I wish I saw this video before I bought a bunch of plants! As a newbie, I got really excited, so I bought a bunch of different succulents, repotted them, and watered them without really knowing what I was doing 🤦🏼‍♀️. I do live in Phoenix AZ, where it’s super dry, and all the pots have drainage holes, so I THINK they will be ok, but I’m going to keep a close eye on them. I'm so grateful for this video! Finally caved and bought my first succulents today. They were pretty dry so of course I watered them right when I got home. Im planning on potting them in the morning and just came across your video while trying to learn more. So now all of my new babies were very gently taken out and put careful on a wire rack to help dry out the soil. Thank you so much for the great information

Thank you so much for this video! I have never really kept succulents because of having no clue how to properly care for them, but this year I bought a few and they are doing quite well. However, I don't know why they are doing well! I do plan on putting them in terra cotta pots. Now that you have answered some critical questions, I feel much happier knowing how to care for them. It's hard to just find a simple answer to the care of these plants and your video was nice, straight forward, and I no longer feel like I am crazy because I listen to my plants. When I transplant my succulents I check for dry or wet b4 transfering to another pot- if dry I soak it in a little bit of water to soften the dirt b4 loosening the soil so not to damage the roots. If too wet i don't water it I just plant it in cactus soil with sand and permiculite simi dry dirt. Also what help is moisture water meter. $8.99- $34.00 Amazon or Wal-mart. Great basic tips, which really help to be successful with succulents. Terracotta versus glazed pots. Terracotta is breathable, glazed are not. Drainage holes are so important! Thanks, for your great tips.

Im so glad i found this video i am subscribing! My roomate and i each bought a succulent a couple months apart from each other. We both overwatered of course and they died. So i bought us each a new one a month ago. I had heard once a month watering so i learned about watering today. They were SO DRY. I bottom watered. They are tiny plants in tiny plastic pots but i have the twrra cottas that the other ones came in. Neither have holes so ill try to hand drill holes in them. Now i have to figure out what each one is, summer or winter growing. So much to learn but once you know, you know i guess.

And i want to say ive wanted succulents since i first saw on pinterest a wall succulent garden. It was very cool hanging on a patio and so colorful. I lived in an apartment back the so it was years and years ago. I bought seeds from Wish once. Idk what became of those. So this is my first real attempt. They are everywhere in north texas. Maybe like that in other states too.

Thanks! I had no idea about the damaging the root and watering afterwards thing ! That's what I'm doing wrong ,I bet! I thought,why isn't she watering it ,it's super dry ( after potting) . But when u said if u water it ,it could get root rot from the damaged root. I did not know that! Thank you! Well, I learned something!. I always message and loosen the root ball so that it will grow but of course things happen.

Oh my goodness, I just damaged some roots of a jade plant (pulled them a little) when trying to repot without realizing they were the roots and panicked so hard. It was only a little bit of them so hopefully they're okay. Glad to know it's part of the process, will definitely NOT be watering for a while.

I had never really had succulents before. My boyfriend brought an arrangement of succulents home from a co worker that though they were dead. It is jade, donkeys tail and something else that I am not totally sure what it is. I've had them for about 6 months and just water them every month or so and they are looking really good. The jade is growing like crazy and all the leaves were shriveled before are thick and full. The donkey tail lost most of its leaves before I got it but now has at least a 4 inches of new growth that looks really good, on the end of a pretty bare stem that is like 6 inches long. The other plant is growing well to. I think when it gets warm enough outside I am going to try to separate them and repot them. Thank you for this video it will help me alot.
