This roe deer was swimming up and down the river, unable to get out. With the help of the RSPCA, Simon rescued the deer from the water and released it on dry land!

Well done, Simon! Thank goodness it was a small deer, else we'd have an 'Oh Deer!" situation.

He knows deer well to take it far away from the bank of the river. If it's like any other dumb deer from similar videos it would have dived right back in.

It always surprises me how small roe deer are. In this part of Canada we have white tails and mule deer which are a lot bigger (and moose and elk which are huge). You don't want to mess with a full grown buck of those species.

This is the joy of having several species of deer. We have red deer which are huge and also fallow which are similarly sized to white tails. We also hsve tiny muntjack snd chinese water deer. And even a species called sika but i dont know these deer very well i beleive they are similarly sized to fallow

Also although roe deer are small they are incredibly athletic snd can jump very high. I live near a deer farm that has red and fallow deer they are of course fenced in but the wild roe deer are capable of jumping in amd out of the farm. They prefer to go under obstacles but are very capable athletes

English deer are so much smaller than the whitetails of north America. every time I see a deer rescue on this channel I keep thinking the adults are babies XD

I live in the States and the UK and I can tell you the Deer's here (UK) are smaller in general, however in Scotland the Deers (Stags) are enormous. I also find that Deers in the US are tamer and not so timid. In the UK they run a mile at the mere scent of you.
@AnnaMarianne
@AnnaMarianne 7 жыл бұрын
The deer you see on this channel have all been roe deer, which indeed are small little things. There are also fallow deer and red deer in the UK, which (in UK) are about the size of a whitetail. (Btw, I'm from Finland and whitetails have been introduced here, they're very pretty and miraculously not invasive at all.)

Where I live in western North America there are some whitetails, but mostly mule deer and elk, which are very much large than whitetails or European red deer stags. They are majestic, but as a female hunter who likes to go out alone I wish we had these small deer so I could get them out by myself. I can't live without venison!

@@KFrost-fx7dt PNW over here. I've been close to wild bighorn sheep, pronghorn antelope, Columbian black tail deer, garden variety white tail deer, elk, a rogue female moose and in Yellowstone, bison. All of these guys are biiig; even the white tail does are taller than me. I also wish we had coyote sized ungulates to hunt like Roe, but it's the Americas. We've got wild turkeys for that niche lol.

Poor little thing. Too many back yards in that are had dogs I guess, and it was either get eaten by dogs or go in the river. Maybe it went in and swam for a long time and couldn't find a shallow place to climb out.

1. Could the deer have drowned? (I have no idea how deep the River Thames is where this rescue took place) 2. How (in)frequent are river rescues for deer?

3:55 Just wondering, are all rivers thát crowded with swans in England or just the Thames? We have a song about swans in England, in the Netherlands. It's a lon song, called "Witte Zwanen, Zwarte Zwanen." (White swans, black swans.)
@philip013
@philip013 5 жыл бұрын
The Queen owns all the swans on the Thames. It used to be treasonous to eat one. That's no longer the case today, but it is illegal to keep or kill a swan.
@Silver_Owl

The Thames swans are owned either by the Queen, or by the Vintners Company or the Dyers Company.

I'm curious: would Wildlife Aid support the reintroduction of bears, lynx and wolves into the UK? Some think that would help cut down on excess deer in Britain.
@AnnaMarianne
@AnnaMarianne 5 жыл бұрын
I don't know about their position on the topic. But as a person from a country with plenty of those animals... the brown bear rarely hunts, so it wouldn't be of much use in controlling the deer population. The greatest practical value I guess would be in incresed eco tourism. Wolves and lynxes hunt deer, but they also hunt sheep, goats, cats and dogs (wolves also kill horses and cattle), so there'd be a conflict between the locals and the reintroduced wildlife. You'd need to plan it very carefully and prepare well for the inevitable dead house pets and farm animals.

I wish Simon wouldn't call other people around his own age "young man" or "young lady" it comes across as really quite condescending and sarcastic. I do get the impression that in large doses, he would be quite a difficult man to work with a lot.
