Are you looking for info on how to remove grease stains at restaurants or gum from sidewalks? Watch this video to learn how to effectively clean up grease using a degreaser chemical and a pressure washer surface cleaner to remove the grime from concrete. After you watch this video you’ll have the knowledge to land these types of jobs and clean them up with confidence.
FAQ: Do I need a hot water pressure washer machine to remove grease? The answer is no. You can successfully clean up grease with the right chemicals and a cold water pressure washer.
In this video, I provide pressure washing service to a repeat customer at his restaurant. I cleaned up grease stains and gum from the main entrances, sidewalks and dumpster pad.
Here's a step-by-step guide to the cleaning process:
Degreasing: To neutralize the grease, I applied a degreaser chemical using a 2-gallon pump-up sprayer.
Dwelling Time: I allowed the degreaser to dwell for about 10 minutes, giving it time to break down the grease effectively.
Second Coat for Stubborn Stains: For areas with thicker grease stains, I applied a second coat of the degreaser to ensure thorough cleaning.
Surface Cleaning: I used a surface cleaner to thoroughly clean all the treated areas, removing any remaining grease and grime.
Gum Removal: To remove any gum residue, I used a white tip nozzle or a 40-degree nozzle. Make sure you are using the corresponding 40 degree nozzle to your pressure washing machine.
Rinsing: I rinsed off the concrete surfaces to remove any remaining debris.
Job Site Presentability: As a final touch, I cleaned up as much of the parking areas as possible, ensuring a tidy and presentable job site.

Good point about using a pump up sprayer, if its not a daily thing. Ive used the ryobi battery sprayer pulling from a 5-gallon bucket for chem on large areas of rust removal.

I think I know which one you're talking about. Yeah next season I'm definitely going to do research and buy a small battery powered sprayer. Actually you just gave me an idea. I'll get a 5 gallon bucket and put a small pump on top and modify the wiring to a tool battery. 🤓

I clean a lot of restaurants and their outdoor patios i find myself using the Zep Concentrated Industrial Purple Degreaser #R45815 the most. A 5 gallon square jug runs just under $50. It works great on flat surfaces and patios and outdoor furniture. I'm not a big fan of buying peoples specialty mixes for $50/gallon, more power to them i suppose but if you look hard enough you will find any kind of commercial cleaner known to man. They've been cleaning stuff and making cleaners for 100yrs, just not advertised to the general public. I'll show up to an outdoor restaurant patio with outdoor furniture of course. I will pull out my AR45 (I don't like wasting time with a garden hose). I will shoot everything with about 3% SH either from a batch mix or the proportioner setup. Everything like furniture, cement surface, building side if its right there connected to the patio, railings and those spots where all the assholes think its ok to put their cigarettes out on the build next to where you enter the building. While thats soaking away. Oh, i usually do this around 6am because the patios open at 10am give or take. So i don't have to worry about the sun cooking the SH into the furniture and getting flash oxidization. Then i pull out my real pressure washer, its a bit powerful, its a Simpson 4400psi 4.2gpm belt drive commercial pressure washer. I proceed to blast all the chairs and tables and they come out squeaky clean every time. The SH is just doing its thing on the cement surfaces. Don't really need Surfactant doing this but sometimes I use it in the SH, sometimes I don't. Now i go and hook my degreaser to the proportioner and squirt all the cement surfaces and building wall with my Zep Industrial at about 6% with no surfactant. I squirt it until it comes out a bit foamy like i used surfactant that way i know i have plenty of Zep on the cement on top of the SH that already did its job. Then I pull out the big boy toys. Whisperquiet Mondo 49" and the Whisperquiet 19" Extreme duty surface washers. 26.5hp Kohler EFI spinning my belt driven Legacy 3600psi/10.4gpm . Then i rinse and after an hour or three the floors look fantastic. I get .40/sf for the surface washing and an average of $10/table/4 chairs. For me the average patio size is about 2500sf, one is almost 6k/SF.

Thank you for the comment and for being a subscriber! You do not need a hot water machine. Ask anyone who cleans grease in the kitchen and they will tell you it’s about the chemical or cleaner they use. It’s the same concept with pressure washing - sure hot water can probably help, but it’s not a requirement. As far as what degreaser to user, I’d start with one you can purchase at you Home Depot or Menards. Especially if these aren’t your daily service jobs. You don’t want to purchase an expensive chemical online and rely on the many complications it comes with like price, delivery time, amount, or expiration date. A 4 gallon machine can definitely get the job done, but you want to set a goal to upgrade to an 8 GPM or higher in the future. Time is money. 💪🏽

One of the main reasons I started getting into this is cause i need more flexability.Cant work in the extreme heat anymore.I mow grass and the weather has been such a killer!Up and down roller coaster ride.BTW-Ive seen guys do entire roof jobs with a pump up sprayer.Wonder if a turbo tip would get that concrete a little better?
@northernwash
@northernwash 8 ай бұрын
Yes, being your own boss you can manage it how you see fit, however you still have to make sure the customer is happy. Entire roof with a pump up sprayer sounds not smart. And the concrete was clean. It's just normal wear and tear. The only way to get it uniform looking is to do a acid wash but that's not necessary. It's a high traffic area. Hope you succeed with your pressure washing! 💪🏾

Would you recommend a 3000 psi pressure washer with 2.4gpm pressure washer for dumpster pad cleaning, I know 3000psi is good enough but I'm concerned about the gpm will it leave streaks or cause any other issues, can I even use a surface cleaner with those specs etc?
@northernwash
@northernwash 8 ай бұрын
I would not recommend 2.4 gpm unless you have a hard budget, and even then I'd say you're better off saving until you can afford at least a 4 gpm machine. The ideal machine would be 8 gpm at 2500 psi. Streaks can be cleaned with either SH or degreaser - depending if it's organic based or grease based. Hope that helps. If you only have access to a 2.4gpm machine you can still surface clean, but it will take you longer. But don't let that stop you. Anything is possible.

I agree with guys asking about the degreaser. Can you look at the label and read what exactly is in it ? Sodium Hydroxide ? And what %? This is the information we need. Otherwise it’s a waste of time for us beginners trying to learn the trade.. Just hide nothing and you will have more subscribers who are grateful to you..That’s my honest feedback…

It's concentrated zep industrial purple degreaser. There is sodium hydroxide but if you look at the label it doesn't say what percent it is. It also has other ingredients.

That’s not weird. If you look at different brands you’ll notice maybe half the brands give you percentages and others don’t. Just how it is. If you’re doing a lot of degreasing buy sodium hydroxide and mix your own at your desired strength and it’ll also save you money. If you don’t do much having some store bought degreaser is fine.
