Connor Hughes: "Contract-hungry players holding out is nothing new. What’s surprising about the Jets-Reddick situation is the team felt they and the player were on the same page at the time of the trade. The Jets made things clear to Reddick: They would not rip up his contract before the season. They directly communicated that while adjustments could be discussed (adding incentives based on performances to his current deal), there would not be an extension. Reddick would play out the deal, and if his sack production continued, he’d receive the salary he coveted as a free agent (either with the Jets or another team) after 2024. The two sides would reassess after the season if Reddick wanted to continue to play for the Jets."

Dog jfm had a down year last year and has a bad contract. huff is the only real head scratcher to me and I wouldn't pay Reddick anything until he plays a down in a jets uniform lol

because it was made clear and agreed upon to Reddick that he’d play out his contract year and now Reddick wants to hold out for an extension instead of playing for one of if not the best defense in football and get a bag next year. That’s the main reason why they didn’t sign Huff to an extension because they felt like they had too many upcoming contract obligations in the long term with our rookies and expiring contracts, not to mention they already drafted 2 edge rushers in the first round in back to back years. Reddick was a win now piece and a safety blanket in case Will mcdonald doesn’t develop as fast as they believed. I’m so tired of people talking about letting Huff walk as if it’s a bad thing, is he a good player? sure. but he benefitted from a great scheme and straight up isn’t good in run defense. We just paid Quinnen, we have to pay Sauce, Garrett, Jermaine and Breece. We also have to think about extending our players like DJ Reed and/or MC2, AVT and the biggest elephant in the room is Rodger’s contract which looks great now but is insanely backloaded with a huge chunk of that going in the next couple of years, years that are pivotal to keeping our players where we won’t have enough money to pay for them all if we hand out extensions like candy to players like Reddick or Huff.

JD should have gotten something more for JFM. Unless JD setting something up in the future with the same team he traded JFM too to get a player for a lower draft pick also ya never know.

It's important to not underestimate the human element here. Bryce Huff did not want to be a Jet anymore. He wanted to go to the Eagles and that's what he did. It's unfortunate, but that's what happened. I assume the Jets offered him a similar contract but he wanted out.

I'm assuming that somewhere the numbers of the proposed extension must have changed pre trade to him being a jet. They knew he wanted an extension so some of that is negotiated prior to the trade but then someone changed their tune and here we are

I've been saying this since Huff was on the team and was never signed to an extention... Huff wanted no part of Saleh and his inept coaching. The Jets are all in on a 40yr old Aaron Rodgers with no contingency plan & the worst offensive staff in the NFL. Saleh is a HORRIBLE HC , the worst in the league... this team is a rudderless ship.

Reddick sounds like a major headache. Don’t we have anything in writing as far as contract? We just took his word that he was going to show up?
