Start with 5 ft = 50 kg Then add 2 x the inches left over Example: 5' 8'' = 50 kg + 8(2) = 50kg + 16 = 66kg This is quick and approximate math and its what's being taught in my Kettering book.

Yo thank you so much for the help man you’re a blessing . A trick I do for the 6’0 + patients when trying to find IBW for example : if the male is 6’4 I just multiply the 4 by itself which gives me 16. If they are 6’5 I multiply the 5 by 5 which will give me 25. Etc etc you’ll always get the answer in the parenthesis.

“Shortcut”: IBW (kg)=50+(2x inches over 5’) Then add a zero to end of kg (this is the max Vt) Range: Then kg/2 = min Vt Ex: I’m 5’7 sooooo 50+(2X7)=64kg Add a zero- 640kg 640/2= 320kg My mechanical vent range is 320-640 Learned this shortcut from Kettering and is a good “guesstimate” for Vt setting on vent..so far with all my practice test it’s been working.

Thank you for all of these videos! Very helpful for me as a recent grad. I think the reason why we start at PEEP of 2-6 is because when the patient is intubated, it takes off the normal physiologic PEEP which is around 2ish. Ive read it somewhere, but correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm really hoping someone can pls answer this within several hrs. Question: When setting up an aerosol face mask or ATM, AFT, etc....with a SVN inline..how would this be set up? Would I attach the Svn clear tubing to an O2 flowmeter or utilize the Med air..at 6-8 L/min? If I use an access O2 flowmeter how would this affect Fio2? I understand that w/COPD PT ..I would utilize the med air.. I hope this question makes sense the way I explained it. Thank you ahead of time.

Thanks, yugioh! I'm not aware of a different formula for less than 5 ft. Same formula but the second part becomes negative and works down from 105 for female or down from 106 for male. 105+5(58-60) = 105+5(-2) = 105-10 = 95 pounds IBW for a 4'10" female.

So if it is 60" or less, you simply leave it at 106+6/2.2? Or 105+5/2.2? So the lower end is always fixed to either 50.9 or 50? Then of course multiply to get your volumes...
@mik2585
@mik2585 2 жыл бұрын
Or are you still subtracting - so, like for a 4'8" female - 105+5(56-60) --> 105+5(-4) --> 105+ -20 = 85 --> 85/2.2=38.6 --> so initial Vt would range from 231-308ml

Sorry, I can't understand why so much initial precision, even requiring a calculator to obtain a value with decimals, if you end up multiplying by 6 or 8 to get the final value. This last calculation grossly modifies the previously obtained values.

I would have to go back and watch the video, but if it's just talking about IBW, then you would calculate IBW based on 72 inches. 106 + 72 = 178 / 2.2 = 81 kg means we would target a tidal volume in the range of 486 - 648 mL.
