In this Bonsai Video we are repotting a Forest Flame Bonsai also known as Pieris Japonica. This tree has been in a pot since it was rooted from a cutting over 15 years ago!
Hey everyone! We are repotting a Pieris, also known as a Forest Flame. Throughout this video, I delve into the intricacies of repotting this Bonsai, covering a range of tools and techniques essential for this process. I demonstrate how to handle a Bonsai with a tightly compacted root mass, posing a threat to the tree during repotting. I also discuss the importance of soil type selection for optimal growth and health allowing more oxygen into the soil for rapid root growth. Utilizing specialized Bonsai tools such as a Root Hook and Jin pliers.
While it may seem unconventional to use this species for Bonsai, Pieris, or Forest Flame, possesses unique qualities that make it an excellent candidate for Bonsai. With its small leaves, beautiful flaky bark as it matures, and the stunning display of vibrant red new leaves in spring, these trees offer a refreshing twist to traditional Bonsai aesthetics. If you have any Bonsai tips and tricks for me when it comes to the Forest Flame please leave them in the comments!! I am always open to new and different ideas!

Happy to see you measure the length of the wire, so many cut off a foot of wire. I hate waist! What'd the most satisfying phrase in the Bonsai Community? "Give this tree .. a water". Thanks!

As a beginner the tools you rly need is a pair of chopsticks, a fork, a good cutter, a sharp scissor, and a concave cutter(you cant rly replace it). And as time goes you can upgrade your arsenal one by one

Nice and honest about possible reasons and issues with lack of roots. It happens to us all Adam. I will follow this with interest as I do not have one in my collection. This might have been a great candidate for a pond basket...all the rage in my garden right now :)

Thanks Xavier! I would rather not gloss over mistakes because there is always space to learn from these things!! A pond basket sounds like a great idea! I did consider this, though the only pond baskets I have left at the moment are HUGE ones! 😅

I got some kanuma soil for my azaleas and I rarely use any fertiliser in the water and they’re thriving
@notionbonsai
@notionbonsai 4 ай бұрын
Ahh nice one! Kanuma provides great drainage and acidity, which are ideal for azaleas. The fact that your plants are doing so well with minimal fertilizer suggests that they're getting the nutrients they need from the soil and environment.
