hi everyone thanks for watching, someday i'll review all the 2006 third-person gangster games based on beloved licenses that all came to exist as a response to both the success of Grand Theft Auto and licensed games in the early-to-mid 2000s - here's a few i've looked at so far: Scarface: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b7uhmc2WrdWodoU.html Miami Vice: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ZtJ7orqSxtKldI0.html The Sopranos: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ppZyi651yJfXpGQ.html The Godfather: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/l5hhd5x_0qvddZc.html

@josephchandrasegaran276
@josephchandrasegaran276 2 жыл бұрын
Yes I do see your point, but the banning of this game is no surprise in Australia. Australia has shown a history of being very strict on video games treating them differently to movies. This is because the logic is that there is a difference to watching the film and playing the video game. In the film you are witnessing a character chopping off a guys ear off, while in the game you are actively doing it. It's really not that weird and this sort of thing would continue in Australia, especially with games like Syndicate (2012) and Soldier of Fortune: Payback (the third game in the series) that were banned for their violence. The classification board in Australia has also shown to be very rigid on the way drug use is portrayed in video games, with the most recent case being the final cut of Disco Elysium, though the game would eventually receive an R-Rating after the decision was appealed.

I remember when the Mission: Impossible N64 game came out and Ethan Hunt looked like a bland cross between Tom Cruise and Ben Affleck. That game was probably the first instance of where we had the technology to make the character look like the actor, but the studio couldn't afford the rights to the actor's likeness. It was a big joke back then, but now we just take it for granted that like, Laurie Strode in Dead by Daylight looks nothing like Jamie Lee Curtis. My understanding is that this goes back to George McFly in Back to the Future II. They replaced Crispin Glover with another actor, then put makeup on him so he'd look like Crispin Glover, and Glover sued them for stealing his face and not paying him. The whole legal story is more complicated than that, but I think that was the turning point where entertainment companies started to be more cautious about using likenesses without permission.

@@expendableindigo9639 Yeah, I remember the original take was supposed to be more grounded in the real world taking place in Chicago. Even with the current game there are a lot of hints as to what could have been. This game was actually my exposure to this movie, much like Rockstars The Warriors was to the 1979 classic. That said, The Warriors was infinitely better than this. Most of the cast returned, they added a whole plot leading up to the meeting aswell as an entire backstory for the characters, and you also get to play through the movie in the last quarter of the game! Most Levels were open ended so it encouraged exploration to find dealers and complete side objectives. You got the Warriors own hangout and a portion of Coney to explore and do side objectives in to earn new abilities in combat. The 2 player mode works like a dream and I can't tell you how many sleepless nights me and my brother had playing the Rumble mode on it. You even get a 2.5D beat em up game after beating the story that feels like a huge tribute to games like Double Dragon and Final fight. Id love to see you talk about this one soon!

Thanks for covering these type of games! I just wanted to say that it really broaden my horizon on some very obscure games that were overlooked at the time. But definitely cover The Warriors game!! For a game based on a movie and from Rockstar games themselves, it turned out to be a pretty big surprise all things considering! And if you haven't checked out the movie yet, please do so. Its basically a 2 hour chase scene like Max Max Fury road, but with gangs trying to chase this one gang down. Pretty intense for its time and I think both the movie and the game hold up so well to this day.

Michael Madsen agreed to voice his character in the game because the advance check cleared. I think he's a great actor, but he doesn't seem to turn anything down as long as long as the project doesn't mess with his plans for the weekend.

My absolute favorite game if this type is The Warriors video game. In complete honesty, it is my favorite video game of all time. Hope see your video on it! You got my sub for putting a spotlight on games I played a lot of and loved growing up!

I rented this as one of my free rentals when i worked at blockbuster. I remember it being a bit of a pain but ended up loving it, not a classic or anything just a ok few hours of gaming.

I got this game and loved it back in the day because I was a fan of the movie and it was the first video game adaptation of a Tarantino movie, but the gameplay really could and did get repetitive. It had a lot of potential and I wouldn't mind seeing it be remade with the likeness of the actors and their voices. The soundtrack was great of course.

The chief censor in New Zealand in 2006 had this big deal about 'justifiable violence" in media, and the hostage thing just didn't follow this idea which is why this was banned here (as well as Rockstar's Manhunt shortly later). Australia was just due to the lack of 18 rating as I recall. Doesn't look like we all missed out on that much at the time, but I've always had a curious interest in it.

If I recall correctly racking up Professional or Psychopath ratings determines how the game ends. In the movie Mr. Pink runs out of the warehouse and we hear shots. In the game he either is killed (psychopath) or escapes (professional). Great vid as always!

Man that hostage taking gameplay sounds so cool and interesting! It's a shame they didn't pull it off well. I'd love to see a modern take on that idea. I don't think I've ever heard of something like that with so much seeming depth (even if it's ultimately shallow in implementation here)
