I might be assuming too much here but I think a big part of it is bias. A lot of people that I see who claim Valentine is a good guy tend to be American themselves, so I think the idea that his motive is to try to make the United States a utopia makes his goal seem noble to them. I feel like if SBR took place in a different country and Valentine had the exact same motive, focusing on whatever different country the part takes place in (let's say China, Afghanistan, Mexico, etc) there would probably be less people claiming his actions to be justified and heroic

Another thing about Diavolo's death: he's implied to be supernatural since birth. He was born with supposedly unexisting father from a pregnancy that lasted 2 years, and lived in a body as a secondary personality. Also he killed his own mother, his girlfriend, and tried to kill his daughter, burned a village in his youth, made the biggest criminal organization in Italy which sells drugs to anyone including children and is named after the devil himself. I would never be confident enough to say he doesn't deserve to be inprisoned in eternal torture, something that could be called "hell". He is purposefully created as this extremely mysterious character with vague origins, he might as well be something completely differemt from a normal human being, much worse then we think.
@wv5853
@wv5853 Ай бұрын
People with DID often forget there pasts or backstories I’ve heard so Maybe all the traumatic parts were erased and his backstory is told from Doppios perspective witch is why so many important details are lift out. He’s kinda meant to be mysterious and unknown events suit his character and his disorder or theoretically his possession. Either way I’ve never thought of that perspective before but the unknown part of Diavolo’s character is probably my favorite part of him.
@megadangerman3170

Interesting take on diavolos torture, however I still believe that eternally dying is just a little too much for a murderer who is "named after the devil", but only really is an above average mafia boss who sells drugs to kids. I think nothing a villain does will ever compute to infinitely dying unless they eternally tortured someone themselves. When it comes to Diavolo carrying assassinations on his own, he tends to make things quick and painless for people as he cares more about the success of his organization rather than making people suffer. I think a lot of people dehumanize him because of his allegory to the devil and the classic "selling drugs to kids," along with the fact that he tends to avoid fate, but if anything I think he's just as human because of his natural fear of failing his goals and the lengths he will go to in order to succeed in growing his organization and his control. YES, I think diavolo is evil but I do not see him as "true evil" in any way.
@GrandMasterEdge777
@GrandMasterEdge777 19 күн бұрын
@@megadangerman3170 that's understandable, I get where you're coming from, and I believe you have a good point. I respect your opinion. Just to defend my view again though, in response to your comment which seems to be devaluing a bit what I meant; he's not "just" an above average mafia boss who's "named after the devil". He is a mysterious man born from no known father, from a 2 year pregnancy a woman had inside a prison, and lives as a secondary (secretly dominant personality) who commits the most horrible crimes since his youth, with no regards to humanity at all. He doesn't always kill quickly and efficiently too like you said, as seen when he buries his own mother alive with stitched mouth. He might as well be a real devil. We know supernatural concepts exist in Jojo, so his extremely mysterious origin which is completely unique to him, could be implying he's not even human. Whether he is or not, is not even completely confirmed when you consider all his unique characteristics. But even if we exclude that in specific and come back to the standard idea that he is still a normal human being despite his strange origins, I still see him as truly evil, like Speedwagon says about Dio "he isn't evil by circumstances, he was born evil." You might not see him as "true evil" but as Jotaro pointed out earlier in the series "evil is when you use the weak for your own gains" and Diavolo's entire life is about that. The powerful boss making literally everyone his pawns, even family and lovers, with zero regard for their lives and human dignity. They're either a step for his glory or deserving of discarding, doesn't matter what type is used. He only brings about disgrace for people, many times even inside his organization, for the convenience of maintaining power and profit while being completely faceless. If he were to stay alive longer, he would most likely continue to be this source of a tortuous life for many people. Of course ignoring all the evil assassins that torture people for fun that he employes like Cioccolata, is totally up to the individual, but completely negating his blame on that would be conveniently turning a blind eye for his responsibilities as boss. All other main villains and other horrible characters are humanized enough to be shown struggling and suffering on life's hands either in their backstories or in the face of defeat when opposing other characters. But then again, which type of human being would be deserving of eternal torment like mitologies and religions always talks about will always be complex topic in which the answer differs a lot depending on who you ask. At the end of the day I'm just one more in the group who prefers not to take time lamenting the endless suffering of someone who haven't shown even one good quality at least as human being in the entirety of his participation in the story, instead of the group who still reminds him as a normal human being, who did evil trought life, but not the worst evil he could, and is still deserving of compassion at least to be forgiven from eternal punishment. Which goes back to why I understand your comment and respect your opinion. Eternity is a long time after all. I'm just not capable of being compassionate towards Diavolo enough to oppose his already decided judgement, as I see him as an implied devil much more then a normal human being, figuratively and possibly even literally like I mentioned before. I don't usually make lengthy comments, so I'm grateful for whoever reads them all the way trought. I hope it's good food for thought.

In a way, Fate was testing them for the trails ahead. The stone was the means to sharp them for the fight ahead, or an easy path to spare them trail they aren't ready for. Divaolo grasp on itatly was iron grip and King Crimson ability of cheating Fate. The only way good to break it was through torment, trails, overcoming, and sacrifice. And it wasn't going to be easy. Breaking the stone demonstrates the length gang will have to go through to defeat Divaolo. If they couldn't beat the stone, they certainly couldn't beat Divaolo. With Giorno awaken his stand, mark a change the unavoidable battle of good vs evil. Consider Bruno death, if he was loyal to Divaolo, Giorno would had to kill him. I feel like a lot of people who overglorify Valentine seem to miss the entire point of Johnny's gun test at the end of their fight. Johnny essentially called Valentine on his bluff. That, if he really believed all of the patriotic, help my nation rhetoric he spews, he could pick up the gun without any tricks or betrayals, that he would let another version of Gyro and himself live in peace. And Valentine couldn't even manage that. Because for all of his bluster about his patriotism, about his love for his country, he is on top of that a self absorbed, deluded narcisist. He doesn't just want the corpse to protect his nation, he wants it to have his nation (and by extension, himself) be seen as the peak of the world. And he doesn't care how many people have to die for that to be accomplished. Letting Johnny and Gyro live would be meaning he failed, he lost, that he had to give up something. That one guy's take about Dr. Who frustrates me on a fundamental level. The 2005 reboot was specifically written TO BE an entry point for new viewers. By that point in time, the last primary Dr. Who media to exist was a TV movie from 10 years ago that was not critically well received, and the last thing before that was when the original run of the show was cancelled in 1989. The show had been off the air for almost two decades. For all that most fans were concerned, Dr. Who was cancelled before the 2005 series came out. A good portion of fans who were just getting into Dr. Who through the reboot were not even born during the Seventh or Eighth Doctor's runs. New Who was written specifically to be both a soft reboot for older fans to see how the story continued after the original run's cancellation, and also an original story for new fans to jump into without feeling the need to be caught up on 30 years worth of British sci-fi. New Who re-introduces elements from the original series in a well-paced way that is a fun reference if you know what it is, but also basically expects that 80% of the audience has never seen it before. For instance, there's a single episode that brings back one of the Doctor's old companions from the 70's, as well as having a bunch of other references and cameos from that era. If you've seen the Fourth Doctor's run, its a huge fanservice fest. If you haven't, the show is just like "Oh, this is a girl the Doctor used to know a long time ago. Don't worry about it." and it works. Compare this to SBR, which began publication less than 11 months after the end of Stone Ocean. It is reasonable to believe that most people who perhaps started getting into JoJo through SBR, through a Jump subscription for example, were at least aware of the series at that point, and may have even known someone reading it up to that point, since it had only been on hiatus for about a year. Dr. Who is also a show in which it heavily incentivizes skipping parts. Whenever a new fan asks where to start with Dr. Who, the most common answer I hear is "Start with the 2005 series". But some people even say "Start with whoever the newest Doctor is." and I can't say I entirely disagree with either of those suggestions. When it comes to New Who, as long as you're starting from a certain showrunner's first story, you'll be fine. Nobody tells you to go back and start with William Hartnell and watch every episode meticulously in order. Dr. Who stories are very episodic. Sure, most episodes are part of a three-to-seven-episode-long arc, but most of those arcs are standalone. I've even heard some people say to start with the 2005 series, and if you start to get bored and wanna see something different partway through to just go back and watch a story or two from Tom Baker's run. And I don't hate that idea either. I hear people all the time say "Oh, you can skip Part X, because Part Y doesn't spoil anything from that part", as if "spoilers" are the only thing holding someone back from reading a story in the order it was written. Like, as a Halo fan, yeah, Halo Reach doesn't spoil the trilogy or anything, but if you're interested in the plot, you should play the trilogy first. JoJo is the same way. While Part 7 might not spoil Part 6, and Part 6 might not spoil Part 5, and Part 5 might not spoil Part 4, you miss the natural evolution of themes throughout the series. By Part 7, JoJo really becomes a theological thinkpiece about humanity's role in the universe, and how mathematics affect nature, and the value of a human soul, and how fate defines our actions. That stuff is all hinted at as early as Part 4 (honestly as early as Part 1 if you're paying attention), before it really doubles down in Part 5. Part 6 really takes those ideas hammers them home before I feel that it truly bears fruit in Part 7. Sure, you CAN skip to Part 7 and not be confused as to what's going on, or have major plot revelations from the first 6 Parts spoiled, but it's much more satisfying to see it happen naturally. In a semi-recent Scott the Woz video on his side channel, his friend is explaining the plot of Phantom Blood to him, and Scott asks if it's jarring to go from a series about Victorian-era vampires to "Bugs Bunny" (referencing Bohemian Rhapsody, and how at the time the vide was recorded, many fans thought that the anime would substitute Bugs Bunny instead of Mickey Mouse for legal reasons). His friend says 'no', because it's such a natural progression you don't even think about it. That is now my biggest example as to why one should not skip parts in JoJo.

It's literally impossible to not skip parts in Doctor Who. The show is so old that entire episodes are missing from the BBC's archives. The fact that it's not just yellow but clear yemlow at the morning, strong or more brownish yellow at the evening, blue but with golden clouds at the sunset, and purple and dark at night. There are also people who are willing to sympathize with him over his tragic backstory enough to gloss over at least some of his more personal crimes. Generally these sorts of arguments gloss over what Griffith actually reveals about himself with his actions towards the end of the Golden Age and only listen to the self-aggrandizing speeches he makes where he tells on himself to some extent, but doesn't quite acknowledge being an arrogant, entitled sociopath who just spent a lot of time unable to respond to setbacks by attacking those around him.

As a Doctor Who fan who started with the 2005 series quite recently in fact I completely agree with your analysis and want to add my own two cents. The main difference between Steel Ball Run and the 2005 Series is that the latter was specifically written as a Reboot meant to reintroduce Doctor Who to a new audience after a decades long hiatus. The show also adds intrigue for returning viewers by changing up the established status quo in a significant way. SBR doesn't do that and as you pointed out actually builts heavily on the concepts introduced in the previous parts. The only reason people mistake it for a Reboot is that it features alternative characters based on Part 1. The Part I would compare the most to Series 1 of NuWho is ironically Part 3 since it builds up on Part 1+2 while also shaking up the status quo by introducing Stands into the series.

I think a lot of people fail to understand the meaning behind gyro's sacrifice for the child and write off his character as a whole simply because the child is stated to have died later on. When i first read it with the expectation that it was so amazing, it would blow every part out of the water, i came out of it a little disappointed. But when i reread it without those sentiments/expectations, i enjoyed it a lot more. I also feel like this thought process applies to other parts, too, since some parts have this occur in the opposite way where people blindly rush through them to get to another, "better", part. YES! I was too was thinking the reasons for the stands being so weird and unorthodox was supposed to be a sort of biblical allusion, what with bible stories having unnatural occurrences happening. Like a baby is created by a bunch of souls and becomes a stand after merging with a bone of a dead vampire and a priest. A man made people turn to snails just by having them contact rainbows with subliminal messages. Meteors from the sky. Rods, which technically don't even exist. Dementia. Girl turns to string. Memories being taken. Just Dragon's Dream. The list goes on, and the funny thing is that i see people turn away from the bible the same way they turn away from part 6 due to weird abilities displayed. And the crazy thing is said weird things tend to be metaphors for something.

2:55 I feel like it also goes down to simplicity of the words. For most people Ripple is a harder word to use and remember than Hamon and for a lot of non-native speakers, both words are likely meaningless. When it comes to Kaiten and Spin - it's other way around. Spin is easier to pronounce and remember and it's also a much more common word. Being released at different times and different (fan)-translation styles - also probably affected it. 4:50 We had few stand users that would be nice as Hamon users, mostly due to the nature of their stands. Like Dragon's Den for me feels like a logical example, where stand isn't necessarily the main power of its user. We also had few other stand users, whose power was more area/effect based or who had drone-stands - not necessarily actively offensive. I mean, we kinda got that in part 7 tbh. Spin is a similar concept to Hamon and for many users - it's a secondary power or a power that buffed their stand abilities. We could have more stand users that fought alongside their own stand. Or stand users with more non-combative, but useful abilities that could fight by themselves when needed.

He does not care if their happiness goes beyond what is fair and is at the expense of others. In fact, it sometimes seems that Valentine *prefers* it be at the expense of others, as that would make the United States the greatest country. Or they didn't watch Phantom Blood at all and just wanted to complain about something not having Stands or Bubble Bae Caesar in it. (Like Jonathan didn't pull some stunts just as crazy as Joseph's own gimmicky stuff, I swear Viva Reverie got it right summarizing PB as this game of one-upmanship between two grade schoolers playing make-believe, with all the balls to the wall insanity that involves.)

I think its because stands are better then hamon imo. Pre egypt had some good fights but it was a slog to get through. When the crusaders get to egypt, the pacing and fights become better. Part 1 had nothing interesting about it, it was just generic. Its not bad, just ok. This isnt to say part 3 is great it has issues. Its just compared to both i prefer part 3

Same. I actually watched Part 1 and 2 and thought they were good, but once I started Part 3, I just couldn't stand (hah) the "villain" of the week formula, so I switched to the manga for better pacing. Best decision ever, to read the manga for the rest of the series. (I also ended up heavily disliking Part 5 back when I read it, but the anime made me like it!)

People just don't like part 1 because it's the most tragic and serious part and most people just watch JoJo for the memes. Not saying part 1 doesn't have the trademark bizarreness and some funny moments but it had way less of it than say, Part 3 or Part 4.

I think that might also be why part 6 is very disliked as well. Like i see that both part 1 and part 6 are usually the parts people recommend skipping, people tend to hate or outright shit on, or just plain overlooked. Both end with the protagonists dying too. But it's a shame cuz i feel there's a good amount of nuance and i admittedly like how bleak those parts are as they lead to interesting conflict for the characters. It isn't just punch, move on, punch move on and suceed on your goals. Even in physical fights, the protagonists tend to lose something or not be able to prevent all conflict from happening.

@@KikoElGatito I don't think so, anime only, I think part six had weird pacing which is the biggest reason for disliking it, I thought it was just mediocre and not very memorable, I don't think it ever really had any stand out moment compared to other parts despite the general spectacle. Like part two fights against Kars and Whammu, were clear standouts, part three, Darby and DIO, part 1, Dio's fights, part 4 Kira fights, part 5, Risotto, Bucciarati (I'd want to include more from five, Ghiaccio or Prosciutto but oh well). I can't think of anything other than Pucci's fight against weather and Pucci's final. (my own comparison of watched parts for reference, 2>5>1=4>3>6)
@KikoElGatito
@KikoElGatito Ай бұрын
@@voxsvoxs4261 I mean, imma be honest with you, but the fact that you said you're an anime only fan shows that you're lacking a lot of context, but that actually ain't on ya. That's actually on David Pro cuz aside from Part 1, Part 6 was done really dirty in the anime. Like A LOT was cut out, so characters personalities weren't properly displayed and the plot was more out of focused. Sure there were some stuff added to it, but it's secondary to what was cut. The surprising thing is that Part 6 is actually longer than Part 5 in the manga, yet gets an episode less than Part 5. Part 5 realistically speaking would have been like a 30 episode anime, but well, the thing is that Part 5 wasn't popular outside of Japan before the anime released. But David Pro really did put effort into making Part 5 and that effort shows as now it's well liked world wide instead of just it's home country. Shame that they dropped the ball hard on Part 6, as you would expect that they would up the quality, especially since this is the final part of the original universe. Instead, we get overtly reused assets (notice how a lot of Stone Ocean merch uses the same goddamn Jolyne.png), a watered down plot, and bland animation with out of place CGI here and there. What sucks is that David Pro had the money as Netflix gave them a huge budget and time constraints weren't placed (you CAN blame Netflix for the dropping batches), so yeah, kinda don't want David Pro adapting Part 7(for all i care, they can continue making those crappy Rohan Kishibe spin-offs). The lack of care is evident in the blu-rays even as all that was changed was lighting. Then there's that Stone Ocean was assigned a B-Team, which is a red flag as b-teams typically consists of less than experienced workers. Dunno if you heard, but the reasoning behind the hiring competent guest animators like grand guerilla later on in the anime was because of this. With all of that being said (sorry, but I really don't like part 6 anime), if you liked part 1 based off the anime alone, you really should check out the manga as there's a good amount of content cut of, more than the aforementioned part 6, and it's a very good read!

jojo fans are the type of people who watch the main villain: 1. Sell drugs to children 2. Order Chiocollata to kill Gelato e Sorbet in probably the most gruesome and brutal way possible 3. Attempt to kill his own daughter solely to keep his indentity safe 4. Kill Bruno Bucciarati (which is later "revived" by Giorno's power and his own will, but ultimately deteriorates as the part progresses until his death) 5. Kill Abbachio (Fr this time) 6. Severely debilitate Polnareff and cut any contact he could have with Jotaro 7. Kill Narancia (also fr) 8. Be the main reason on why Doppio's life was "bad" and the they get mad when he gets punished.

He has died, and will die, for more seconds than he was ever alive, for more atoms than he ever touched, and far more times than he broke fate. I’m not saying he shouldn’t be punished, but at some point torture becomes cruel. Diavolo reaches that point no matter what you think is adequate for him.
@kyupiangel90
@kyupiangel90 Ай бұрын
I think the point made in the video is very strong: Diavolo COULD SCAPE FATE. Meaning that, even if he was dethrowned as a whole mafia's boss, he would still be able to scape whatevee punishment was sent his way, thanks to his very specific stand, that makes him able to scape any situation by re-positioning himself elsewhere. The ONLY way to punish a guy this cruel, insensitive, and inhumane, is with a punishment he would not be able to scape. ¿It was the most humane way? No. But it was the only way to stop him from being a monster... A enclosure of fate itself that was not able to be controlled by him. (Like, imagine someone like him with the power to manipulate, not his fate only, but others' fates as well, thanks to make his stand more powerfull with the arrow… He would become a DIO 2.0 VERY quickly.)

Nah. It is still insane that Diavolo has had the worst fate in all of fiction. Yes, the point is he tried dominating fate so he was punished by fate. But morally speaking, he deserves a torturous death. NOT ALL OF THEM! Like even his will resets to zero: He can't even get accustomed to how painful it is. It just looks extra weird given he's not even the most evil villain in the series, not even the most evil in his own part.

While you could absolutely start with the original Kamen Rider show, starting from any of the other series is completely fine as well. And even with crossovers and extra media, they often have debatable canonicity to the series involved.

One of the most confusing things to me that people who are getting into the series say to me is that they do not care about Caesar's death in part 2, and I wanted to express that this video covers exactly why I think it's one of the best in the series. With the overall themes being a celebration of humanity, I feel like Caesar has always perfectly embodied that theme in his final moments (I mean he quite literally talks about the human spirit in his whole monologue) People say that Caesars death isn't impactful because we only know him for a few episodes, but I have always strongly disagreed. In general, I think death in JoJo is by far one of the strongest points of the series overall. Every major death to me (in the cast of heroes) is extremely well executed, impactful, and feels so important and meaningful to the overall story and advancement of its plot and themes.

I wonder if American fans don't see Valentine as a good guy because his actions are to benefit America. In another wording, they might be more inclined to find him evil if he was Japanese or German or British. This particular opinion has always been especially concerning to me when you apply the way these people look at him to real-life politicians. But even without bringing it into real life, it’s patently ridiculous to think that the man who wants to redirect all misfortune onto the rest of the world for the sole benefit of his own country (and by virtue of being the president of that country, himself) is a good person, even if you somehow ignore all of the murder and SA and other flat out evil stuff he does that just can’t be justified. A hot take stemming from the CLAMP take, I think Jolyne’s stand ability being somewhat of a fusion between Star Platinum and Hierophant Green and that it’s specifically stated to smell like soap (which Jota’s stand is named after) is Araki’s way of making Jolyne directly relatable to female Jojo fans but as a way of almost canonizing Jota. It’s part of why I love Araki’s freedom in new writers adding to the JoJo canon nowadays, and part of why I love Jolyne (and why Jodio is ranking really high too)

For Ripple/Hamon vs. Spin/Kaiten one thing that could distinguish them is their respective in-series origins. Hamon is introduced to us as a rather "Eastern" style, with its roots (that we're given through Zeppeli) being traced to India and it being a breath technique which is more aligned with Oriental philosophy, while Spin is specifically a technique of "Western" influence through Italy and Western concepts like the exploration of the Golden Ratio that was done most primarily by European academics. I mean, it's not really a hard and fast because under that logic Hamon would be using a Hindi or Sanskrit term and Spin would be using Italian or Latin but that the sort of "East-West vibe" can subtly nudge people to using one of the two generally recognized terms more.

5:36 I'd like to add to the Road Roller thing by pointing out that that DIO using the Road Roller *_actually did have a point_* and it wasn't a completely random thing. In the final fight of Part 3, it became a central point that Jotaro needs to get in close enough to DIO to obliterate him with Star Platinum's punches. However, DIO was strategically countering him using The World's powerful punches, the Time Stop, and long-range throwing knives. So the Road Roller is actually a way for DIO to avoid Star Platinum's range while still launching his own powerful attack at the same time. Note that it was legitimately a good enough attack that Jotaro could only escape/counter it by doing his own Time Stop, which DIO couldn't possibly have predicted. 13:15 And yes, Diavolo's fate is indeed justified. Yes, characters like Cioccolata are probably worse, but *1)* that doesn't change the fact that Diavolo nonetheless still deserved (just because his crimes arent' as extreme doesn't mean that he doesn't deserve the death loop). And *2)* unlike those other horrible villains in the series, GER's death loop was one of the only things that could _ACTUALLY STOP_ Diavolo. Araki himself explained that King Crimson is such an overpowered Stand with its ability to avoid Fate that only something that constantly rewinds and nullifies continued actions (AKA a loop with no room for continuation) could reliably defeat Diavolo. It was a mix of Diavolo very much deserving it, as well as being the only feasible way for the characters to actually take him down for good.
