Rescuing another stray kitten 🐱 ...i'm officially a cat lady

What I wish I knew when rescuing my first kitten was how much they need the company of another kitten. It worked out that Gordo's last available sibling needed a home (or at least a Foster home to get off the street during NYC heatwave), so in this video we are going to swoop her up and bring her home! While it's just a foster situation right now until I know how these two get along, I am fully prepared to officially adopt. These are the first couple days of double kitten motherhood!! And as overwhelming as it is, it's the best thing in the world. Thanks for following along on the journey. A lot of cat content lately, I know, but these are big moments that I want to remember 🧡🐱🐱

Pro cat parent tip: as long as Gordo doesn’t make growling sounds or weird noises while he hisses it’s all FINE. He’s just telling her HE was there first and HE is the dominant one (cat hierarchy). Also fighting/wrestling is a normal behavior for newly introduced kittens (I know they’re siblings but they don’t really have this notion in their system)

30 years ago I had one young cat. I decided to go ahead and be a cat lady. I got a second kitten. They were not related. They did become best friends. The amusing part is following this decision to be a cat lady, I met the person I would marry. He came with a house and a cat. Integrating the three took longer but it all worked out. Over the years, we fostered, we adopted, we sometimes had several cats. Now, we just have one and she is senior and blind enjoying her old age with two humans who spoil her. You are doing great with taking these two in. As soon as you are not stressing about following a life plan, you get all kinds of opportunities. ❤

Millennial cat ladies are going to be possibly the prettiest so far lmao I swear all my friends in their 30's and 40's that love cats are pretty gorgeous and have their lives together. Cat lady is clearly the new hot and considering Millennials dress better and more stylishly than Gen Z we are gonna see some fashionistas cat ladies folks! ❤️❤️❤️

@@ShellyBomb luckily cat moms don’t really have a huge attachment with kittens. They can have many litters in a short time span so they only will raise them to a point before they’re on their own anyways.

Calicos are predominantly female - and oh so sweet!!!! You've got this!!! They may hiss at first because it is all new - but if you let them run around together - they will be good! I've had cats all my life (and I'm old!) and even if the first day is not good- they end up best friends. Sometimes it takes a few days - sometimes it's instant! You are doing great!!!

I took in a stray momma who had 6 babies. I already had a 2 year old cat. For 8+ weeks i was going back and forth trying to make everyone happy but 4 months later everyone was adopted out except one which i kept so my cat Sammy could have a friend. Take it one step at a time and breathe. You got this!!!

You are an excellent Cat Mom!! 2 beautiful cats. They are going to have so much fun together - playing, wrestling, bathing, napping. Plus giving you individual attention. The hissing is fine. That is the way they are setting boundaries with each other - it is just their little warning. They are doing wonderful. I am so happy for all 3 of you!!

Longtime silent viewer here but I have to comment on this one as a huge cat lover. You are doing these kitties such a HUGE favor by giving them a loving, caring, and most importantly respectful home. You give them the space they need and don’t have expectations of them to be cuddly, playful, etc. I also adopted a calico from a shelter a few years ago and she was reeeeally slow to warm up but by giving her space has given her the chance to let both her playful and sassy sides show. I doubt I’ll comment again but wanted to say I love your videos and you are my #1 comfort KZfaqr who I would love to run into one day 🐱💛

That hissing is totally normal, we had 2 sister cats for almost 16 years and whenever we brought one home from the vet the other one at home would hiss and act crazy towards her :) They hadn't been separated ever.

I think almost all of us go through the same “what did I just do 😐” phase when getting a pet, especially a second one! I know I did when I foster failed my second dog. I promise you’ll feel better soon and it IS the best thing for Gordo to have cat company! Just have to tough it out the first few days but just remind yourself that you’re more worried about it than they are 😊

Oh my heart. I had to say goodbye to my sweet Delilah Mae (harlequin Holland lop rabbit) a few years ago. We all miss her so much, especially her Husbun, Lennox. The perfect name. Deli-Bean... we'd sing "Deli at the vet" (Benny and the Jets) at all of her appts. I'm 100% invested in your cat lady era.

Congratulations again!! Delilah is beautiful and calico kitty's are just the sweetest. I am a long time cat rescuer and adopting 2 is way better. So glad Gordo has his sister to grow up with. You are such a natural and a great kitty mom. Enjoy this time when they are tiny - they will grow up so fast, and watch out for those little murder mittens!!

So happy that you were able to give Gordo's sister a safe home!! I can relate so much to the overwhelm of a new kitten(s) because my husband and I just adopted an 8-week old male kitten to be friends with our 2-year-old girl. There was a lot of hissing at first, but now our girl grooms the little man and cuddles him when he is not trying to wrestle with her. We have always had adult cats, and -wow- adjusting to a kitten was a challenge!! I keep saying it's like having a toddler with teeth and claws on a sugar high! But we love him so much. These kitties are going to bring you so much joy, Chelsea! You're doing a great job 💗

I think both kittens sense how lucky they are to have a nice home out of the elements so they were on their best behavior. For neither of them to have cried the first night seems unheard of. I'm anxious to hear your take on the differences in males and females. I predict Deli will be the boss.

Also... the overwhelm at it being too soon is really normal. Especially going from a no-pet household. It will pass and you will see how much they actually enrich each others lives. And when you do go out, they will be less upset as they have each other.

We took in a pregnant cat at the beginning of the first lockdown, she had 5 kittens and they lived with us for 3 months, we kept the smallest and found the others home with friends and family. They’re all doing amazing, our boy is 4 and a half now and he’s a joy. It was an amazing experience and I’d do it all again in a heartbeat, you’re doing a great job Chelsea❤

We got a kitten 3 weeks ago, and our 2 year old cat wasn't happy with her. He also was hissing at her, and from time to time, they were fighting. But now they are kind of friends 😅 They sleep together, little girl keeps playing with him. It was a really stressful period, but I'm really happy to see how they keep getting along. Kitten follows her brother everywhere, and they play fight and cuddle a lot. I'm writing this to let you know that it will get much better, just be patient❤

I knew I was going to be a cat lady when I was 21. I’m 64 now and I currently have two cats. i live in a very cat friendly building and all the cats that live here get to roam, at least part of the time. This is what heaven is like in my opinion

I rescued a couple of calicos. My last I named Elsie (after a piano teacher I had as a kid). My ex used to call her "elisifer" because she'd take your face off if she didn't like you. She was not one to suffer fools (neither was my teacher). She'd been lost in the woods and was about a year old so pretty feral when I got her. She was my heart and soul for 18.5 years before crossing over on July 4th 2020. She was my guard dog, best relationship I ever had! Delilah is the spitting image. Still miss that little monster.

I shared a lot of your doubts before i became a cat parent. Cats are wonderful life coaches if you are willing to listen and they are some of the most social and respectful beeings on this planet. When they love you they do so unconditonally and they will never lie to you like people do. Gordo loves and trust you. You can see it by him sleeping near you with his belly unprotected and even let you touch it. You are a great cat parent. And your little tutors will help you find your inner peace for sure.

Omg, I’m 2 seconds in and there’s so much cuteness!!! Don’t feel overwhelmed. I’m a momma to 2 dogs, 2 cats, and a bird. Each time someone came home from the shelter I felt overwhelmed and questioned my decision the first day or two. But then everyone adjusts and everything works out just fine. ❤

I love the name Delilah. I think it suits her perfectly. I have never had kittens but I rescued both my cats off the street. My 2nd one during the pandemic which was a blessing because I got to be home with them. They aren't best friends but they're happy to coexist lol. I think Delilah and Gordo will be great friends. I had a Maine Coon mix make cat years ago, Gordo looks so much like him!!! And my Eli, was just like Gordo always biting. I rescued him from the street as well. He died suddenly and unexpectedly when he was only seven, it was so heartbreaking. That was 20 years ago and i still think of him. He was my first cat and my first loss. You will love having them!!!

Love the cat-content! Cats just make a home so much cosier. I had two cats as swell, siblings like yours, brother and sister. They were my baby’s for over 6 years. I loved them like my children. They were family. I miss them every day and often think about the fact, that they would have loved my now one year old son as well. So now I tell him about them. He loves cats so much.
