Learning about this in biology, but the 2d diagrams made it difficult to wrap my head around. This video explains it beautifully. The mechanism to open the sporangia is particularly fascinating! Evolution is such a magnificent thing

10:05 some team of 2 or 3 people had to work together to animate a spring sperm crawl up the Archegonium to fertilize the egg with a bright glow and a "Bing" sound effect. just think about that.

Glad I wasn't the only one who thought it was pretty absurd they added the bing sound too. Pretty funny though.

Nothing short of amazing...I live next to an coast live oak forest that is replete with Coast wood ferns...they are in the spore producing stage with numerous sori on fronds...praying for rain, or I'll make it rain with my DeWalt Power washer sold exclusively at the Home Depot...Let's Do This!

It’s 3:30am. I am here out of my own free will. I’m so amazed that it took me 30 mins to watch this because I slowed down the speed of the video and kept going back to make sure I’m understanding correctly. I’m watching the full video again but at normal speed this time. I’ve been on a fern kick for the past few hours now. I came to the conclusion that ferns are probably one of the most intelligent organisms there are and it’s difficult for me to call it a “plant”. I read somewhere that Einstein was terrified of them. They didn’t make sense to him . That’s what made me look into them. If that was really true, can you imagine if Einstein could only see this video? He’d end up in a psych ward! Thanks so much for posting this. I’m greatly enjoying it.

Exactly why I watched as well. I never knew how complex the process is ! I wonder if staghorns have kept the gamete's fronds to grow as the shield fronds to support the the fertile fronds 🤔

3:53, so does one spore contain many tetrads? All the tetrads in one spore are genetically different (because they all underwent meiosis separately, so they will have different combinations of DNA). If so, how does selection work for which tetrad will germinate, and determine the DNA of the rhizoid?

Does the male flagella behave like a plant or an animal, or neither. I would liked to think It behaves like an animal, particularly since the fern is a more ancient non - flowering.

Fantastic explanation of the Life Cycle of Ferns! I am doing an Experiment of growing Treeferns from spores at the moment. Very successful so far. They are now in their sexual Stage and a Little beyond as the first real “fronds” emerge. Very exciting experience i never did before.

Pretty amazing, the more I learn about science and nature the more ridiculous I find evolution by random mutation to be. These are clearly micro machines brilliantly designed to perform the functions they are programmed to do. If evolution was true, it should be too hard to get so many complex co-dependent mechanisms to develop in tandem with other mechanisms- yet we constantly see it in everything we look at, especially now with the aid of electron microscopes. The Science of the small has destroyed darwin, yet all these old dogs just can't let go of their views, which has been a constant problem in science. Evolution is pseudo-science kids!
@ArheyAqualtis
@ArheyAqualtis 7 жыл бұрын
If you are idiot and can't understand some complicated stuff, don't show your stupidness. Evolution of Plantae took 2,5 BILLION of years. BILLION. Your petite brain just can't imagine that. Science can explain this evolution (and it did) easily and effectively. I bet you didn't even OPEN any botanical or evolutionary book. It is so easy to announce something that you don't even understand a lie. Grow up, study. Don't be a hostage of delusion.

@@stairwayunicorn4861 show me a study where right handed amino acids (the 20-21 that code for life) came together just right to form a single protein without life making it. This should be easy to demonstrate. I wish people I ask this of understood the significance of what this means. It's worse than trying to form a castle by shaking Legos in a box. Nobody ever answers this. This is just one incredible problem of many. Anyone who loves coding or engineering should understand- such masterpiece of sophisticated exacting design is every part of every part in microbiology. Iteration cannot arrive at this.
