I rescued a fiddle tree last year around June or July . The plant was next to a dumpster , so dry and sad. I decided to bring it home. I had no idea what type of plant it was nor how to take care of it. The first thing i did give a good amount of water. Soon after that I saw growth. I was so happy. Right now my plant is growing so beautifully . This is how I became a plant lover

Okay I never thought I'd have a place to brag about this, but now I do!! My coolest plant rescue story JUST happened. I am a third grade teacher, and have kind of become known as one of the 'plant ladies' (we have multiple, which is SUPER cool). A neighbor of the school had pulled a bunch of succulent plug trays out of a nursery dumpster. She kept everything she wanted and I took the rest! They were terribly dry and overgrown but had hundreds of babies, so I got to work. I planted out about two thirds and had my class do about a third (there were SO many) and we cared for all these little plants about six weeks, until they'd rooted. We took over my classroom, my house, and the school library BUT we sent home every 2nd and 3rd grader home with a plant, every custodian and lunch lady got two, and a ton of teachers did as well. Oh, and everyone in the front office. Overall we gave out nearly 250 plants, all from a few trash trays and then soil and cups donated by the PTO. I've still got extras, now I just bring them to all the local businesses I go to all the time, and give gifts to all my neighbors. I've got the next round of TINY babies that were too small to give out, I'll be sticking them in plug trays and starting over to try to do something similar next year :) You're right... watching plants grow is just a miracle. Never stops being cool

98% of the time I buy clearance plants that look dead. I also pick up anything I see on the floor. I do ask permission to take them home. I love the challenge of bring a plant back to life.

I find rescue plants are good to experiment on, at least if it doesn't work you haven't lost anything. I'm like you, I love to watch how different plants grow and the different structures that they take. I'd love to see a video on what type of plant leaves continue to grow once they've emerged and ones that emerge fully grown. I love your channel, I'm pretty new to it so still have lots to watch. ❤❤❤

This was so much fun. My mum is so talented with her garden, and my siblings and I often joke about the gene just not reaching us, but recently I decided to learn about my rubber plant because it needed repotting desperately, and I've had amazing growth since! (Both in my learning and the plant haha). Then I did the same with my dragon tree. Also thriving! So then I was brave enough to harshly prune a very leggy and sad money plant we had abandoned for a long time, and my mum encouraged me to go even further and get rid of the final three branches which were still quite leggy and browning. In a few weeks I have a thriving plant, and I honestly thought I'd killed it! I'm learning to trust my instincts, and I've found a hobby (and talent!) I didn't know I had. 🌱

Its definitely fascination for me and my 6yr old, we both tend to bring home cuttings, seeds, trash plants, she's even brought home grass with roots😂, we love to bring home dandelion flowers and watch them turn into the seed puff 😍 we've grown stuff from food scraps etc etc...my living room looks like a plant laboratory 👩🏻‍🔬👩🏻‍🌾

Ficus are so resilient. Even if they're quite sensitive.. they always seem to bounce back. They can be a bare trunk, even a stick without roots, just put them in soil in a light spot, they will grow a new tree. Ficus are just amazing and always a great rescue!!!

If you add a little dome over the ZZ leaf props they should root no problem :) I often use a clear 2L pop bottle cut in half as a ghetto mini greenhouse for leaf props 🌱

Omg we had that exact plant at work and during the quarantine was left, most of the leaf where completely brown when we got back. I started to water it and did the same thing you did. And she recovered and grew strong ☺️

Saving a plant is always a success story for me.

I came here for THIS! Rescue Plants RULE! I look under the shelves at all the big box stores to find pieces to try to save- bits of succulent, ripped off leaves/pups- I’ve got jars all over with starts to hopefully give away. Right after a frosty night I’ll head to the big box stores to look for cold damaged plants too- I usually get them for the interesting pots they’re in, and leave them near my other plants to die with company, but all but one have come back with a vengeance. The Spotted Laurel continues to have 3 leaves, but it’s not really a plant I had wanted anyway. You should see my curtain fig bonsai!

My struggle plant was my Crystallinum seedling it was such a hassle and I gelt emotionally connected to it cause it was my first plant I invested money in But after it got sun burnt and lost it’s leaves I gave up and tossed it outside lmaooo My biggest success though is a pothos that my family was letting rot outside and I took the peices and repotted it and tried to save it and it worked! We’ve had that plant for like 10 years now so i’m happy to help it continue growing

I think it's so wonderful 👍 that you rescue this plants that otherwise won't have a second life. It's like rescuing abandoned dogs that otherwise get euthanized. It's such a great idea when you have such experience and knowledge of plants to save them. Good on you.

My biggest "success" is actually similar to ficus tree....I've been trying to rehab a gardenia for a year. It was doing so well until a really cold and windy (for us) March night, and it was set back, but does have new growth on it. 🤞

This is exactly why I am obsessed with plants they are amazing they can endure the most harsh treatment and still will do anything to try and survive. When ever I trim back Philodendron's I just cannot throw out the trimming I feel like I am murdering them because I know they will start new plants. I even save nearly all the seeds from fruit and veggies I grow or buy. Husband said he's sick of seeds drying all over the place on paper towels lol. My home is a jungle inside and I LOVE IT! All my Philodendron's started from ONE plant 30 years ago. My husbands seems to think I keep buying new ones lol. I been with him for 27 years and I told him no these are all from same plant and I showed him my mother plant and told him I had this since long before I married you. They are my kids I love all them! I enjoy touching their leaf's and talking to them stroking their stocks. I know they feel and hear me this maybe why plants around me do so well and thrive. You are so lucky to work around plants where you get first dibs on trash plants I have go to hunting for them. I normally go past new plants right to discount area to see who I can save lol

In the Netherlands we have "cuttings libraries". Some people have a kabinet with cuttings in their garden. You can trade a cutting for another cutting, seeds or pots. I got all kinds of sanseverias now, cause i want to collect all sorts of sanseveria. I'm going to follow you, i'm sure you can teach me a thing or two. Have a good day!

Aw I would love to see that little fluff ball running loose in my yard with my scruffy little mutt. Yard is only half an acre but even so he can really get a good run going on. He loves it so much. Love you saved all those cuttings. I also enjoy seeing things grow again from scraps. My friend here on youtube and I have done some super fun cuttings trades. I think is awesome what you do for plants, I'm the same way. If I see a plant thrown away I pick it up and revive it, they are living organisms just like everything that's alive and it should be given a chance to live !!!!

I have actually rehabbed reptiles for many years because it was so beautiful for me to see animals that no one wanted recover and thrive. I started rehabbing plants recently as well because I thought they deserved saving and it has been very rewarding. You can see they have had troubles but I think that is what makes them special, they have a story to tell and much like them I was given a second chance from muscle disease. It's special and lovely what you do!

Stumbled on your channel thanks to KZfaq recommendation. Loved this video! Just like you, I love plants and am intrigued at how resilient they can be. My daughter brought home a teddy bear vine years ago and that grew and grew but it's also dropped limbs and I've accidentally snapped some off while walking by. It fascinates me that I can shove those accidental broken pieces in soil, give it some water and sun and most keep going! Thanks for all the tips on the other 'trash' plants. Very valuable info to have. Keep going!

I’ve seen several vlogs about cutting into a fiddle leaf fig stem to increase new leaf growth. I’m going to try it on a small one that I have since it’s lopsided.

My favorite places to get plants to rehabilitate is estate sales. If I find out a sale has plants, I will try to be first at the sale. Many have just been neglected because the family has no idea how to care for them. I bought a pair of shears like the ones you are using at a sale last Thursday, brand new for $1.00. I also scored a huge peace plant and several older orchids for $2.00.

I appreciate your spirit & love of orphaned & neglected plants. The three "Snake" plant stems you have might grow roots (then whole new plants in Spring/Summer). The leaf bottoms must be cut horizontally, then placed in water. The long leaf can be cut 3 to 5 times and the "bottom parts" placed in water together. Once the roots form, place them in a mixture of regular potting soil and Perlite ( half & half ). They need lots of sunlight & water only 4 times a year. You probably know about this but I couldn't help passing on this info from my cousin the plant doctor. Good luck!

The satisfaction of successfully bring a plant back from the brink is so worth ✨🙏 I started a new job and had to look at a REALLY leggy cane begonia for so long before I finally asked if I could chop her up and repot. I got 25 single plants all together and only 1 hasn't produced leaves! So satisfying to bring all the begonias back to work to give away

Loved this video! I had propagated plumeria on my old property- all in pots, it wasn't tropical, but I could move them into the garage for winter and revive them in the spring, and they'd flower. One stick became 9 plants over time. Sadly they were all lost during one of those CA mega-fires, and now I wish I had given some of those propagations to others because perhaps I could have taken a cutting and restarted my plumie family. I now encourage folks who are very attached to something they've been propagating into multiples to share the wealth as a sort of protection against total loss!

Loved this video! 😊 I love trying to see if leaves will grow or little broken off pieces by putting them in the soil or water! You might be surprised at how much luck with the leaves or pieces of branches that you have put in dirt will do if you stick them in a little root grow first! Works great more often than not! You are a woman after my own heart. I enjoy rescuing plants as much or more than just buying established plants. My brother use to work in a nursery and would dig plants out of the trash for me. I just got a fiddle leaf (paid 5.99 for it). It was half dead but is looking pretty good. Keep up the rescue videos!

My pepper plant was hanging on for dear life A YEAR dealing with me. When I bought it, it only had 4 leaves and accepted the challenge. I noticed the plant wasn't dead, but wasn't growing. One day I decided to change pots and introduced fertilizer. WOW it's finally thriving and might even reap peppers. I'm SO excited for the finished product.. You're doing a great service taking advantage of unwanted plants

I swear snake plants are the most tolerant plants of bad conditions. When I was little, my grandma had a snake plant that sat in the corner of the bathroom. I'd never see anyone water it, and the plants in the other room would usually be forgotten from watering, so my small child self thought to water the snake plant when I was taking a bath. So it would be watered with tub water that had body wash and shampoo in it. That thing is still alive now years later in my great aunt's bathroom. Lol

I had a part time job with an indoor plant/live plant wall company and we would maintain the plants in businesses and homes. If any of the plants in the accounts started going downhill, we would bring them back to the warehouse and we were mostly allowed to bring them home. I brought home 3 FIF about 2 years ago and I have 2 of them still. They were both puny with a few leaves and random dead branches similar to yours. I was able to nurture them both back to health and put them outside last summer on my covered porch after notching the branches. New branches sprouted and leaves began to grow and done much better. But then I brought them inside for the winter and they both got wimpy again so they are about to get haircuts again 😅 I have over 100 tropical plants that I got for free working for the plant company. It was one of the most fun and hard jobs that I had. I love love love your videos ❤️❤️❤️
