I'm glad to see guys saving this car ! In 86 I was on the line putting small parts on the motor & hooking up parts already installed.

Super excited to see how this project goes. I've got an 88 GT, and like a lot of other commenters am going through a L67 swap right now. Pennock's Fiero Forum has been a huge help. Lots of information on there, even buy/sell postings. I went the route of just do the engine swap rather than diagnosing my issues, I suggest you also go the 3800 and F23 route right away unless you find out a easy solution to get it to shift. Project F will live on.

Hi I know nothing about these as we don't have any in Australia, but after you bled it did the clutch work, that is did the rod that pushes the clutch fork move, as it sounds like it is not disengaging the clutch plate. there should be about 1/2 to 1 inch movement. other wise check the clutch pedal bolt as some cars there is no support at one end and the bolt bends and you end up with very little pedal movement. Another thing is that if it has been sitting for a while the clutch plate and flywheel could be rusted / stuck together. just a couple of things to consider

I have an 87, great car, also you can adjust the tension of the springs for the rear deck pretty easily so it'll quit falling on ya

Might have a blown seal in the clutch master or slave. I’d replace both with Rodney dickmans replacements and rebleed and go from there. No reason that little 2.8 could have damaged that transmission enough to not go into any gears. I beat mine up with a 3.8sc

Do something different. Turbo LZ9 (3.9L from Pontiac G6, gap rings, cam, VVT delete, stop there and keep it simple) and 6T70 (gen 2 with basic upgrades) Auto with paddle shifter retrofit. You guys would probably be the first to do a 3.9 swap with auto and 3800/3800SC has been done to death on Fieros. Not many Turbo 3800 around though. Whatever though, not my car or my time and not my money, lol. I look forward to whatever you do. Thank you for saving it.

Guys if you’re going to 3.8 swap the fiery. You could always use the supercharged version. I’ve seen it done before and it was an awesome combo!

That hot lead touched the. coolant fill cap. The oil fill cap is located on the valve cover and is plastic.

Just picked up a 87 fiero GT today, engine runs a little rough but runs but trans (5 speed manual) doenst engage, clutch is fine

If, you have the will, it will run, but to run you have to build it robotic legs. That would freak people out. Make it so.

Most likely the slave cylinder or the clutch master cylinder is bad, had a very similar issue on my 96' Escort manual and all it needed was a slave cylinder mounted near the radiator fan. Some slave cylinders are mounted inside the transmission though.. hopefully that isn't the case for y'all!

That shifter looks to be a short shifter from the Fiero store. I had one on my 87 GT and it was very very stiff. Tire shops would have to come get me to move my car out

Those protruding metal tabs on the brake pads are wear indicators. Brakes will start squeeling when the tabs contact the disc. Pretty sure Ronald Finger knows exactly what's up with that car. 🚗 Great project. Next video, satisfying pressure wash of the driveway. Parents are thrilled! 😁

It might need a new clutch slave cylinder. Just bleed it thoughly. Worked for my 86.👍

It definitely needs a 3800 Series 2 SC swap with a 4t80e with a 3500 stall. Keep the supercharger and throw on a GT40 turbo. E85 and HP Tuners controlling everything. Simple setup and an easy mid 10 sec pass

Well now you have something to put that turbo 3800 from the wrecked Camaro. Obviously you'll need to rebuild some turbo manifolds, but you've got an engine. A new getrag f23 5 speed costs less than $500 for a new one. Could totally make a real fast ass car. Good luck

I'd still go ahead and put it into 1st gear while off and then crank it to see if it tries to move. basically see if the starter will make it move. might just be totally locking you out of going into any gear while running because the clutch won't release

Okay I was FURIOUS that y'all didn't do another F-body cuz I really wanted to see the process of a 3800 bird or Maro build but a FIero would've been my second choice so I'm not too upset anymore xD and its ORANGE??? HELL YEA

I saw some guy here in Albuquerque nm was able to swap an l26 to a 6spd getrag, he was also running a turbo. I asked him how he was able to do that and he said one of the hardest parts was having the clutch bolts drilled out and tapped to sr20det dowels to handle the boost. I think he was running a modified zzp z4 turbo kit.

I'm sure you did all your research for picking the 3800 for the swap, but can I suggest an ecotec swap instead? Also very plentiful, can make good power, and would be a fair bit lighter than the v6

So ive had problems with gm and thats a blown clutch

I'm curious as to if you have checked the clutch cable. Might be stretched and that's why it won't go into gear. Nice find. I'm excited to see what you do with it.

I did a ls4 4t80e swap. To my fierro
