December 2019 marks the 1st month of the last year that my recycle driver, Raul, will be with Republic Services, as he is retiring at the end of 2020. Compilations of Raul doing what he has done best in my neighborhood for the past 25 years will be posted throughout the month.
Raul has been my recycle driver as long as I've lived. It's definitely going to be different for me once he retires. Raul has been a Brea/Placentia recycle driver his whole time at Republic Services, but in November 2010, he got morning routes in Chino Hills. He started with Taormina Industries before it was bought, and when he began, my garbage day was Tuesday. Even after my garbage day switched to Friday in 2006, Raul remained my recycle driver, and he has always done my neighborhood for as long as he's been been with the company. In my lifetime, Raul's had 4 regular trucks. From when I was born up until my 3rd birthday, Raul had a Volvo RR. In 2005, Raul received 2641, which I have the most memories of as a kid because 2641's horn was super loud, and I would always cover my ears when he came to my house because he honked the horn every week lol. When I was in elementary school, Raul got 2729, 1 of only 6 LNG ACX RRs the yard received in 2010. They were some of the most unique trucks the Anaheim yard ever had because of the strobe lights across the top of the cab. Unfortunately (I have yet to learn why this happened), but all 6 of those trucks were sent off in June 2012, never to be seen again. To this day, I still don't understand what happened and why because they were some of the most reliable trucks. Once they were sent off, Raul received 2788, which he's had since June 2012. I have basically grown up with 2788 because it became my recycle truck when I was in 4th grade, and now, as a junior in high school, it's still my recycle truck. If you got this far in the description lol, thanks for letting me explain Raul's history with me and the company.
Part 1 to this series is a compilation of Raul in 2788 over 5 weeks collecting recycle in my neighborhood from mid-October to early November of 2019. Enjoy!
