I got goosebumps watching this story. It's beautiful and rich for our Hispanic community here in the US. I'm Peruvian, but I love Mexicans and everything they do to keep the US going, regardless of the prejudice. Latinos Unidos! ✊🏼

As a Chicano growing up in Utah, we watched the Vietnam War on the TV throughout the war. I don't ever remember seeing Browns, Blacks, or Asians being interviewed or shown on the news clips. As I remember, most of my older brothers' and uncles' Chicano friends went to Vietnam. Most of the Chicanos from our town went into the military, and you don't even see their names on the street displays when you drive through our hometown.

My grandfather was Mexican American from San Antonio as well. He enlisted into the Army 36th Division in January of 1941 and was placed in the all Mexican 141st Infantry Company E.

@@robbielopez4142 Im looking forward to this movie. Many Mexicans consider Spaniards and therefore descendants of Europeans tho. Black troops were disproportionately in combat in Viet Nam compared with their numbers in the population. Overlord? I'd like to see it. Thanks for the info.

I’m kind of upset at other media outlets who every Veterans Day bring out their hero’s all Anglo white which is very ok , but would it kill them to recognize at least a few Mexican American veterans !! And thank you for this particular channel for bringing this to light

As a mexican American Im aware that Chicanos put in a lot for the US but to be frank I'm not starving for the other ethnic groups love or recognition i'm proud of our Chicano brothers Many families in the barrios had a relative that in listed so we are aware .the problem is that the youth of today don't even bother to ask questions or search for what is actually American history i love history and actually know of the accomplishments of not just chicanos but actual Mexicans who migrated to the US and in listed. The only validation we seek is from our families .

Recognition from other groups of people or other ethnicitys just to prove we are great doesn’t matter to us. only what our families think is what matters the most. Many Mexican-Americans consider themselves "Spaniards" and therefore European thus they are white. It may explain why they outnumber everyone in Texas and do not have a Mexican American Governor or Senator in Texas. For reference, check out the cartoon " Gordo" by Gus Arriola. The Mexican was pining for the blond white girl.

There is a Mexican soldier in the series band of brothers, they are in a foxhole drinking something, he tastes it, spits it out and says “esta madre sabe a pura mierda” or something like that, it warmed my heart to see my people represented in such an amazing series

@@joea6234negroes were never really placed in combat roles due to prejudice from their white CO’s. The ones that were unfortunately not in the greatest of circumstances. Mainly Hispanics, Native Americans and Asians got the worst roles for combat.

I know I'm late, but my uncle who was from San Antonio served in world war 11 he . My grandfather was also born close to San Antonio in the late 1800s. I'm the 4th generation born in Tx. Yes, I know about discrimination, not only in Tx. We became Christians, and the Lord does not discriminate no one. Praise the Lord!!!

Both grandpas. WW2 and Korean War. They move to Utah from Southern Colorado and Northern New Mexico hispanos. It’s like we don’t exist here in Utah, let alone honor Hispanic veterans. Oh and of course…any job they got was “laborers”. Great job putting light on it! 👍🏽

My late father Joe Rojas served int he US Army in WWI and reenlisted and served in Korea as well. He earned two Battle Stars and an occupation medal for the occupation of Japan. He didn't speak much of if and the stories he did tell were not pleasant. The war in the Pacific was brutal and he lost many friends. My uncle on my mom's side Pablo Rodriquez was one of the first American jet fighter pilots. He served in mig alley in Korea. He told me something I never actually read in history books. I asked him one time if the Korean pilots in mig alley were as good as I read about. He said he wouldn't know because most of the pilots they faced were not Korean. I said what do you mean? He said most of the bodies the recovered were blond haired and blue eyed which meant they were actually facing Russian pilots.

SmelterTown, Texas (La Esmelda) gave up Mexican-Americans to WW II. Great injustice, but these men and women "no se rajaron." Band of Brothers nelgected them, so many medals with the largest amount of medals by a minority. USA! USA! USA!

I grew up in a small ag town in California. My next door neighbor, Mr. Savala was a Korean War vet, my high school vice principal, Mr. Macías, Vietnam with PTSD, my schoolmate an friend, Mosqueda, a Ranger in the Gulf War, and his nephew, a Marine in Afghanistan and Iraq, with PTSD. All of them, in a tiny ag town in ag country.

I would too but, Hollywood's (semetic) producers would never recoup their, "Return on Investment" (RoI) from the movie. Only Hispanics would go see it, & even then, only Mexicanos/Chicanos would see it. However they're usually working, so they might catch it on reruns once it goes to tv. No $$$. Central Americans, Puerto Ricans (who look down on Mexicans because of citizenship), Cubans, Dominicans, etc. wouldn't care to see it. They don't get along with Mexicans/Chicanos. They don't bring in the same $$$ as Whites or Blacks. Movies are made to make $$$. If a movie is too niche, its not gonna make that much money, that's why it'll never get made. If they make Black American "war movies" its because they know they'll get their money back, more or less. If they make Black and Hispanic gangster crime movies, that's where they'll get their RoI.

@@Mexicano1768 For those readers that are too lazy to research...please, allow me to paraphrase. "Operation Wetback" was adopted by the Eisenhower Administration in the 1950's. During WW2, and part of the Korean War, the US had a program called the, "Brazero (Strong Arms) Program", that would allow men from 19 to 40 from Mexico, to enter the US, and work the jobs that had been vacated by the men drafted into military service. This was seen as a way to keep the economy strong and functioning. They didn't pay the Brazeros the same but, no one expected them to pay a, "dirty brown Messkin" for the same job as a white man did anyways. Once the wars were over, they expected the Mexicanos to just "go home" back to Mexico. Bye-bye. Well, those guys had started to build lives here, married, had kids, invested in banks, and bonds, and started businesses. They not only were invested in family, but also economically, so they stayed. "Operation Wetback" was created to vigorously kick them all-out like they never existed. They immediately ran into problems. A vast amount of these Mexican young men had married (TO WHITE WOMEN) and started families, and businesses. Their babies were now mixed Mexican, and White kids. The republican party government couldnt be viewed as "breaking apart" half-white families. Yes, the beginnings of the "Chicano Movement" of the 60's-70's, started with these babies. Of course, ever since then, immigration has been the rally-cry for all republicans. And it was a republican that invited the Mexicanos in the first place. Thank's Ike.

It’s important for all communities that make up the U.S. not feel invisible, that all of OUR contributions be counted and acknowledged. That is especially true of Mexican Americans who served as patriots for this country. Any demographic that feels invisible will respond with resentment as a consequence, that includes middle America whites, urban African Americans etc. Mexican Americans have contributed greatly to our war efforts and should be acknowledged for their service. Sadly, there are elements in the “left leaning CNN media” and the Fox News - Wall Street Journal “far right media” that don’t represent them.
