This is one of my favorite episodes from Rescue 911. I love the fact that the young dude (Jason) fully recovered from the accident. But I also love how his mom wanted to remarry his father!!

It is miracle that he survived. He did thank everyone who saved his life. After the accident he carries a I.D card. So people will know who you are and where you live. He is so blessed. I hope he is doing well and everything. If he does have kids. Maybe might have told them what happen to him. They will learn to wear a helmet.

Going downhill on a bike is so much fun. I do it at least three times a month at a lake near my house. But this road is very lightly travelled and I always, always wear my cycling helmet. The one I wear is a bit old and I will be getting a new one for Christmas. But still I always wear it. Be safe everyone!!

This is exactly why they started using a preapproved order from a judge to begin treatment on a minor person who becomes critically injured. I remember when it came about, and before it happened was a terrible era.
@emt5330

There is a legal principle called implied consent which would apply. You would not need any judge's order.

yes I know the tv show Emergency! was a drama, it was fact based in many ways. there was an episode where a kid was stung by a bee but no parents to consent to treatment. a cop was there berating Roy and John for not treating so he arrests the inconscious kid to give permission!
@EricWhiteTheGamer
@EricWhiteTheGamer 3 жыл бұрын
I don’t think he arrested him “I know what you mean by it” I think he give consent under custody but not “arrest” as that would have to have been filed as that.
@rocketdude1979
@rocketdude1979 3 жыл бұрын
@@EricWhiteTheGamer now that you say that I believe you are right. The officer in the episode was a "Lt Crockett" and he said something to the effect of when Roy & John were told to administer an epiphrne push by Dr. Bracket (Medical Control) that they could not comply due to parents being unavailable for permission/consent, so Lt. Crockett said "then I give permission, he is my custody" (implying protective custody). Emergency! had many of script elements pulled from actual call run sheets. Writers said it ran itself.

At the beginning of the school year a senior at my high school was going down a hill and thought a car was going to turn where he was so he swerved. His brakes were broken and his head slammed into a brick wall. He was airlifted and found to have a bone fragment in his brain. Luckily surgery was a success and he graduated without issue and is back on a bike.

You don't have to be racing down a hill at a high speed to get injured either. My rule at our home whether on a bike, scooter, Hoover board, WHATEVER, you have to wear a helmet. While waiting for her dad and mom to come out of the house to leave, one of my grand daughters who was 11 at the time, jumped on her bike, one of our dogs ran in front of her, to miss the dog she turned sharply, and crashed in the drive way. She had only been on the bike for seconds, was on level ground, not going fast but she hit her head HARD when she fell off. Her parents took her to the ER and she had a concussion. Just a few seconds, no helmet on, could have changed her life forever but luckily she had no permanent damage. HELMETS! ALWAYS WEAR A GOOD FITTED HELMET.

You turn them on their right side and put blankets or towels beneath his head. I'm a paramedic. That's the only 1st aid you can do, and make sure his airway, breathing and circulation stays open. Don't move a person's neck who's had that kind of crash though. Use the Modified Jaw thrust. if you have to but DON'T move his neck.

Also, the part about not finding his parents/guardians/POA to do a CRITICAL , LIFESAVING operation, at least in my state, or maybe it's a sign how medicine and public emergency service have progressed since this incident, are moot. The statute of Implied Consent applies to any and all individuals, regardless of age, in terms of life/ limb saving treatments, procedures, medication administrations, and operations. Meaning, if you are critical, and not 100% " with it" mentally, Implied Consent gives EMTs, nurses, doctors etc. the legal and ethical right and obligation to perform any and all tasks required to save your life w/o your verbal/written consent, or the same consent from a parent/guardian/POA, whetehr you 1 years old or 100 years old ( Living wills and DNRs not withstanding)

@@tylersheehy3918 exactly! And believe me I fell off my bike 3 months ago this past November the week before Thanksgiving and injured my hip. I what happened was I was crossing the alley pretty fast and slammed on my brakes and swerved a little bit to the right because a ups truck coming down the alley almost hit me so I swerved and I slipped on the ice and fell and injured my hip and I didn't have a helmet on I don't even wear a helmet when I ride but since I injured my hip and it wasn't like I injured my head I injured my hip so there for even if i had a helmet on it would not of made a difference I still would of been badly hurt when it comes to a hip injury but finally I got better and it didn't take me that long so I'm more careful on that alley now. Anyway I would not ride my bike down those hills. I would not want to be seriously injured like that kid luckily I was not as badly injured as that kid but I still had to go to hospital to get some x-rays and a cat scan and fortunately nothing was broken just a bad bone bruise and only spent few hours in the hospital. Anyway I'm glad that kid recovered because he got seriously injured and thank God he made it.

Something similar happened to me where I lost breaks and plowed into a parked car I wound up in the back of the car and if my head would have been just 1 foot to the left I would have been killed or knocked unconscious. And 2 people tried to sue me unsuccessfully the car owner for crashing into her car and the home owner where the car was parked sued me for getting blood on his driveway what the fuk has happened to America

I see plenty of kids today who do this with skateboards, weaving in and out of traffic thinking they're invincible. Can't care too much when they get hurt over their own stupidity.

It seems to me that bike helmets weren't popular back in 1989, so it would've been hard to have found and worn one. Even if he was in a coma he could still hear them talking to him. Your hearing is the last to go before you pass away. So, make sure that you don't fight around someone who is in a coma or dying.
