It's all modern agriculture that destroys the environment. Look up solarpunk, permaculture, polycultures, the effects of plowing on the microbiome, and the way old growth ecosystems work. We could feed way more people with the land we have feeding livestock, but that total land could be productive and host a native ecosystem, and we'd all be healthier. Regenerative agriculture and aquaculture that farm systems of animals and plants gown in a balance with the environment are the best bet we have outside of just growing food in space and turning everything we can into a nature preserve. Humans are omnivores, and we don't really know if plants can feel pain, we can source protein from much more efficient sources than mammals that only hold onto 10% of what you feed them. Just chickens, mushrooms, or sustainably farmed fish could be more than 150% less wasteful, and you don't need to end a chicken's life early to get food, just if you really want tender meat. You can respect animals and still eat them. Most cultures used to, but when meat is just there on a shelf it is hard to imagine all that went into it, and you may have a job, wife, bills, and kids to worry about.

I always think it’s funny how people think that native religious things must be real because the native people say so.
