In this video I repot my old Jade plant into its new plant pot. This Jade plant has been suffering a little over the last year, hopefully the new larger pot will bring the plant back to full health and allow it to grow into a larger plant.

I think I need to feature it more often, I used to make a lot of videos about it, but for the last two years its taken a back seat.

Thanks, I will try and do updates more regularly, hopefully it will grow better with the new pot. Since I moved house my Jades have not done as well as I don't have the large sunny windowsill that they used to love. But I hope to upgrade my conservatory over time to make sure they grow better again.

Thanks, one of my patrons on Patreon helped me choose it. Once I modify my conservatory to make it better for my plants I hope to increase my Jade plant collection.

Incredible that this update comes now. Lol. I specifically came to this channel, just last week, after getting my first jade plant (a tricolor). I watched your original rot cutting video and it's looking BEAUTIFUL! If anyone has any beginner tips for the tricolor jade I'd love to hear them. When my plant arrived it was not what I expected. I was expecting a very young, rooted, single stem and recieved a 3 inch tall cutting that looks much more mature. The stem forks from the soil and is already a darker brown, missing leaves. I'd love to know how old it actually is. Lol. My biggest issu though, is that it looks as if it was grown on its side with all the growth at a 90 degree angle on one side. It won't even stand on its own. It's beautiful though and I can't wait to get started, getting it into the condition I'm wanting.

They have one that is the mother plant to every Jade I've ever had, I must have propagated well over 100 plants from it over the years. They got it almost 20 years ago and back then it was already an old Jade plant and it hasn't really grown much since as they water it like a cactus and don't feed it so it grows very slowly. It needs pruning and a new pot so maybe I should make a video about it.

@@Gardeningat58N definitely that would be amazing if you do a video of that! Love how many years these can live for! Definitely my all time favourite indoor plant, I know everyone thinks they are common and perhaps boring but I adore them, so fun to trim them and watch their shape change etc too 😊🌿 Hope you are all settled in now with the new home 🏡

@@Gardeningat58N and over 100 plants from one original stem is so amazing, something so special about that. Hope this one loves his new pot, good choice! Looking forward to seeing him grow 😊🌿

Yes they can live for over 100 years, people often send me photos asking about how to prune their Jade plants, some of the plants were around 100 years old and were huge plants that had been handed down several generations. Usually from the west coast of the USA as they can be grown outdoors in that climate.

Oh cool its still around! Having grown a few jade stumps myself i was curious to see how this one faired! The leaves on mine tend to redden when the weather gets cooler prior to flowering in winter.

That's a little different to how my plants respond, this plant has really perked up since the repot and is putting on lots of new growth. I'll probably film another update in autumn.

Glad to see the plant that was affected by rot pulled through - interesting trunk to play with. Question: How do Jade plants fare in shallow (bonsai-like) pots?
@Gardeningat58N
@Gardeningat58N Жыл бұрын
They don't grow as quickly, but they still seem to well in shallow bonsai pots, I have a couple of plants grown in such conditions and they just need watered and fed a bit more regularly due to the small root space.

Thanks for the update 😁 I didn't anticipate it this quickly when I asked for it yesterday 😅 p.s. where is the smaller pot from? It's beautiful.

Your comment was very well timed, I had already uploaded the video the day before and just needed to make the thumbnail and publish it. I found the smaller pot in a charity shop in Edinburgh where I used to live. I always have a look in charity shops for nice pots, however I don't come across them very often so over the last 10 years I've only found 3 unusual pots from charity shops. As this new pot was for a special plant I made sure I asked the seller for information about the pot.

Have you tried growing olive trees?
@Gardeningat58N
@Gardeningat58N Жыл бұрын
I've not personally grown them, but I've looked after olive trees for some of my clients when I was a gardener. They seem to grow ok in Scotland and can tolerate the frosts in places away from the Scottish highlands. They sometimes even form small olives, but they never ripen.
