why the adjustable slit is on the telescope end, after grating? we learnt to set the adjustable slit on collimator, just before the grating. the grating resolves the D1 D2 lines

if the adjustable slit width is =x. this amount light falls on the grating. grating has no of rulling per unit length =m. now grating resolves the d1 d2 lines in first order ( n=1) thus $R= \lambda / d \lambda = x m n$
