Outbreak is the most down-to-earth story RE ever had. Just bunches of regular people try to survive the apocalypse and they might as well die trying. The song captures every mission perfectly. At the start, they didn't even realize what's about to happen, what's lurking underneath them until it's too late. They faced the doom and survived which gives them hope but as they proceed, they see how devastating the whole situation is and they are not likely to make it. They are either keep fighting hopelessly or meet a tragic end...

The tragic destiny of Raccoon City resides in this theme. September 1998. Incredible song, love it.

I finally got my hands on the old RE games and I started Outbreak for the first time the other night. This theme hooked me right away. It's so beautiful and yet perfectly encapsulates the horror of the situation. Perfect all around

This game was ahead of it’s time. I brought it in the U.K. so couldn’t play online. The series should 100% try another co-op online game now that the internet actually works.

This game deserves to be revisited with today's technology updates and fixes from the mishaps the original had. I think what made it struggle is the painful loading times and the very limited communications. With ps5 power, the loading times are now a thing in the past and as for communication, now a whole lot more emotes can be added. As for mics, I know many will play without using it. Mainly friends will use party chat but that's up to the players.

Amazing theme. The first "Outbreak" game was what got me into the "Resident Evil" franchise full time. Still a real shame we never got another "Outbreak" game, it'd be awesome if Capcom stop remaking the games after 3 and focus on a new "Outbreak" game. But oh well, at least we'll always have the duology.

This track lingers in my mind, and today I realized that it's very Bernard Herrmann-inspired. If anyone wants more of this, you should check out Herrmann's soundtrack to "Vertigo". Especially the track "Prelude and Rooftop", IMO.

A couple of years ago I discovered a film called 'The Legend of Goemon', and the music in that film was phenomenal. I didn't know until recently that the music for that film was the same guy that wrote this! Truly an unknown genius!

This is equal parts tragedy, hopelessness, hope and mystery in one tune, especially towards the end. Which I suppose represents the Raccoon City Incident well. A tragedy where most survivors were hopeless and likely barricaded in their homes or wherever was safe. Other survivors (like the J’s Bar eight) having the hope to make it through and ultimately uncovering some of the mystery as to what caused the disaster. I truly hope they remake Outbreak. Take all the scenarios from both entries and turn it into a cohesive story. When we play 2 and 3, we’re already well into the outbreak and most are dead or undead, whereas this game shows a more gradual path to Raccoon City becoming the city of the dead it was doomed to be. It felt alive, especially in the Outbreak, Hellfire and Wild Things scenarios where the police, fire department and army were working to save a city not quite lost.

This is one of the mighty 3! The 3 games that i enjoyed the most. EverQuest Online Adventures, Socom 2, and Outbreak files 1 and 2! (Technically Outbreak should have been 1 game, it was later split into 3 files, the 3rd going unreleased) I got my start with Atari 2600 and the PS2 online era was PEAK gaming for me. It was all downhill from there... well... aside from Left 4 Dead of course.
