Restoring the Original Nintendo Game Boy Color - Retro Console Restoration & Repair - ASMR
After a while of searching, I was able to find a bad enough Game Boy for my restoration videos only for $1.
The console was sold as junk and for spares
Starting work Disassembling the device, disassembling the screen was not as easy as it was required, but it was somewhat difficult for fear that the screen would be broken
The Game Boy Color (commonly abbreviated as GBC) is a handheld game console, manufactured by Nintendo, which was released in Japan on October 21, 1998[5] and to international markets that November. It is the successor to the Game Boy and is part of the Game Boy family
I show you how to remove the yellowing from vintage plastics with Retr0bright method.

This time I restored the Ebay Junk Game Boy Color it is quite badly yellowed and dirty both inside and outside.
(Retrobrighting)To return the yellow color of the plastic to its true white color
What was used in this video?
1- Hair color-lightening cream contains 9% Hydrogen peroxide
2- Sodium bicarbonate
3- OXI Action
4- Isopropyl Alcohol
5- Sunlight was used as a natural source of ultraviolet rays.
How to Remove Yellow Stains from Plastic
Whether they're from foods, sunlight, or chemical reactions, yellow stains often show up on plastic. There are many ways you can try to tackle these stains, such as soaking the plastic in bleach, rubbing alcohol, or hydrogen peroxide
I Restored This Yellowed Joystick and Play New Games with it - Retro Gaming Restoration
Coat the plastic in hydrogen peroxide to fix discoloration. Hydrogen peroxide works well on plastics that have turned entirely yellow instead of in just one spot. Fill a plastic bag with enough hydrogen peroxide to cover the plastic. Stick the plastic in the bag of hydrogen peroxide and lay it out in direct sunlight. Wait 3-4 hours before rinsing it off with clean water.[5]
You can purchase hydrogen peroxide at a drugstore or big box store.
If you’re treating some sort of plastic mechanism, make sure you remove all the parts that aren’t plastic before putting them into the hydrogen peroxide.
You can also use an old toothbrush to scrub the hydrogen peroxide onto the plastic if desired
yellowed retro joystick. The model is QuickShot Python 5. The controller is yellowed

I cleaned the board with isopropyl alcohol. However I did not remove the rubber pads for the buttons. This was because those can be very fragile and it would be extremely hard to find a replacement. But as you can see in the end, I still had to remove them and clean the contacts for the buttons.

A shame so many vintage game consoles & handhelds are lost to neglect & damage. Good to know there are people who care enough to take the time & effort in restoration of said systems. 😁

This video brought on all the nostalgia. I recently found my old Game Boy Color. I was so happy to find it; it's the first I've bought with my first ever paycheck. I was so happy because my father never allowed us to play videogames and that was the first foray I've had with videogames. It required some repairs for it to work and the repairs are a bit steep for me since I'm currently unemployed, but one day I'll get it fixed.

It’s cool and all that you like restoring busted consoles to factory, but with the handhelds I’d definitely at least do a few quality of life upgrades on them. Like this video, I would have at least put in a better speaker, a backlit screen, and a rechargeable battery.

I had a cool idea for a much better, more “permanent” UV tank! Start with a fish tank of the appropriate, useable size. Clean the glass on the outside of the tank thoroughly, removing any and all residue (fingerprint grease, soup, label adhesive, or whatever is present, it’s very important to clean the surface of the glass first). Then, apply a silver mirroring paint (which available in many places that sell spray paint, as well as online) or, if you want to be fancy, a 2-part mirroring kit. You can cut the lid of the tank to accommodate the lights, of make your own from another sheet of glass of clear plastic, with the same mirroring technique used on the rest of the tank. It would be 100% reflective, and so more uniform and effective, and safer to use, as all IV light would be contained.
