"The first time I ever really listened to Kyle Kulinski’s show was in the back of a cab last summer. The driver had his phone hooked up through the stereo and was pumping out an episode through the car speakers - loudly, as if looking to convert a captive audience.
“Do you like Kyle Kulinski?”
The driver, Ahmed, was a recent immigrant and apparently a die-hard fan of Secular Talk, the political talk show that Kulinski broadcasts on KZfaq. I told him, yes, in fact. I do like Kulinski, had come across his show several years ago, and, all things considered, he seemed pretty good.
“He understands what we’re up against,” Ahmed said. “Like Bernie.”
But I was surprised to hear Kulinski’s name mentioned in the same breath as Bernie Sanders, particularly with such adoration. Because what I did remember about Kulinski’s show struck me as mostly capital-P “progressive” takes on the news - the left wing of the Netroots crowd more than the democratic socialism Sanders has popularized.
It’s an impression that wasn’t entirely incorrect.
“I have no time for philosophical, airy bullshit,” Kulinski tells me from his home in Westchester, New York. “I don’t want to hear about Lenin. I don’t want to hear about Marx. I just want a super plainspoken, straightforward agenda with a straightforward way of selling it.”
With over 800,000 subscribers and nearly 670 million total views on KZfaq, selling a progressive agenda is clearly something Kulinski knows how to do - even Democracy Now, the long-standing flagship of progressive media, cannot match his reach on the platform. Chapo Trap House can certainly boast a wildly devoted fan base (and a not insignificant degree of media influence), but their audience is roughly half the size of Kulinski’s.
While Secular Talk might be more likely to be looped in with the progressive networks around Air America and Pacifica alums like Sam Seder than the more resolutely socialist world, Kulinski’s fiery rhetoric, razor-sharp class instincts, and knack for withering takedowns sets him apart from his peers. Judging by his rhetoric alone, he’s closer to a Eugene Debs than a Chris Hayes.
But unlike Hayes, Amy Goodman, or his friend Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks - who began airing Secular Talk on his web network seven years ago - the thirty-two-year-old Kulinski is virtually invisible in the mainstream media. Despite his enormous fan base, his show has never once been mentioned in the obligatory trend pieces on “the Millennial Left” pumped out by the prestige media. Nor has Kulinski’s name ever popped up at all in the New York Times, Vox, the New Yorker, New York Magazine, or the Washington Post, despite his leading role in cofounding Justice Democrats, the organization widely credited with sweeping Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the rest of “the Squad” to power.
Just last week, his Wikipedia page was deleted. The reason? “There is very simply no [reliable source] coverage of this person,” according to one moderator. In new media, he’s king - the Sean Hannity of the Berniecrat left. In old media, he’s nobody.
I suspect there are a few reasons for that. There is nothing “cool” about Kulinski’s show. (As a friend put it, “‘Welcome to Secular Talk’ sounds like something you’d hear on Egyptian radio.”) His no-nonsense social-democratic politics won’t get him much cred with the Full Communism crowd. He records his show not in Brooklyn or Los Angeles, but in a studio he built himself in his modest Westchester home. His hair is too groomed and his taste in clothes too preppy to qualify as “Dirtbag Left.” Nor has he ever attended an n+1 release party. “Not only have I not attended one,” he says, “I have no idea what that means.”
And yet he’s astonishingly plugged-in for a young man in the suburbs. Wondering how Sanders ended up on the Joe Rogan Experience? Kulinski, a frequent guest on Rogan’s wildly popular show, introduced them. “You make the most sense to me,” Rogan told Kulinski on a recent episode. “You’re a normal person.”
Much like Sanders himself, Kulinski’s show has a massive audience that just doesn’t compute with our media’s understanding of “what the kids want” or even “what the left-wing kids want.”
It’s probably for the best - the very woke and very WASP-ish decorum haunting much of the media world is nowhere to be found in Secular Talk. “Corporate Democrats over-focus on identity as a trick to divert you from the issues that unite us all - class issues,” he said on a recent episode.

Forget about the govt. The fact that you people don’t even bring up the fact that men shouldn’t be getting divorces for no reason as well! But to be fair this doesnt really mean anything, because there are a lot of cultural reasons that lead to high or low divorce rates. For Example India has one of the lowest divorce rates and is a very religious country whereas Sweden which is one the least religious countries has one of the highest rates of divorce. Confusingly, Gulf States like Kuwait and Saudi Arabia have a very similar divorce rate to the USA and other western European countries whereas Ireland has a very low rate.

This isn't just bad for women. Without No Fault divorce, a man who wants a divorce would also have to prove infidelity or abuse. What if she isn't abusive physically but financially or emotionally. Men will have to go to the hospital and have physical abuse documented which is already something men don't do. Men will have to testify in court 'my wife bears me' and this is already a problem for some men to be able to admit. This is bad for EVERYONE.

I am Muslim and sharia law u can get a divorce but it should be for a valid reason so if he doesn’t please you in bedroom that’s a acceptable reason, if he is cheating, if he is abusing you, if he very stingy not broke but stingy like has money and doesn’t buy u anything or insulting u disrespecting you it had to be a valid reason basically 2:26 lol Christianity you are not allowed to have a divorce at all even if u get beat up if you see real Christianity they just changed that part 😂 to suit there selves but anyway all I’m saying is that’s dumb that they can’t get a divorce and sharia is not like Christianity even abortion we can have an abortion but it is very found upon, but the thing is only in certain circumstances so basically if you get raped, and there is proof and everything then yes, you can get an abortion or if the child is going to be severely disabled, and the doctors have told you the difficulties with that child or you have have utierus issue that you can lose your life then also you can have an abortion, but you can’t have an abortion because you feel like itlol that’s not allowed because that’s a human life and I know people say my body my choice but it’s wrong So sharia law is a lot flexible compared to the Christian and Jewish law there way more strict then us but media makes us look strict or maybe cuz we are more religious and we take religion serious that’s why they assume it’s worse lol this is the reason why God made a system for us that we only sleep with our spouse that’s it so if our spouse gets pregnant, they won’t be abortion because the man is with his husband and with her long-term because she’s sleeping around with Tom, Dick and Harry how much abortion she would have. That’s so messed up human life every time because you decided to open your legs all the time come on it’s ridiculous. I agree with the last things. This guy says, but this just don’t agree with. I think abortion should only be allowed only in those circumstances my body my choice is anoying yeah so I can fuck men and kill a baby everytime come on have a heart that’s heartless most heartless thing ever but like I said in my religion, they are exceptions so by the looks of the Christianity is a lot stricter than us😂 it’s old because majority of Christians have abandoned their religion that we look way more religious than them because we teach our kids, modesty and chastity life is not all about desire, desire desire if you cannot control your desires you’ll be an animal lol you might aswell be an animal nower days they teach kids do what makes u happy no bro not happening if sex makes unhappy when ur 7 go fuck someone ?? If drinking is what makes unhappy go do that if having drugs makes u happy go do that if watching porn makes u happy go so that like come on u can’t have a system like this without good laws everyone wants there desires life’s a test although many people deny it it’s the truth but oh well I guess everyone thinks it’s ancient myths and tales like Allah says in the Quran when they see our verses they say these are tales of the ancient .. how he is correct and our means about himself god cuz he is not a human being and us and we he uses those words to talk about himself cuz he doesn’t have a gender he isn’t a human and Allah says in the Quran I am time so do not play with the time you have Allah created time space everything look at the universe atleast believe in one god only who created this all let’s atleast agree on that

Its not just the case that people want people to stay with each other it is also that people do bad stuff and get away with it and then ruin others lives financially. I've read that 70% of divorces are initiated by women, and 80% if they are college educated. Women are in many cases incentivized to divorce. It's pretty universally accepted that family law still favors women (granted that is changing ... albeit slowly). As a man who was in this that situation, I understand JD's position. However, you can't force someone to stay. I think a better solution is reduce the incentives. Set much stricter limits on the awarding of alimony. Mandatory default to 50/50 custody unless one partner waves. Both of these would be a step in the right direction.

Most women care more about being graped or unalived by their SO than they do about money. Lots of women marry or date people who have no money at all, but they suit other needs. Folks are really trying to dismiss the fact that ending no fault divorce stops thieves (women) from marrying just for money and divorcing the husband with no reason at all to collect on all that she awarded from him in the divorce from simply acknowledging to the judge that there are "irreconcilable differences." Now she would have to prove that the husband is at fault in order recieve monetary gain. You folks are really weird

Why would someone be for this? A no-fault divorce is a legal process that allows a spouse to file for divorce without assigning blame to the other party. Instead, the filing spouse may claim that the marriage has broken down and the couple can't get along.

There is a difference between unilateral no-fault divorce and no-fault divorce by mutual consent. The unilateral kind is more unjust because it allows a woman to marry a rich man while tricking him into thinking she loves him, cheat on him while she waits the minimum time period, and then divorce half him and take half of his assets. This is effectively legalized fraud.

Being someone who just went through a divorce, I don’t think them pushing this is trying to force a woman in a marriage. This is to try and dissolve the financial burden men go through due to a divorce. In a no fault marriage doesn’t matter what the reason is, marriage assets are being split 50/50.

If a woman beats a man up so badly that there is a police report because of it, why shouldn't she face the consequences of that in court? If a woman cheats on her husband repeatedly, and he forgives her each time, why shouldn't a court take that into consideration when thinking about custody? We want men and women to treat each other respectfully, both in marriage and not in marriage, and I don't understand how no fault divorce helps that. No fault divorce has become an avenue for financial abuse and emotional abuse (Think of the man who has lost custody of his children. Even prisoners are allowed time with their children.) I'll give you a real life example: just last year I had to go in and get a colon cancer screening. Now I'm a young guy, a healthy guy, but the point of the colon cancer screening is that it's better to know if something's wrong with you than not. When you can do something about a problem that changes how you approach the problem. If my colon test came back positive, I might be able to save my own life having caught the cancer early. It would give men more ability to step up to the responsibility of fatherhood, and not fund family court lawyers who at this point are doing very well for themselves regardless of anything that goes on in your divorce, as there will always be divorce. A fault divorce does not mean you are stuck with a person, it just means you have to negotiate based on the facts of the marriage and the treatment you received, and when it's over, there's no more going back to court--it's settled. Why anyone would want to spend their time not moving forward is indicative of the person you're talking to and reasoning with--a emotional toll, and a child who is incapable of understanding the basics of what makes marriage work in the first place.

I believe there's a misconception that men blindsided by divorce are always at fault. It's important to recognize that women can also be manipulative in relationships.
