The problem with any of the pods that lack thrusters is you are then unable to make a large grid cargo container until you refine cobolt as large grid's smallest cargo container needs 4 metal grids. That is why both the small grid starting pods include thrusters, they actually include enough metal grids to make 2 large grid small cargo containers.

@@more_shifty An incomplete Large Hydrogen Thruster that contains the required amount of Metal Grids, is another option, especially for rusty/beatup craft.

The reason the kitsy moon has the wheel go up like a kick stand is to clear the way for the solar panel to get behind where the wheel sits so it can rest flat against side of body behind the wheel. Try putting up the kickstand first, then fold the solar panel, then turn off kickstand.

Interesting, didn't notice that. I did find out from them that it was partially so that the pod could fit in a standardized drop compartment of a larger ship.

note on small grid ore detector, even set to MAX range, it's no better than the hand drill.. so unless your using a modded detector is basically useless IMO....

34:32 configurable parameters allows you to raise this, I always have my speed limit at roughly one gigameter/second

I've always used it to start, but that's because it's very unbalanced. You get a crazy amount of resources compared to the other pods and you have access to mining every type of material from the start (being in space). I felt like a small grid version would be more in line with the others and a good change of pace.

@@more_shifty it only took 3 days to find my first Uranium deposit and 5 days to find a Platinum deposit. After playing 3 hours a day checking hundreds of asteroids. 😓

@@more_shifty that's why the large grid starting pod is so important for the very least making a small grid ship that has all of the capacity of the large grid pod because it's hard enough to find resources when you're on the clock.

In my limited experience with event controllers, they seem to be much more accurate than sensors for detecting voxels via altitude. I've built a couple of altitude-constrained hoverbikes with two separate event controllers detecting when the bike is below/above two altitudes. Extremely reliable. Another user, Rogers, created a Star Wars speeder bike years ago using two sensors to do the same thing -- great concept but poor sensor reliability. I applied their concept to the event controllers, works like a charm (only accidents were 100% operator error). Might help with replacing that voxel detecting sensor.

@@more_shifty That's awesome to hear! Yeah, I feel like the Warfare 2 and Automatons updates have done a ton to make the base game more enjoyable. I'm still playing with ~80 mods (mostly QoL, aerodynamic physics, etc. No major block mods), but the game has come a long way in the past couple years. I'm going through my old blueprint subs to clean and sort them, delete defunct ones, etc. I"m noticing how much easier the custom turret controller makes player-made turrets compared to even the most popular scripted solutions (Whiplash's scripts in particular), and now the AI blocks are streamlining player-made missiles/drones. Not perfect, but MUCH easier for basic functionality.

It would be really cool if the dev would add in a drop pod or starter ship picked like 6 space ships 6 different rovers and 6 different ships that would be awesome

It’s not 3 seconds to decelerate from 300m. That would suggest you need to lose 33m/s every second but that actually stops you at about 150m. It’s more like 6 seconds if deceleration is constant, so it’s always twice as long as the distance divided by velocity. You can prove it with the equations of motion. Edit: Sorry, I saw an opportunity to math and I took it.

All good, my phrasing was probably wrong in the moment. What I was thinking was that if I didn't accelerate (at all) I would hit the ground in about 3 seconds.

It's labeled as "detect asteroids" or something confusing, but yes they can. Apparently they made it more accurate than it was for this video with the most recent update too.

I saw the sensor bug as well recently, Event controller is the way to go until they fix it.

Eh, the moon pods need the gyros dropped and any "Space pod" without a closed cockpit is just bad. Youre not going to be flying through space taking micro meteors to the fave and you aren't lasting long in a survival situation in space without oxygen. Any pod that isnt piped is not practical in the slightest as they should have badic functionality out of the box. Its supposed to be a start not a casket.

Starting with 1k ice in an O2/H2 generator, and a bottle full, will last you a loooong time, oxygen tank might not be needed. (Also, our server isn't hardcore so respawning isn't the end.) Dropping the gyros on the moon pod would make it super rough. You'd have to drive extremely slow to keep from getting airborne, and if you tipped on any of the many jagged hills... Sounds like you want space to be easy and the moon to be hard. Everyone like something different, that's why I run these building events, to see what other people come up with.

These are... Awful. I mean...these may as well be endgame ships in a lot of cases. FFS, you can grind and rebuild most of the ship and get the ENTIRE progression done. It's stupid. Nothing about these is a "survival pod". These are, "I landed on a planet in a comfortable vehicle with everything I could possibly need." The only real "exceptions" are the ones that weirdly have open seats in vacuum, but a sealed cockpit on any other body. Like...wtf stupidity is that? If you're going to have open seats in space, then have ALL of them be open seats. Or, make the atmospheric one open, and the space ones closed. Or make them all closed. It's just, a nonsensically bizarre choice. Any survival pod should be a Survival Kit, H2/O2 Gen, and a non-control seat. Depending on the environment the pod is for, it can have a parachute (planetary-start only), hydrogen thrusters (small-size, one for each direction, space-start only), or wheels (moon-start only). A beacon, and some landing lights. Beyond that, anything else is "hull" and shaping blocks to make it look kinda nice, protect its innards, and possibly make it airtight if needed. And there shouldn't be too many such blocks, and they should only be light-armor blocks at most. No blast door blocks, no heavy armor, no interior or decorative blocks. Most of the pods in this array of options give FAR too many resources. You should start with practically nothing, and have to bootstrap your way to awesomeness with pain and suffering. If you want to make it easier on yourself, turn up the inventory sizes and device speed and yield. Don't just hand players everything they could ever need from the start. Just make sure they've got the absolute essentials to not f-ing die immediately. After that, it's their own ass. THEN maybe make it look kinda cool. Edit: Also...the pods need to be free of any DLC blocks at all. Yes, you're making these for a private server, but if you post them to the workshop (which you should, so people can decide for themselves), then they need to be accessible to all, regardless of which DLC they have or have not purchased. Same as not using modded blocks. Oof...

The dlc is only required to place the blocks, but if you’re pasting a ship or spawning in a pod then it doesn’t matter
