some fabric 😂 It really is a lovely pad. You’re very talented. And fab to see you uploading again, as I really enjoy your content x

I would suggest using an industrial sewing machine for all heavy duty stitching, they are extremely reliable, although I don’t have one myself but I am planning on getting one myself for my bag making projects and now numnuhs (saddle pads)

Great idea! The ol' reliable singer finally fritzed and I find I will probably be in the market for a new one if I plan on doing anymore saddle pads 😅

Well done! Four layers of batting is key, it looks like. Sewing satin is not for beginners, imo, and a different foot definitely might have helped. The amount of time this took you, makes me think....I just might buy, instead! Very patient, you are!

You're not wrong... and I just realized I didn't break down how much was spent on materials, either! (I would honestly have to agree with you that this was totally not worth it! Haha!) However it is fun being able to make it however I please!

Cool idea! Did you use a walking foot? If not that would potentially help with the fabric shifting.
@haleywinston3803
@haleywinston3803 2 жыл бұрын
I just used a normal presser foot! The fabric shifted a little, but I just ripped it out and started over a few times, lol! I'll look into a walking foot next time 😄

I've been thinking of making a saddle pad for myself! How come you ended up hating it?! Do you hate it because of how it looks or something that went wrong when you were making it? Thanks!!

Funny story actually... I accidentally added a seam allowance and that added about an inch to every side. It just turned out too big for my saddle, so it's not as perfect as I'd like it to be! Just choose a pad shape you like, and cut it to exact size!

Hmm…I’m making a saddle pad for my horse but how did you do that middle stitch? That’s what I’ve been trying to figure out- but your camera died 😭
@haleywinston3803
@haleywinston3803 6 ай бұрын
Yeah that was the tough part. The top strip "spine" just gets seamed and sewn. I got the first half of it on film. But the underside had to be hand sewn (in the hotel before my show lol) . Just make an identical spine strip, and sew it with a "ladder" hand stitch to the underside!

@haleywinston3803
@haleywinston3803 2 жыл бұрын
Hey! I used an old '99 singer machine. You can pick them up at garage sales frequently! It had a little trouble going through the binding and padding, but it's a solid machine

The colored material is satin, and the backing is like a poly mesh! The binding is just basic binding material from hobby lobby!
