These were so cool! I also need to add the book about Stalin, The Possessed, and some other stuff you recommended. The one about the birds sound cool. I have so many books to read though and I listen to audiobooks faster. I need to purchase five books on audible about mermaids for research on my first novel I have a bunch of activism books. I just got through the ones about SDS. I’ve been working on an Animal Rights Group for two semesters but promoting it’s like banging my head on a brick wall. I’m looking forward to graduating so I can pass the group to someone else and focus on writing my first novel, and working on opinion pieces during the day.

@@Finn959 Good question! The fact that Robert Greene includes it in his research on the sublime is a really big clue. I think when we come across things that are truly beautiful… for a fleeting moment… there are no more questions. The language in this book is exquisite. In a way, it became a new standard in my canon of taste. I’m a voracious reader, always hungry, and the poetry in this prose felt like bread. People can write about tips and tricks and hacks and happiness… but someone who follows birds for 10 years, can sit in the freezing rain, and not shy away from the violence in nature, describing the mundane with such poetry, and can find ecstasy in the banal… this is who I want to sit with and learn how to see the world.

@@TiaraMenjivar thanks for this very interesting take. As a self-proclaimed self help book addict, I have been in search of something like this for a long time. I have not the slightest interest in birds or bird watching, but if a human being can find/discern meaning and even ecstasy (without the need for mind altering substances e.g psychedelics/drugs) in such an obsessional pursuit, then I am definitely going to check this book out.

Thank you so much Robert for investing your heart and soul in every word, sentence, chapter and book you write. Unfortunately, so many writers tend to regurgitate the original book content in their follow up books only using different words masquerading It as a new concept or idea. Although that may be fine for some readers, I know your books will provide me with new ideas and concepts to marinate in for years. You are appreciated!

In Vietnam, the author is considered a modern-day grandson, and is very loved. Vietnam is a country that has fought against foreign invaders for more than 4,000 years. Our country is very special and our country also has many stories about the topics that the author wants to talk about in his works. I hope the author researches Vietnamese history more to include more vivid examples for future new works.

This may or may not be of interest, but in 2001 Dr. Michael Sexson of Montana State University, with of one his literary theory classes, compiled the MSU Top 100 books. He had a bookmark made and he used to pass them out all over campus. Anyway, the sublime figures in to all the books on that list. I'm sure if you contact the English dept. or the campus bookstore they will have that available. I think over the years the list may have been tampered with, but they should still have the original.

Robert is a deep thinker, a writer par excellent a man who embarks for years in the journey of researching, pondering and refining ideas and synthesising them in a book. In times of shallow thinking , instant gratification and shortcuts mentality such a man is a rare person ( the don't Make men like him any more ). I feel so grateful and blessed to be able to learn from him via his books and the amount of knowledge that he transfers is equivalent to years of learning. Robert has established a legacy through his books and has done a great service to the seekers of knowledge through his gems of books. I am sure in the next 100 or 200 years his books will be still as relevant as they are today.

A good book is WE APPY FEW. set in the 15th Century, its the story of a hundred year old man having to recount the battle of Agincourt when he was sixteen. It was funny, and poignant at the same time. It questioned what is the truth and what is history, all the while dealing with a medieval man who wanted to know about love and God. Worth a read.

So while writing you read a lot. Then don't worry about interference occurring. Because you are reading it at the time of writing, you are disproportionately influenced by that one book in question. If you read Schopenhauer or Hegel while writing, you will get a completely different end result, it seems to me.
