Really great display of lighting information that all new keepers should watch, i would say that the halogen lights are more expensive but last longer than the cheap stuff at big bunns and output more heat per watt also saving money long term!

So don't use CFL bulbs if your enclosure is too big? Could you possibly show how you'd arrange full light spectrum light, uv light and a heating element? Oh well that answers that. So keep them as close together as possible. Now that I think about it it makes sense.

Yay! I finally found an Aussie content creator on reptiles. I've been looking at getting my first reptile but its hard to follow along some care guides when they're talking about American products used with reptiles we dont keep as pets here. Keen to learn! 💪

Very informational video! Glad to see you still making good content. (Better than all the BS clickbait you see…) Also wanted to comment on the LED UV’s. I’ve been using the VivTech brand lamps for my snakes, still giving a good UVI reading after 2 years!

Great video. Clear, concise and great infographics used to illustrate your points clearly. (Boom, I'm suddenly turning into a teacher marking an assignment! 😅😅) My only criticism: night time heat - is it needed? When there's overhead infrared coming from a lamp during the day, that heats up objects, which retain IR-C well into the night. I suppose it depends on the setup. Setups with shallower substrates, less rocks etc and the varying sizes may cool down quicker than those with deeper substrates, more space for rocks and clutter that retain secondary heat from above via IR-C. Does providing heat at night (as in infrared A, through a DHP), interfere with their circadian rhythm? Generally, well insulated homes should provide enough warmth for their night time needs without having to use additional heat sources?
@coopsreptiles2588

Good point! It’s very rare I use heat at night in any of my animals homes but I am lucky In that I’m in Australia and it doesn’t get below freezing where I live!

Great breakdown! Do you have a reccommendation on LED then in terms of placement? For my 36" long, should I only place a 12" led on the one warm side and nothing on the left cool side? Or is LED lighting the one exception where it should stretch across the whole length of the enclosure? Big thanks from the US!
@coopsreptiles2588
@coopsreptiles2588 Жыл бұрын
Yeah LED can go along the whole tank if you like. It is most important that the heat and UV cross over as the reptile needs both together to properly utilise.

Does the harvemax daisy chain with Arcadia and compare with a Jungle Dawn. Thanks
@coopsreptiles2588
@coopsreptiles2588 Жыл бұрын
Yes it can link together with those! It produces a bit less light then a jungle dawn because it only has a single row of diodes whereas the jungle dawn would have 3 or 4. I’d have jungle dawns on everything if I could but I need to save some money haha!

Good stuff to know. I took my Arcadia that I had on my bready and moved it to my box turtles after having it on the bready for a year so good to hear that they are still getting uvb from it just not as strong. This is what I wondered about so thanks for this one show on lighting. 😃 GOD BLESS from America 🦎💖🐸💖🐍💖🐢💖

@@coopsreptiles2588agree, if you have to, split the price of a solarmeter with friends. I will say my dragons and anole have two basking spots with one being a dhp, they choose that over half the time.

hi, id like some help on finding a good uvb source and basking light for my baby tortoises. i will get a mercury vapor lamp since my halogen has questionable uvb output. says on the box and amazon description but no proof. i will also get a long t8 bulb like the one you have. but i want to know if my halogen bulb is alright, since it has a good temperature for basking, but no proof of uv. thanks

yes dont rely on heat lamps for UV. use a dedicated UV lamp like the t8 you mentioned. halogen is great for heat

The uvb type depends on its use. But for the most part a t5 is going to be the best option we currently have
