Restoration of a rare rc race car, destined for the race track!

This barn find car was purchased as part of a joblot over a year ago and has sat in a sorry state ever since, with its race proven history it was begging to be sympathetically restored to retain some of its patina, while being given a fresh coat of paint and mechanically prepared for battle on the race track once again!
When this Schumacher KF2 build is finished later in the week, It will be pit against a more modern lineup at Modeltune Raceway… will it run? will it survive? Will it be able to hold its own against cars decades younger??

I never got to try mid motor 2wd before I fell out of RC, but I love the concept. Be sure to try both low inertia and high inertia mode, I've read those can make a difference for traction and midair pitch control! What this means is to reverse your motor direction then change your gearbox setup with an extra idler so that your engine and wheels turn either together in the same direction (high inertia, more control, more traction due to weight transfer), or in opposite directions (low inertia, less bite, less control, but possibly faster direction changes or something).

Wow! What a great reply 😃 I’ve just ordered a lot more parts for it, I’ll fit them in the next video, I’m really looking forward to getting it out on track 😊

@@TimsRcsurgery Yeah, before team associated discontinued it, their mid motor setups were 3 gear and 4 gear "stand up" which had the motors pushed as close to the rear as possible. Then they came out with the B6.1 or 6.2 and they discontinued the 4-gear standup shortly after, to instead offer a 3-gear laydown (most forward motor placement), 3-gear layback (normal), and 3-gear standup (most rearward), but all of these had the motors turning in the opposite direction of the wheels just like a normal rear engine setup. Now they seem to have also discontinued the 3-gear standup, as well, leaving essentially no options left for low-bite tracks. Though it'd be interesting if they came out with a 4-gear laydown or something to compensate.

It's funny how a bit of elbow grease and a few new parts turns a sh1t box into something worth keeping. I look forward to seeing it in track T

When I first seen it in the joblot my intention was just to dump it without even looking at it, but when I looked at it a few days ago it begged me to give it a chance 🤣

Nice, looks like its got a few alloy hop ups fitted. Ive no idea if these where extra or come with the kit ? Ive been tempted to bag one of these and try my hand at modern racing. But got my hands full with vintage races at the mo.

It’s hard to fit it all in… I’ve so many aspects of the hobby I want to do, but only so many days in the week 😢

@@TimsRcsurgery i feel your pain, if i want to splash out on a kit, i have to do the overtime. Then find time to build and get cars set up. A lottety win would be ideal 😂

The KF2 was released in 2015, I’ve no idea if it was bought that year but I’m really looking forward to seeing how it handles the track at Modeltune Raceway 😃
