This was incredibly helpful for breaking down a complex concept!

Before I ask you, you answered it perfectly and made me full. I was wandering where the RDRP comes from if no translation was made in (-) RNA? now I got it; "it is packaged into the capsid." Thank you!

Thats literally why i came in here! I was wandering my head off how did it do all of this while its anti-sense! Underrated video.

for the RT-ssRNA virus, would it not also use the cell's DNA pol to make the second strand of DNA? Like it uses the RT-enzyme to take +ssRNA to ssDNA and then does it take ssDNA to dsDNA using the cell's DNA pol? Thanks for the video !

Thanks for the videos ,why can’t the HIV-retroviruses use the + sense directory as “mRNA” to make proteins ,why need to amie DNA first ?

Hi, one question: the ss RNA+ virus don´t come packaged with the Rd-Rp? Beacause I assume that a virus like Sars-CoV-2 supposedly is a ss RNA+, and one gene that the PCR uses is the RdRp so, does this mean that this virus also comes packaged with the RNA dependant RNA polymerase? thanks
@maximalia442 жыл бұрын
I come a bit late but the RdRP is not packaged in the capsid of SARS-CoV-2. Instead, it is encoded by its (+)ssRNA genome (which is like an mRNA). It means that one of the first proteins that will be produced from the viral genome, by the host cell translation complex, will be the viral RdRP. The reason why (-)ssRNA need to have a ready-to-use RdRP packaged in their capsid is that antisense RNAs cannot be amplified nor translated by the host.
